About 7000 residents are without power. As good as NL is being, this is a big deal. They are getting more snow tonight and tomorrow.

some woman drove herself to hospital on a snowmobile because she was in labor?
Seems awful risky vs trying to give birth at home...

Depending on how far it was, I think I'd have probably done it too assuming I just started having contractions and wasn't like on the verge of giving birth. I'm pretty comfortable driving snowmobiles though and was present as a child at a home birth that went bad, so I have that background influencing me.

First responders have taken pregnant women in labor by snowmobile to hospitals here in Iowa.

All the more reason to get my ass to the hospital. I don't want to be home alone giving birth and have something go wrong. I'll take my chances on the sled.

Here, they usually meet the patient and taken them to an ambulance. We don't know what article you are referring to either so your facts may vary.

Interesting tidbit. The woman drove a Skidoo sled the 10-15km to the hospital. Skidoo is made by Bombardier which produced the first snowmobiles. J. Armand Bombardier committed to inventing a machine that could go over the snow after he lost his 2 year old son to peritonitis in a snowstorm and they couldn't get him to the hospital.

The video I really liked but didn't catch the site was the ring door bell camera showing the snow storm blow everything in on the street level or more with the tops of cars.

I get that - my image was of not making it to the hospital - and they both die of exposure. Not - oh - a difficult trip. I would have at least asked someone to go with me. I assume many have snowmobiles up there - and someone could ride along if not. I don't doubt the dangers of a home birth - but I would rather be inside than outside if I didn't make it to the hospital.

The title of this thread should be fixed to “Newfoundland will be having a baby boom”. 😂😂
