I agree there...during a very small gathering, veterans..to celebrate 75th anniversary of D day...not to long from now these "guys and gals" won't be around anymore.. Our VFW hall did a steak cook out Saturday. I am sure there are other such small gatherings around the country...so wanted to post this one in honor of those too.. Thanks guys and gals...u did good and really appreciated. ------------------------------------------------------------- " Carrying a tray of meals, Officer Richard Boyle said, “This is the least we can do for these guys.” ============================== www.courant.com/community/manchester/hc-news-manchester-veterans-lunch-20191205-3y75ldnn3fflhmun44lcdy3qcy-story.html

I can't help but wonder how increasingly difficult such celebrations have become for the guys (it's almost all guys) being celebrated. As time goes on, we're increasingly thanking them, the vets, and forgetting about the guys than they probably think deserved the thanks quite a bit more than themselves. .
As time passes, it has become increasingly difficult for these vets to pay tribute to those who died in the war by decorating their graves or getting other vets buried with ceremony. I have to wonder what is going through their minds during such commemorations Acknowledging their service and the war might be nice, but they also are getting a pretty good eyeful of how well-remembered they'll be.

"(it's almost all guys)" Up to a few years ago, our VFW post had two gals as regular members...One was a Army nurse...captured on Bataan and a POW for the duration...the other, not a member of armed forces, but one of the civilian woman flyers who ferried Air Force planes around the country and even to Britain...both passed now but great Gals...lots of fun..not shrinking violets.
