how do you get that "eye of the tiger" back?

My competitive streak is gone.  I feel like I'm just coasting.   I have some work related stuff coming up that requires me to light the fire. 

Suggestions?

I'm in the same boat. My therapist says it's because I've completed several major career goals (finished actuarial exams, promoted to VP) and don't have one on the horizon. She kinda made it sound like this may be my new normal.  If so, I'm not sure I like it or can adjust to it. Will be interested in responses.

If you find it let me know. My give a damn for work is just gone. My group is taking it from all sides and no one is protecting us. Some of it is way above our level and from left field (Supreme Court decision) and others are from the support group being less than supportive and responsive to their customers needs.

There were some interesting retirements at year end at the top levels and I think when it all shakes out, we might look completely different. My current plan was to take 2020 to see what happens and finish my fraud examiners certification.

I've got plenty of motivation and ambition outside of work. Going to work it just feels like an endless series of obstacles and why bother?

I also tended to achieve the most and do my best work when someone said "You can't do that." (Can't in the sense of "you are not capable of doing that.")  To which I tended to respond, "Oh, yeah?  Watch this."  (Unless it looked like something of value to no one, really boring, or likely to produce an outcome that would please no one, then I might agree with them and let someone else try it.)

Glad to hear y'all say that I am not the only small, petty person out there. I am seriously considering losing 10 pounds because my friend (whom I love, but brings out the most pettiness in me as anyone ever, because she is younger, prettier, hotter, nicer, more successful, has better stuff, etc, etc) is pregnant. As she is getting bigger, I could be getting smaller. Of course, her boobs are catching up to mine - the one thing I had her on. 😝

To get the eye of the tiger back you need to be around others who have it. We resemble the company we keep. That may mean joining a leadership group like The Executive Committee/Vistage that harnesses the power of peers and the input of thought leaders to fuel your fires.

Get the input of others: go to conferences, read some books, watch videos, listen to pod casts, read articles, and hire a coach. In other words, start training again.

Take a purposeful break of whatever duration you can arrange. Let your heart breathe so you can discover and develop some core desires deep inside you. Then, step into those desires – take a risk.

I was going to suggest a break to get your mojo back.

My hard as f*ck class I took this fall lit a fire under my ass. Even DH commented that he's pretty surprised that the one class did so much for me. I haven't been really excited about anything in a while. Like almost a decade. Taking that class was a huge risk and sacrifice. So worth it though...

What could you do that would get you out of your rut. I'm assuming it has to be something pretty big..not a two week trip abroad..but something that puts you out of your comfort zone?

Maybe challenge yourself to do something smallish that's completely unlike what you normally do once a day for a couple of weeks just to shake things up?

Do you have to do the work related stuff that requires you to light a fire? Can you give that business to someone else? That's also an option, too.

With this new job, is there a possibility that people will read/hear about it? I would love for 
people I hated in school or previous jobs to see how far I've gotten. Try to think of people.who would envy you.
