They might end up like this fine example from Berkeley Quote; Kernion began the thread by advocating against affordable healthcare solutions in rural America, saying that “Rural Healthcare Should be expensive! And that expense should be borne by those who choose rural America!”
He argued that promoting a need for “affordable rural healthcare” is equivalent to arguing for rural Americans “to be subsidized by those who choose a more efficient way of life.”
“Same goes for rural broadband. And gas taxes,” Kernion added.
“It should be uncomfortable to live in rural America. It should be uncomfortable to not move,” he wrote.
Kernion tried to justify his statements with economic arguments about not making rural life “*artificially* cheaper,” but quickly devolved into personal attacks against rural and not “pro-city” Americans.pjmedia.com/trending/rural-americans-are-bad-people-who-deserve-to-be-shamed-says-berkeley-instructor/?fbclid=IwAR0ntPxtl5iJPtgecLoK12Pake_KDX3HnCYlIOLyN_RG7y1kNRBs-drKbxM I really liked the thought process behind 'more efficient way of life'. I wonder if his extreme intelligence ever considered where his food comes from, lol. How is this dramatically different from 'if you don't like your healthcare options in rural america you should just move elsewhere'? This was an opinion that I highly disagree with, but was being supported by some posters here last week.

Accepting an incorrect answer in a science (or any other) class is a disservice to the student. From the teaching and learning perspective:
There are two types of questions--six if you want to get thoroughly into it.
Lower level questions and higher level questions. (If you want to go further, look at Bloom's taxonomy or Depth of Knowledge theory.)
Lower level questions really do have one specific answer.
However, higher level questions can have more than one answer. The answer must then be defensible and the student's reasoning sound. This approach can, does, and should happen in science class. However, with the legislature allowing for any answer to be defensible using religious preferences, that's where a critical thinking standard is not going to be met. And I say that as a Christian. A teacher can give an open-ended question on an assignment, allow more than one answer, and look at the student-presented critical thinking to determine if an answer is justifiable. In a non-science class, a religious argument could absolutely be valid. However, in a science-based class, assessing one's knowledge (not one's belief system) of the science at hand would not be valid if the argument is solely based on religious preferences.

I have a Bachelor's in English and Writing, a Master's of Arts in Teaching, am a literacy specialist, and have two post-grad certificates for school administration. I am a trainer of 6+1 writing traits (Ruth Culham base), Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (aka SIOP which is how to work with low level literacy students and English Language Learners), and in data analysis school leadership. I have also spent a considerable amount of time working with "traditional" grading and "proficiency" grading and "standards" grading philosophies and implementation in grades K-12. My teaching license is in upper elementary self-contained and middle level language arts. I've been a classroom teacher for eight years, an instructional coach for three years, and a building administrator for four years.

I honestly might resign from teaching if I were a science teacher in Ohio. Or move to another state. There’s no way for this go well at the actual school level. Always lovely when non-educators mandate something that contradicts education. But they spent years in school. Most have/had kids, even grandkids, in school. They be experts.

Please post your background as well... Via PM. Why since you demand public disclosure from others so "you can know who you are talking to"?

The USA: Going backwards every day. Aren’t you glad that you don’t have to live with the rules our idiot politicians come up with? Then again, Canada has had some real gems for politicians, too. Rob Ford, for one. And there’s the Lavalin Affair. And the Canadian Senate housing and travel expenses scandal. Seems that a lack of ethics and plain stupidity runs rampant among politicians on both sides of the border.

Why since you demand public disclosure from others so "you can know who you are talking to"? You might want to reread the last three lines of my post containing the "Demand". billisonboard steffQuote; Just a question of you, if you don't mind, as I don't know you very well.
