I am mattress shopping this week. One retailer is offering a free adjustable base with the purchase of a mattress. No box springs, I would use the adjustable base for a foundation.
Does anyone have the adjustable base? Is it worth looking into the upgrade to have the base that raises the feet as well? Would I be better off with a box spring instead? DH and I are not small people, so we tend to replace our mattress every 5 or 6 years or so.
Help me decide what to buy!

We have a King size Sleep Number with split mattress and dual adjustable head/feet base. The fact our desired firmness is 30 numbers apart is why we got the mattress. We decided to spent the money for the base because the bed is supposed to last long enough for it to be the last one we will need to buy. The head, really glad we got it. We do have a television that is mainly used by my wife to escape football showing on our living room screen. She always has the bed adjusted when she does. We do community theater and, to allow for one to watch television, we use the bedroom to work on lines (we have a small house). That is another time the base is adjusted. I do adjust the feet at times but not sure I would have wished I had that option if I had never had it. Still with the total money spent, don't remember it really added that much.

We have an adjustable base. We purchased it in Nov/Dec 2016 after DH fell off of a ladder while working on ceiling tiles onto a concrete slab floor. If it’s within your purchasing power, it’s fantastic. We have the setting we prefer on a normal basis with the head slightly up and the feet slightly up. However, that’s just a luxury. When one of us has a chest cold, having the bed raised at the head is so much better than being propped up with pillows. When I ended up with a bulging disc in my lower back, being able to adjust the foot end of the bed is great. I had surgeries on my should and rib cage this year. It was lovely to be able to raise the head of the bed all the way up so I could get out of bed without having to exert myself as much the week following each surgery.
Our entire set—mattress and base was about $5K. We could buy that without going into debt and, in my frugal mind, my husband needed it due to his injuries.

We have one. I hate sleeping flat... but... it doesn’t bend at the right place for my hips/torso... so it’s in someone else’s room now. I’d try it out thoroughly before buying. Although for free or not much it’s nice having a bed in the house that will work if someone were to be ill. I think our set was 3-4K... it does head/feet and something else... ‘massage’ maybe...?

I have one. However, I couldn't sleep in it when I had gall bladder surgery because the bed sets up so high I couldn't get in the bed. The first night I managed to get in the bed, I couldn't get out of the bed.
The home health care nurse had me sleep on the couch because I could use the back of the chair to pull myself up.
I find mind doesn't bend where my body does and have a difficult time getting it to where I am comfortable.

I got one for ISO last month. It is great for reading and watching tv in bed. The frame is better than a box spring as far as I'm concerned. It needs to be totally flat for him to get in and out. But i'm curious about why it would be free with mattress. How expensive is your mattress?

We have it with a split king and love it! DH has sleep apnea and raises the head on his side to help with snoring and he wears a CPAP too. I like that the head or foot can be raised as needed. We got ours from The Original Mattress Company. This was my 3rd purchase from this company and I will never buy from anyone else. The last mattress lasted 10+ years. We only bought new as the old bed was a queen.

The store (national firm) is offering a free adjustable base with the purchase of a mattress priced over $699. The upgrade to an adjustable base that raises the feet as well was a $700 upgrade. Our mattress was priced at $999. We went and tried both bases out today. The leg option really took the pressure off my lower back as well as being able to elevate DH's broken leg.
We splurged on the more expensive base. I like to buy new mattresses every 5 or 6 years, so I usually buy at the $1000 to $1200 price point.
It gets delivered in a week, so we will see if it is worth the $$$.

The $700 adjustable base was not split. The whole mattress moves. I am sure the split base would be more. My DH didn't like the idea of the void (known as the hot dog bun effect in our house) in the middle of the split mattresses of a king. The bases I looked at came with a remote. I was shopping at Mattress Firm in the Phoenix area.

We have 2 tempurpedic XL twin adjustable beds. You can push them together and they really are ok if you lay on the seam. But we like these best because we can have it the way we want on each side. I love it, lots of nights in there with head and feet cranked up and the massage on, ours must be 10 years old. DD's quit working, she didn't really like it anyway, needs a new remote and we could never get one. So that is a concern. I'm thinking if ours goes may have to buy a new unit under the bed, but don't know, we didn't really pursue it. I love mine, hubs not so much, but he uses the adjustable part. They are not hot like people claim, but I bought the tempurpedic waterproof mattress covers that have material on them like terry cloth.
I don't think we can ever afford the mattresses again they have gotten so high now, but ours seem to have a lot of life left. I'm thinking we may have to get a new mattress for DD this year though.
