On coastal Connecticut, there is a seasonal restaurant called the Nordic Lodge. It is a seafood, all-you-can-eat buffet, including fresh lobster. Myself and a few co-workers went there for dinner one time in the mid-80s. We went for the lobster. We focused only on the claws and the tail. Countless lobsters were devoured. Individual price for adults back then was $27. Well worth it. Every now and then, I check their webpage to see what the current price for adults is today. Last time I checked (a couple years ago) the going rate for adults was $97. Not a place one would dine on a regular basis, but a treat every couple of years. I know there is a Nordic Lodge in RI, theres a 2nd location? I keep seeing it on Phantom Gourmet, it looks good. but no way I am paying $97 to eat there! Connecticut also has the Lobster Pot and in addition to while lobsters, they have a lobster casserole topped with buttered crackers that is delicious. My brother took us there a few years back and it was wonderful!

It's just the 2 of us so I'm roasting turkey thighs (our favorite part) with a maple syrup/Dijon mustard glaze and doing Brussels Sprouts on the stovetop with bacon and balsamic vinegar. We picked up our desserts today at our neighborhood bakery - a slice of mango tres leches and a slice of cajeta tres leches. Got breakfast too, sweet potato empanadas to go with our Guatemalan hot chocolate. If we get the munches sometime, I have leftover cheese and prosciutto from the other day.

I made reservations a few weeks ago. Invited MIL and neighbor to come with us.
TD cleared up the leaves from a neighbor’s drive way. In reality, he got a new leaf blower and blew out everyone’s driveway! Anyway, they thanked him with a totally unnecessary pumpkin cheesecake that they brought over last night.

We did our Thanksgiving last night. Turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, celery-onion salad, and a failed instantpot brussels sprouts dish that turned into mush.
I also made two pumpkin pies and am thinking tonight I might make a bourbon apple struessel pie or a pecan pie with date syrup. DS has also requested that I turn his pumpkin into a pie so I might make a praline pumpkin with that.

Cracker Barrel pre-cooked dinner. I picked it up this morning. When I got home the box got unpacked and if it can be judged by looks, it's going to be great. The instructions say it'll take about two hours to heat up. Nope. Looks like an hour or a bit longer. Add to that the time to get it to the table and eat it and our 1pm dinner will probably be over before 1:30.
I won't be spending the morning standing in front of the kitchen sink peeling 10 lbs of potatoes for the first time in more than 50 years. Not hard to deal with it at all.
The house will smell like Thanksgiving, dinner will be delicious, hardly any cleanup, and leftovers on Friday. I'm in!

It's not our Thanksgiving, but I'm having a dinner party. Smoked salmon with cream cheese, cucumber and dill (I found some!) on bagel rounds. Spicy Brazilian Chicken in coconut milk. Jasmine rice with saffron. Green beans with garlic, butter, Parmesan Cheese and lemon zest. Spanish coffee for dessert.

I just now made myself a Spanish coffee......you know, to see if it's good enough to serve to my guests. The sugar may have gone bad...... or the rum.

Ours is pretty traditional with turkey and sides. I just finished cutting up all the fruit for a beautiful fruit salad. DD and SIL bring an appetizer. I made brownies and pumpkin bread, bought a pumpkin pie, and a guest is bringing an apple pie. Love this meal and especially all the leftovers! Happy Thanksgiving.

My kitchen has been super clean for a few days, specifically deep cleaning for the holidays. Now that it's time, I do hate to start and mess it all up! LOL! now the kitchen is a complete disaster, hardly a clean plate or fork to be found. Just set dishwasher with first batch, hopefully - the 2nd batch will do it....but ---- not sure! may need a 3rd. Cooking tomorrow should be minimal. Enjoying some wine.

Holy shit, I think you are my husband. Tell them to get the king crab legs, you get big chunks of crab. That's what they get, it still feels like unnecessarily small amounts. It's probably because I just destroy the crab legs getting the meat out. Gotcha. It’s operator error. You need remedial crab retrieval lessons. Once you get good at it, you can get big pieces out. Use a fork to split the leg lengthwise

Deviled eggs! I love those. Can I make them with Grey Poupon? I don't want to go buy yellow mustard.

Going to DD and DSILs home for a traditional turkey dinner. All the grand kids and great-grand kids will be there, and a long time school friend of DDs. Haven't seen her since she was about 20 ............ 35+ years ago.
We are taking pies and dressing ...... along with cranberry sauce.... compliments of Costco
Looking forward to seeing everyone and playing with the babies.
Weather is overcast and gray and will probably be raining on our way home.

I'm getting tired of throwing out food and he does not need to gain anymore weight so keeping it small.

I had to make the french fried onions as the store was out and made my own cream of mushroom sauce for vegan - is that what you encompass from scratch? I really do not enjoy doing the french fried onions. I've done it a few times, and they are good - but I prefer not to see the amount of oil! and what a mess!

We are going with the neighbors for pot luck. This is such a fun place to live. Pot lucks frequently. Drinks on the patio nearly every night. I'm taking cowboy caviar. I cannot understand where that name came from.

Just so y'all know--the pre-cooked dinner from Cracker Barrel not only passed muster, but it's going to become Thanksgiving dinner forevermore.
The only thing I tweaked was the cranberries because I've always made brandied cranberries (cranberries for people who hate them). I had no idea what we'd end up with, but put them in a 6x8 glass baking dish and gave 'em a coupla glugs of brandy, sealed the dish with foil, baked at 350 for an hour and a half. I thought they were as good as mine. Everybody else (all former cranberry haters) said they were okay but not as good as mine. Huh?
The gravy was good but the crew complained that it wasn't the same color as mine. I told them that the "proof of the pudding is in the eating." Not the same color? What's that got to do with anything if it tastes good?
They weren't a bit shy about packing it in, and we have just enough left for supper tomorrow.
One more thing. A pecan pie and a pumpkin pie were included with the dinner. Both very good and didn't have the inch-thick crusts that commercial pies usually have.

We do the full spread bc I like to cook and DS loves to. Turkey, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, bread, corn muffins, green bean casserole. Everything but the corn muffins (mix) and gbc (standard canned everything) was from scratch-we even roasted the pumpkin for pie this year. And DS tried everything but the green bean casserole. Biggest regret is that I couldn’t talk DS down from the 19 lb turkey-it’s just the three of us and I’m a vegetarian I foresee a banner week ahead for the pupper.
