The Senate will decide if to remove him or not. They will also control the proceedings. They will also adjust the rules of the proceedings as they see fit. Including who will be allowed to testify. Is McConnell a senator and a member of the senate? And are the senators the jury who will decide if trump is innocent or guilty?

Rep. Val Demings (D-Fla.) on Friday called on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to recuse himself from the Senate impeachment trial, citing the GOP leader's remarks the previous night about coordinating with the White House. McConnell said during an interview on Fox News on Thursday night that “everything I do during this, I’m coordinating with the White House counsel. There will be no difference between the president’s position and our position as to how to handle this to the extent that we can.” Demings accused the GOP leader of promising to "sabotage" the trial. "No court in the country would allow a member of the jury to also serve as the accused’s defense attorney. The moment Senator McConnell takes the oath of impartiality required by the Constitution, he will be in violation of that oath," she said in a statement. Demings, who sits on the House Intelligence and Judiciary panels that have led the impeachment inquiry, pointed to Article 1, Section 3 of the Constitution. The section states: “The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. I remember how the Democrat Claire McCaskill lost her Senate seat because of the Supreme court vote 2 years ago. Her polls flipped right after the vote. Democrats need to think ahead of time on that also, with this impeachment vote. A number of seats can go either way in the house this next election. McConnell has already said it wont be a fair trial. An acquittal doesn’t un-impeach.

The oath before the trial begins? No not yet. But when he does he will have already violated that oath as he acted as the president's defense team right up to the time of the oath. In any other trial, a potential juror would be excused from jury duty for working for the defense team. McConnell cannot be a senate jury member and a member of the defense team at the same time.

As with every other effort by the Democratic Party to undo the election, they will lose at this one too.
Going back on everything else that was tried, the track record hasn't been too good, all losses.
Not saying much for those self proclaimed wizards of smart, losing every political battle to those deplorables, clinging to their guns and religion.
I've seen all the posts, about all these investigations, sticking in the craw of Republicans, so to speak.
That sticking in the craw has had to come from somewhere.

when the GOP impeached Clinton for arguably personal and political reasons, what happened in 2000?
1) they won the WH 2) they lost several seats in the Senate, but maintained the House.
it is unclear to me WHY the GOP now thinks that the "conventional wisdom" is that impeachment is bad.
it seems to have worked well for them in 2000, when the hated Bill Clinton was in the WH. why would it not work well for Democrats in 2020, when the hated Donald Trump is in the WH?

Here we go with the witness kerfuffle. How many times have I seen posters here. Repo-Con Congress critters during the hearings, and FAUX News hosts make the completely fabricated claim that Demos blocked witnesses. That’s a pile of bovinity as they all well know.
We won’t be seeing any more R/C posters making that claim again now that it’s all out in the open prior to the Senate hearing. Nice to see them all obstructing the whole truth.
