Black Americans deeply pessimistic about country under Trump, whom more than 8 in 10 describe as ‘a racist,’ Post-Ipsos poll finds
President Trump made a stark appeal to black Americans during the 2016 election when he asked, “What have you got to lose?” Three years later, black Americans have rendered their verdict on his presidency with a deeply pessimistic assessment of their place in the United States under a leader seen by an overwhelming majority as racist. The findings come from a Washington Post-Ipsos poll of African Americans nationwide, which reveals fears about whether their children will have a fair shot to succeed and a belief that white Americans don’t fully appreciate the discrimination that black people experience. While personally optimistic about their own lives, black Americans today offer a bleaker view about their community as a whole. They also express determination to try to limit Trump to a single term in office. More than 8 in 10 black Americans say they believe Trump is a racist and that he has made racism a bigger problem in the country. Nine in 10 disapprove of his job performance overall. The pessimism goes well beyond assessments of the president. A 65 percent majority of African Americans say it is a “bad time” to be a black person in America. That view is widely shared by clear majorities of black adults across income, generational and political lines. By contrast, 77 percent of black Americans say it is a “good time” to be a white person, with a wide majority saying white people don’t understand the discrimination faced by black Americans Black Americans deeply pessimistic about country under Trump, whom more than 8 in 10 describe as ‘a racist,’ Post-Ipsos poll finds

That Trump deserves little or no credit for it, despite his claims otherwise. Also that the damage being done not only to black people but to the country as a whole under him is not economic in nature. Any more dumb questions?

The unemployment rate has nothing to do with how black Americans feel in their communities and society at large. There is a considerable rise in racism that is negatively affecting Americans that are other than white Christian.

Note that I do not compare the problems women in general face equivalent to the problem people of color face. But, this development has made life even harder for women of color who already were at the bottom of the totem pole w.r.t. how they were treated in American society and today they have to deal with the double whammy of increased racism and misogynism.

this is what Republicans will never get about people of color. they think that if you give them a job, they will have nothing to complain about.
have you been to the city lately? there are thousands of people living on the street for a variety of reasons. the problem has not been this bad in my lifetime, including when UE was 10% under Obama and Reagan. so, yeah, just because we have near full employment, doesn't mean that everything is great.
if your job doesn't pay your rent, what good is it? it is just another form of slavery.

socialwelfare.library.vcu.edu/programs/housing/contemporary-housing-issues/ Saw a Kelly Anne Conway interview on Cuomo the other night and she was touting the great economy by citing that a recent poll had 74% of Americans enjoying it. If it’s so f’ing great what about the 26% that don’t like it?

One of the problems with Trump is he's encouraged the white supremacists and their like to crawl out from under the rocks and parade around with torches.
Makes us all pessimistic about our country.

The unemployment rate has nothing to do with how black Americans feel in their communities and society at large. There is a considerable rise in racism that is negatively affecting Americans that are other than white MALE Christian. You left out a vital word since misogyny has made a roaring come-back as well. Note that I do not compare the problems women in general face equivalent to the problem people of color face. But, this development has made life even harder for women of color who already were at the bottom of the totem pole w.r.t. how they were treated in American society and today they have to deal with the double whammy of increased racism and misogynism. I can’t produce a quote or article, but as an African American woman, it seems to me that black men are at the bottom of the totem pole. They are the most feared and the very last ones that “they” want to prosper. Our black men have to deal with more than even a black woman does. That’s why so many of us women constantly pray for our men and sons to make it back home safely. Their LIVES are often at stake. I feel like if me and a black man were applying for a job and the hiring manager HAD to choose one of us, if that person is a racist, he’d choose me, even if the black man was more qualified. Because he’d perceive me as less of a threat. Just my thoughts and opinions shaped by 48 years on this earth.

What did the poll say about having the lowest unemployment rate in history, if things are so bad?? When the Black unemployment rate was -0- racism was at it’s high water mark. So your point? Maybe you can show a link, where black unemployment was zero.

What did the poll say about having the lowest unemployment rate in history, if things are so bad?? I see u in a face to face conversation with a person of color saying that and that person just looking at u quietly thinking this man hasn't heard one word of the poll he just brought up...Typical of a Donald supporter... Hopefully in 2020 election day , record members of black Americans come out as they did with Obama and cast their vote against the Donald for who ever is his opponent .. Will it solve all of that groups problems? No...but it will have someone in that oval office who will not be a friend of those raciest folks who feel they have a friend now in that office and I know they can look forward to a more friendly happenings of social programs that will be appreciated and helpful for many members of their community... Kinda interesting, just yesterday, I have a new customer, previously a banker, very intelligent, articulate, very impressed with his people handling skills. Turns out he is a staunch conservative, now business man,
It all comes together, In the short time I dealt with him, I like him a lot, My wife and I will invite him his wife and children to dinner at first chance! Oh yea, he is black! we are going to do a lot of business together! And I invited him to check out this board!

Thank you for this Pink. I will admit that I only went by statistical (earnings) data. Your thoughts are like another piece of the intricate mosaic I consider life to be and it will help me see the bigger picture of society somewhat clearer. This is why I like this board -> I learn so many things here that I would normally either not be exposed to, or I would not recognize if it were in front of me.

When the Black unemployment rate was -0- racism was at it’s high water mark. So your point? Maybe you can show a link, where black unemployment was zero. You don’t link all that well yourself do you. And I have seen you completely ignore links from me and others, so no. But if you think about all the clues you should be able to figure it out.

I can't imagine either. What I will say is that in four years, one as a candidate and three as president, Donald Trump has not put together a single sentence as thoughtful as anything in that address. There are many reasons why Obama was presidential while Trump is not. This is only one of them.

"Kinda interesting, just yesterday,"...….just yesterday...sure! "Oh yea, he is black! "...….sure he is.... , Great response.... , ,
