tskeeter, Ironwood is expecting another 16-20" over the weekend. It's been five or six years since they had 200" of sNOw in a season, but the norm used to be around 250-300". Not kidding. Schools only closed when I was a kid if the temp was -30. And WTH were you doing in Ironwood? Did you actually go there on purpose?

they get plenty of winter just north of Syracuse. Lake effect snow from October to May. I thought so, too, but she'd rather be getting Lake Superior lake effect sNOw. There's a difference? Sounds like a horse apiece to me. I suspect that it’s not the snow as much as it’s the cold. During the time I lived in Buffalo, the coldest it got was -5. By MN, Northern WI, and UP standards, that’s semi tropical. I had to get a lighter winter jacket when I moved to Buffalo because my MN jackets were too warm.

The area we ski at got nearly 800 inches of snow last year. The good thing is we usually keep our snow in the mountains instead of in the driveway.

thyme4change , imagine my surprise when we moved to the Southeast from the desert. I had to buy...wait for it...an umbrella! It was months before I was comfortable driving in the rain. Out West when there was a (rare) downpour, people just pulled over to the side of the road and waited it out. It's going to be 70ish here today, sunny this afternoon. Meanwhile, my brother is ticked because it's a blizzard day in the UP, and nephew is insistent that he go along to help him choose and buy a new 4x4 truck today. That's what we do around here when it snows - just stay home until it melts. Usually it won't take longer than a day or two.
My co-workers located in New Jersey and Boston think we're insane - but we don't have all the snow moving equipment they have. In my little town, we literally have some dude with a blade chained to the front of his pick up truck, and a guy in the back flinging handfuls of ice down onto the road. Plus we're a mountainous county, so no road clearing +mountains = a good reason to stay home and wait for it to melt.
Granted, it's been a couple years since we had more than a dusting of snow....
