Yesterday was Christmas Day. And our gift from daughter and brother was being together with our spouses to share a breakfast meal. Daughter and DH, brother and DW, my DH and I shared scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, turkey sausage (blah), toast. And a couple of hours of conversation before everyone left for visits with other family members. I like Christmas breakfast together ............ and I love our family ........
How was your day however you celebrated?

The big get together was Christmas Eve with many of the family for dinner and gift exchange. Christmas day was my wife, her mother and me eating left overs. Kind of lonely.

My day was great. I had my parents over for brunch, unplanned but it was good. I was making waffles but they kept coming out done on the outside and not quite done inside. I have used both waffle makers before with good results. So we had pancakes. And grits, eggs and bacon. Then dinner was about 5 hours later. Parents again. (They went home to rest between meals.) Then my aunt, uncle, cousin and cousin's friend came over for dessert and were there until almost midnight. It was good and a lot of fun. My cousin lives in England and will be leaving Saturday so there may be one more long night ahead of me. I haven't seen her in 4 years, so I'll deal with it.

Christmas morning with just our younger children. Christmas dinner with DD#1's fiance, a friend of DD#2's who has stayed at our home to the point of having her own drawers and shelves, and the four of us.

Went out to dinner with friends. Few restaurants open Christmas day or evening. The more expensive restaurants were open. We had a 6 p.m. reservation.
Before our server took our orders she told us which dishes the restaurant was now out of. We placed our orders. Over the next 20 minutes, the server or restaurant manager/owner came to our table severaltimes to tell us various entrees we ordered were no longer available. So probably 80% of us had to reorder.
For our inconvenience, free champagne was supplied to us.
Meals served. Friend to the right of me's steak arrived. Cost of steak: $43. Looked like any ol' steak which could be found at the food store. I ended up with fried chicken. While tasty, it seemed like it was mostly breading. Sides of Brussel sprouts and spinach were quite delicious.
Once everyone was done eating, the restaurant manager/owner came to out table and told us for our troubles we would get 50% off the cost of our meals. Manager told us they had never experienced the high restaurant traffic like they did on December 24 and 25.
Lesson learned by restaurant for Christmas 2020.

I had Christmas dinner with my dog buddy's family. I don't have any immediate family, and they have sort of adopted me (I think the dog insisted--we've bonded). They are a very nice family, and I am very fortunate.

It has been family tradition the last 30 years to get together every other year due to my brothers living a ways away from home. Four years ago we went to Marco Island (SW Florida) and rented a house for a week. All flew into Ft. Myers on Christmas day but stayed in a hotel there since the house wasn't available until the next day. Well, needed to find a place to eat on Christmas Day.... but hardly anything open except for ............ wait for it....... a Chinese restaurant. We had our own little "A Christmas Story" Christmas dinner.

May be a better experience another time of year when they don't run out of half of their menu items. Still wouldn't order a steak there though-I've cooked better looking and tastier steaks at half the price here at home.

Once visiting the folks for Christmas around 1999 or 2000, the folks and I went to a Chinese restaurant for Christmas night dinner. Left over Chinese food for dinner the following night. Not sure if I read it or heard it on the TV news but it was said the number of Chinese restaurants in the U.S. are declining as the older Chinese immigrants are dying out and their American born children and their children sought different career paths. Makes sense: assimilation.

It was $65 of meat for the 4 of us, so $43 for a prime cut steak at a good restaurant isn't crazy.

My neighbor told me that the Chinese place up the street says they take orders all day but they learned to call right when they open, because they get so busy, they don't even bother answering the phone.
