What baffles me is that the White House releases this letter to show how tough trump is on Turkey.
Do they not see that this letter is a half literate word salad that only proves that trump is just a moron?

I literally cringed when I read that. The man has no one in his immediate circle who can head off these diplomatic shit pies anymore. It will take us decades to reclaim our international standing once the Oval Office is finally exterminated of the Trump admin.

Hey, he tells it like it is. We don't need a president who puts on airs by writing intelligently and eloquently. This is how I would talk to a world leader* so why shouldn't my president talk the same way? They don't deserve no fancy talk from me. I cannot wait for when he announces Erdogan is fired!

Exactly, this appeals to the very solid “rube” portion of his base. It is always funny reading the facebook comments to something related to Trump, it is very easy to see why he does what he does to appeal to his supporters.

A lot of Trump supporters aren't rubes, which is the scary thing. It's Trump speaks to deep seated tribalism, especially for those segments of the population that fear the amount of change society has gone thru in recent years. Writing letters like that to a world leader helps further reinforce that "they" are not deserving of diplomacy but "we" darn well better be treated with respect by them.
Since he represents protection from the scary unknown and protect us from "them" taking over the world people will bend over backwards to justify anything Trump says and does because to disagree would be to part with the tribe and that is something we are biologically programmed to rebel against.
That being said we are also rational beings that can learn so we should have been able to rise above all this. This is why it's so important to vote in the next election.

Don’t know what y’all talkin about, that was a very beautiful letter. Sorry friend but that is NOT how heads of State communicate with each other...possible lower ranking folks but not the top guys and Gals...no where to go after such a letter... Heads of State, especially of large strong States such as Turkey have to answer to their own constituents and political important people...even those of smaller nations have to answer to someone... It shows the Donald hasn't a clue...definitely the job is to much for him...This governing by his gut feelings...not listening to government experts who have spent their adult lives becoming experts in their field is just plain stupid.. Not saying one has to go along with experts analysis but not to even hear or consider it is not doing the country any service.

Dezii, that was a joke because it was what Trump said about Kim Jong Un’s letter earlier this year.

I've come to the realization in the past few years that the general population of the Unites States is a good deal stupider than I used to believe. We are truly living in Idiocracy, and yes the base will feel this demonstrates 'tough'. It's horrifying.

It is also why he does things like release the photo of Pelosi from yesterday, misinterpreting how large swaths of the public will receive it... he talks only to his base. And we are in dire threat of his base obliterating the republic with their ignorance and prejudice.

I've come to the realization in the past few years that the general population of the Unites States is a good deal stupider than I used to believe. We are truly living in Idiocracy, and yes the base will feel this demonstrates 'tough'. It's horrifying. I personally disagree. Studies and statistics show over and over that we are actually getting smarter and more progressive as time goes on. But we DID get complacent and started to take for granted what we have. That's what lead so many people to stay home instead of voting because surely Trump couldn't win. That allowed his base to organize and sail him into office. We need to own that. Hard fought for rights can be taken away with the stroke of pen, we cannot rest on our laurels. If we can get off our butts I do believe he will lose. His approval rating is 34% which means there is another 66% that disapprove. That 66% needs to organize. I think that's why people spend so much time bashing younger advocates. They are reaching voting age and the younger generation SIGNIFICANTLY outnumbers the older generations that tend to vote for Trump. If they can't be stopped thru ridicule and dismissal they have the power to change the world. Beyond that people die. Trump will eventually die, Mitch McConnell will eventually die and a lot of Trump's base will eventually die. The world will continue to march ahead one funeral at a time. Considering Mitch and Trump are in their mid 70's whereas I am only 36 I think my odds are pretty good that I can wait them out. This is all a natural response to massive change, the rubber band eventually snaps back, BUT it is never quite as taunt as it was before it was stretched to it's limit. I recommend you read Enlightenment Now, it's really informative and not hostage to the doom and gloom the media perpetuates because it sells. Caused me quite an exsitensal crisis when I read it.

National statistics mean nothing with an electoral college. I live in Pennsyltucky. Most people here love his 'toughness'... they couldn't find Turkey on a map. They get all of their news from FOX. Trump plans to cheat. He plans to spend 100X as much money to be louder and brasher and tell more lies than ever before... and he gets away with them daily. He's a moron. But not everyone around him is... You think republicans would conceded the ground the have if they thought the other side was likely to win in just a few short years?
They will die. But that doesn't mean the republic doesn't fall in the meantime. And getting it back... hmm.
I'm not sure you are watching very carefully... but a lot of the world isn't marching 'forward' lately. And i'm not sure you know much history, but the past shows that we often slip back, sometimes quite a ways back, on the pathway forward.
I don't watch media. I watch people.

Do you think foreign leaders "dumb down" their communications so Trump will understand them? Do you think the WH also uses short sentences and small words to communicate with Trump? It's generally a good tactic to aim one's speech at one's target audience if you want to influence them.

::sigh:: I've read the same quality of letter from 5th graders. Well, at least he didn't hand write the thing in one of his giant black sharpies. Or crayons.
He at least got an admin person to type it up nicely, and make sure there were no typos.

There is a line in Contact where 'Jodi Foster' said what she would ask a superior race is how they survived it... this technological age, this last step before we could have so much... and all to often, as history has shown, we end up killing ourselves instead... because those who don't want change, don't want progress, who have convinced themselves they have the fundamental spiritual authority will blow it the fuck up.

I thought the pic of the letter posted above was satire. Nope, that's the real thing. These past couple of years have been like a horror show. And, I have to stop going to his facebook page. Every time I do, facebook shows me which of my friends have liked his posts. Saw another one just now that I can't unsee.

And i'm not sure you know much history, but the past shows that we often slip back, sometimes quite a ways back, on the pathway forward. I don't watch media. I watch people. I watch quite a bit thank you but I don't limit myself to just watching because if I am going to be looking for proof the world is going to hell in a hand basket I am going to find it. So I read data and statistics that don't gel with what I am seeing to challenge my world view. The book I just recommended is over 400 pages long, stuffed with statistics, graphs and studies. No the world is not all unicorn farts and rainbows but over the course of history we as a human race continue to move forward studies continue to bear this out. Should we strive ever higher and better? Of course we should we still have a ways to go. That doesn't erase all the progress we have made up to now. We allowed a very loud minority to take over, doesn't mean they have to stay that way. Can they do a hell of a lot of damage along the way, yes they can, but eventually we will move forward and beyond if we don't allow ourselves to bend over and take it.
