Late tonight, or possibly tomorrow, we'll be hearing a hell of a lot more about this. Brace yourselves! The odds are very high that what we learn will be incredibly disturbing.
I'm old enough to remember the beginning of the US invasion of Grenada and the downing of Iran Air Flight 655. I fear something similar.
I hope that I am wrong. And even if my hunch regarding why this flight apparently exploded in midair is wrong, Canada has just taken a huge hit, probably much higher than the early reports of the nationalities of the passengers indicates.

Iran has said they will not turn over the black boxes to Boeing/U.S. My condolences to Canada and the other countries with nationals on that doomed flight.

I think that the French can analyze the black boxes if asked. It will be interesting to see if Iran asks them to do so.
Regarding the nationalities of the dead. Iran is claiming that 147 of the dead were Iranian citizens, a number that can only be reached if you assume that the vast majority of the persons listed on the flight manifest as Canadian citizens actually held dual citizenship.
The corollary to this is that many of the persons who were listed as Iranian citizens on the flight manifest probably also held dual citizenship. It could be very interesting to see how that number of Iranian citizens on the flight manifest holds up to even mild shaking. From what I understand, almost any holder of dual USA/Iranian citizenship travels to Iran as an Iranian, so there is no doubt in my mind that US citizens were on this flight.

Something is definitely wrong here. Most likely they accidentally shot it out of the sky, and won't admit to any wrongdoing. I feel badly for the families of those who were lost.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — The crew of a Ukrainian jetliner that crashed in Iran, killing all 176 people on board, never made a radio call for help and was trying to turn back for the airport when the burning plane went down, an initial Iranian investigative report said Thursday. Ukraine, meanwhile, said it considered a missile strike as one of several possible theories for the crash, despite Iran’s denials.
The Iranian report suggests that a sudden emergency struck the Boeing 737 operated by Ukrainian International Airlines early on Wednesday morning, when it crashed, just minutes after taking off from Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran.

If the decision to bring down the aircraft was, indeed, made by the Iranian government, rest assured those who died are lauded to have died as martyrs and honored.

We also detained that Huawei official for you and Canadian business people get detained and imprisoned. Don't talk to me about being the world's body guards.

And I mourn every one on that plane It doesn't really matter who did it, it was a result of your (as in all Americans) military action. And if it had been 67 Americans it would at least be making the news in the States.

This is one of those moments when I wish that I knew where I had put my atlas. Something catastrophic happened about two and a half minutes into that flight. If I knew the speed at which missiles flew and had an atlas, I'd have a better idea of who, besides Iran, could have possibly downed this flight. It's quite possible that the answers I would get would be "no one". Damn! I wish that I were more organized.
Knowing the locations of Iranian military airbases would also be handy. If you could rule out the possibility that anyone with an ounce of common sense could have possibly mistaken this commercial airliner for a military plane, the situation would be clearer.

I believe they have invited investigators in just not Boeing which I can’t blame them. Working theory is that their anti-missile system engaged it as an enemy missile... but I’ll wait for confirmation.

All I know is if trump hadn't of assassinated an Iranian General, 176 innocents ( 67 of them Canadian) would not be dead.

If Hillary didn't blow the election through mismanagement of her e-mails/campaign, Trump would have never won... He would have never been in the position to kill that general. She's the one actually responsible...

Shit does happen in the world. Iran Air flight 655, flight of an Iranian airliner that was shot down by the missile cruiser USS Vincennes on July 3, 1988, over the Strait of Hormuz, killing all 290 people on board. The passenger plane, which was in Iranian airspace, had been incorrectly identified as a fighter jet. link This incident might be something to keep in mind as the cause of this latest tragedy becomes clearer. "Glass houses" and all that.

On Cuomo last night, the guy that wrote the book Why Planes Crash, felt it was an engine problem and that hundreds of photos he saw did not indicate a shoot down. But 'Ol Blue Bags fed a conspiracy theory this morning and dog #2 is getting wagged. We'll see what turns out to be the 'truth'.

But 'Ol Blue Bags fed a conspiracy theory this morning and dog #2 is getting wagged. We'll see what turns out to be the 'truth'. Well, it's a Boeing 737. The list of defects is endless. In the past 15 months, more than 600 people have been killed flying variations of Boeing Co.’s 737 family of narrow-body, twin-engine passenger planes. To put that sobering number in perspective, the total number of deaths from flying major passenger airliners of all types worldwide last year was 257. www.thestar.com/business/opinion/2020/01/08/boeings-737-problem-the-plane-that-crashed-in-iran-hails-from-the-same-troubled-family-as-the-grounded-max.html
