So if she's resigning, shouldn't Occupant resign, too?

If only republicans were so ethical to resign when caught in the same situation.

Paying hush money right before the election to keep a porn actress quiet about their affair while his wife was giving birth to his child. As it is, trump will probably be impeached and will be no better than Bill Clinton in that regard. Hillary will laugh and laugh at trump.

Since when are campaign finance violations, such as hush money to a porn queen, legal?

I wonder how many men have done this and it was dismissed as "boys will be boys?"

Geeees, it is amazing that it is OK because some one else did something before! I didn't actually say it was OK. what I said was that consensual affairs are nobody's business other than the people involved.
and yes, I have been very consistent on that subject for at least 40 years.

This is more a story of domestic abuse than anything else and it pisses me the fuck off that anyone even suggested she resign.

the American fascination with sex scandals might lead one to conclude that our lives are small and shallow. I have commented before on the American fascination (and often condemnation) of anything related to CONSENSUAL sex and it completely baffles me. I have always thought it to be a holdover from being a British colony, since the Brits have a similar hangup. That or you can't let go of "your religion" in public life and just have to demand that everyone lives by your book.
Non-consensual sexual acts on the other hand are a completely different animal IMO and we should not allow them to be glossed over over with excuses like "locker room talk" or "boys will be boys"

In Hill's case there is more than just consensual sex here. Also a report money was funneled to one of her sex partners. In her case it was not "boys will be boys" only. There was "girls will be girls" and specifically in her case "girl will do just about anything she puts her mind to".

If that's the case, why are Canadians so much more open-minded about sex? We were also a British colony.

Oh the British are much more open than us about sex. We are a Puritan holdover. Etc. Reaffirming at different times.

I agree that consensual affairs are OK, but Clinton Perjured Himself, so I thought he should have been removed from office.
Trump has committed any number of things that he deserves to be impeached for.
BTW, count me as someone who thinks that Hush agreements should not be enforceable in a court of law, and they should be thrown out. Rich people like Weinstein, Epstein, Lauer and big businesses like NBC and Miramax etc should not be able to hide their guilt behind legal agreements made with poorly represented victims with no clout.

Clinton was also guilty of fraternizing with a subordinate, which is a separate breach of ethics.
I was speaking more generally.

Why So Many People Think Katie Hill Shouldn’t Have ResignedWhen Rep. Duncan Hunter was elected to office in 2008, he took an oath — the same oath as congresswoman Katie Hill, who announced her resignation on Sunday. Both California representatives were the subject of scandal this past year, and both faced ethics investigations over alleged relationships with congressional aides. But there are some inescapable differences between Hunter and Hill: Hunter faces charges on 60 counts for allegedly spending $250,000 of congressional funds. According to prosecutors, the money went toward things like flying his family’s pet rabbit across the country and five extramarital affairs, including with members of his own staff. Meanwhile, Hill just spent several days in the media spotlight for an alleged relationship with a campaign aide before taking office. Hunter went relatively unscathed as news of his affairs were released, even vowing that a scandal like this won’t get him unseated. He didn’t apologize after his wife pleaded guilty to most of the charges, either. Hill on the other hand was the subject of a media onslaught after RedState and The Daily Mail released nude and intimate photos of her. She apologized for the relationship, which she said was consensual and occurred before she took office. But an ethics probe against her, which began almost immediately and has yet to prove any other allegations against her, prompted a right-wing outcry for her resignation. The two scandals are entirely different for many reasons — and while Hunter faces a drawn out and once again pushed-back trial date in 2020, Hill’s ethics probe barely even took off before her resignation on Sunday. Hunter used congressional funds for personal gain and engaged in multiple alleged affairs within the House, while Hill’s relationship, albeit with a subordinate who worked on her campaign, occurred before she entered office and was perpetuated by the release of nude images, without her consent, by an allegedly abusive ex-husband. The news of her resignation and the case against her is now spurring a larger and more powerful question: Is Katie Hill’s resignation the result of a major political double standard? Complete article here: Why So Many People Think Katie Hill Shouldn’t Have Resigned

The GOP party hitched their wagon to the evangelicals years ago, so they have to go through the motions of supporting monogamy, pro-life, anti-gay marriage, etc.
It's a political platform but not something all of them embrace in actual practice. Somehow, their party can ignore the serial marriages (Gingrich and Trump), the out of wedlock sex, and even those who have (or get their partners to have) abortions, as long as they stick to their pro-marriage, anti abortion platform.
The Dems, since they don't court the evangelicals, haven't had to pretend as much, but still have to put up a good front so their GOP candidates can't use any non-Christian behavior against them.
It's a farce on the part of both parties, and I've never understood why the evangelicals haven't realized they're being played. I guess they can tolerate a politician who does not behave in a Christian manner as long as he pushes for the anti-gay and anti-abortion bills they want. Seems like a bargain with the devil, IMHO. Reminds me of Elmer Gantry.

If that's the case, why are Canadians so much more open-minded about sex? We were also a British colony. After the revolution French settlers in the 13 colonies moved north to Canada, thus giving Canada a more sexual freedom resource.
