I’m driving to North Carolina. Absolutely dreading it. The upside is the Biltmore and Downton Abbey exhibit

I'm not weeping at all. I'd already begged out of doing the five or six hour drive directly north during a very tight (36-hour) break from work. Your news just cements the impossibility of doing so. Maybe my absence will be forgiven after all.

I already saw that, and its horrible up there from Watertown down I 81 and over I 90 to Erie. Lake effect snow all in through there.
I understand if they can't make it.

Phew, I'm flying home from Tulsa Tuesday morning with a layover in Charlotte, so I should be golden.

The weather report is why I have always disliked driving and/or flying over the Thanksgiving - New Years holidays.

Honestly, I love my kids but if they don't come won't upset me. I just don't feel like hosting that many people and having to cook, do laundry, etc. I'm not sure I can for 4 days, that is sad.

Our weather should be OK and we’re just going to SIL’s, only 1/2 hour away.

Why don’t you have it catered? Or make reservations? Holidays should be about being together, not putting a lot of stress on you. I cook every holiday but once I’m no longer up to it, I will be having it catered

Hubs said cook steaks and baked potatoes, yeah for Thanksgiving.
There is no one around here to cater that day. And in the nearest town noplace will be open. Remember this is rural southern Indiana. Hopefully I will feel better by next weekend.
Hubs wouldn't go out anyway, he says on holidays people should not have to work even in restaurants!!!

Last Thanksgiving, I invited 8 for dinner and made prime rib. Only thing I made that was Thanksgivingish was we had either pumpkin or cherry pie for dessert.

We are not traveling this year. My MIL is coming down and we are going out for dinner.
My sister invited us to MN for Thanksgiving. Other than the fact that I don’t want to kennel the animals so close to the time that they are going to get kenneled next month, I really don’t want to deal with the airports so close to the holiday. We leave on 12/18 for Chile, this is far enough away from Christmas that it shouldn’t be too horrible.

I was mainly doing it for son, he doesn't get traditional home cooking except when I go up. He always requests certain things. I know he misses them, so was just trying to do that.
Was going to have turkey with dressing, noodles, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, gravy, maybe baked beans, and corn. We always have a salad also. The beans, corn, and mac and cheese, salad I can make the day before and just reheat. Can make the noodles too and cook them the next day as I do the turkey, dressing prepped night before, mashed potatoes and gravy. If I organize it well shouldn't be to bad. I feel some better today. Then there will be enough to eat on while they are here for 2 or 3 days. Would love to bake bread, but can do the frozen kind and let it rise, that's easy. The day before I can make some pies, I have already pie crust, filling I've canned so easy and quick. Am thinking of buying a fresh turkey then won't have to deal with defrosting it. Just have to see. Hubs really likes the traditional meal too, even thought he says it doesn't matter, I guess all of us do actually.

I'm traveling from the bedroom to the bathroom to the kitchen then the living room. It will be arduous but I can do it! 😁

I’m driving to North Carolina. Absolutely dreading it. The upside is the Biltmore and Downton Abbey exhibit I don't know if you've been to the Biltmore in a while, but now you have to purchase tickets on line, in advance. No more purchasing them at the gate. The upside, though, is I think they schedule you in at specific times, so maybe you won't get stuck in a giant crowd all trying to enter at the same time.
And previously, you could purchase a ticket for a special event - like $25 bucks for a wine and chocolate tasting at the old cow barns, current winery. Now, you have to purchase the $75 general house admonition in addition to the special event charge, even if you don't want to visit the house.
But the house will be beautiful - they should have it decorated for Christmas by now.
Also, if you or your family likes beer, Asheville is the #2 city with the highest per capita number of microbreweries in the country....

My in-laws are visiting family in Santiago soon and dh is worried about the curfew and everything happening right now.

I couldn't go to Santiago earlier this year due to work and I am kicking myself that I missed out.

ODS has decided to stay in Maryland for Thanksgiving (there’s a new girlfriend in his life who lives a half hour from their college).
I will miss him but it’s just as well since Thanksgiving is so late and finals start the following week.
YDS will come home. It’s only a 4-5 hour ride for him.

We have annual passes but still it costs more to see the exhibit Beautiful around Christmas - but my favorite is spring when the azaleas are blooming. They have azaleas as big as VW bugs.
