Has anyone here recently worked through the PMP certification process? I have dumb questions and would like answers.

No answers, but my eyes deceived me.
I read this as:
I have dumb questions and would like dumb answers.
I don't even know what PMP certification is. Sorry.

I'm working on a PMP right now. I'm guessing it's not the same thing though.

I feel like Firebird was looking into that at some point. She's not online here much, but if you're on facebook with her you could check. (I could be wrong too--it's been a while).

I was readying for PMP certification when I stopped working. All I had left to do was take the exam.

I got my PMP certification about 10 years ago. Unfortunately I didn't keep up with the PDUs that were required and it expired. What kind of info are you looking for?

I got my PMP certification about 10 years ago. Unfortunately I didn't keep up with the PDUs that were required and it expired. What kind of info are you looking for? Do your remember about how long it took for you to apply to when you were approved to take the exam? Right now, I'm taking a formal project management course through school. It's three credits, and I'll be done with the class in May. I'd like to take the exam while everything is still fairly fresh in my mind, but I need to weigh the timing with work, family, and school demands. Sept/October would probably be the most ideal time to take the exam. Given that, I'm not sure, exactly when I should apply. I also don't know how I should be preparing for the exam. I'm not sure my course will be enough. We did have to buy an exam prep book as part of the class, with a ton of practice questions. I also bought the PMBOK guide, to read through during class. The programs I work for also use the Larson text for teaching project management. I'm not sure if it would be useful or not to get a college text too, since there's problems in there that I can do on my own.
Also, there's a PMI chapter in my town. Is that something I really should consider joining if I want to transition into formal project management? I don't know if a mentor would help. I don't know if I should be taking any additional prep courses. Our School of Business Outreach offers some, but they are expensive.
We have a potential new hire at work that is a PMP. I'm leery of asking for that person to help mentor me at this point. One of my coworkers took the PMP exam within the last year, but passed away recently.
So I'm a little stuck right now for guidance. And I would way appreciate anything you can offer.

I am sorry, but I don't remember the timings. I don't think it was too long. However, the format and requirements have changed a lot since I got it. I did not have to prove that I had project management experience, etc. I think now you have to give detailed information about that.
Regarding preparation - I used the PMBOK and an exam prep book. Can you finish with what you already bought and then just borrow any other book from the library and do the exercises?
Can your teacher answer some of your questions regarding timing? He/She might have a good idea about how long it takes, what is the best time to apply, etc.
It might be helpful to join the PMI chapter or atleast go to one of their meetings just to ask these kinds of questions. They might be able to help.
Also look for any online forums where you can ask these questions.
Sorry I wasn't able to help much. Good luck.

So PMP is the next certification I'll get. But I won't be going after it this year and probably second half of 2021. My company has 60 hours worth of prep videos they want you to do before you do the 5 day workshop on it. So, a good 100 hrs of prep time (which is why I am not doing it now).
