Some people I went to HS with have really cool jobs.
Off hand, I can think of:
TV show actor Roller Hockey player NHL player Scuba teacher makeup artist TV show writer
Those careers were never mentioned at career day.

It's all a matter of context.
Some people think I had a really cool career.
I went to high school with a famous rockstar.
So, to have had a "cool" career in comparison, I would have had to be something like a ballet dancer astronaut brain surgeon movie star.
Which I wasn't.
I still thought my career was fun, though.

A kid that was part of my study abroad program in London now works for LucasFilm. He was even interviewed as part of a film that played at Disney World in the Star Wars area (before Galaxy's Edge). That was a shock watching that and unexpectedly seeing someone that you know! His job seems awesome working on all the Star Wars movies and games.

Anthony Bourdain's job looked like fun. So did Rick Mercer's.
Rick traveled throughout Canada, doing interesting things...everything from snorkeling with seals to working with Emergency Rescue teams to hot air ballooning to training guide dogs to flying a glider with military cadets.

I once had to consult with Dr. Nick, Elvis Presley's doctor. It concerned a case I was handling where the employee was caught using heroin.

my HS class wasn't huge, but we also had an NHL player. classes around me have seen NFL players in their midst. it's boring around here.
however, the story that still amuses me is a male music artist that has managed to pull a David Hasselhoff thing in Europe. this guy dated my jr HS best friend for awhile, and other than the Euro-pop fame, his other claim to fame is being a dancer for Britney Spears before she lost her mind and shaved her head. apparently they also dated before her quickie wedding to Kevin Federline. take all of that for what you will. my FB friend request for curiosity's sake has gone ignored for a few years now. can't y'all see how broken up I am about it all 🤣

There's a current NHL player and a current NFL player, and a Broadway actress that went to my HS, but they graduated years and years after me. I have no idea about people I graduated with. Some have very important jobs, just not what I'd consider fun, though.

A friend of mine is the dance coordinator for our local community theater.
I saw the first musical he choreographed. Our drama teacher would be so proud.

When I lived in Georgia, small city, and everyone was only step removed (at most) from anyone famous. I was good acquaintance with the niece of a former president and a member of the LPGA hall of fame. Both had kids who did sports with my kids.
I was also friend of a friend to a singer/American idol judge, an American idol winner, and a baseball player/MVP winner.

Oh, I thought of one! Someone who went to my HS wound up being in charge of designing/choreographing half time shows for Superbowls and opening ceremonies for the Olympics. I can't remember who it was, though. Probably a few years younger than me, at least.

I graduated with a famous actress, and early hires at two no name internet start ups (AOL and Microsoft).
Most of my HS class either ended up being Drs, Lawyers, or computer geeks, so boring run of the mill stuff. I fell far from the tree, and to them, I have the cool job playing in the woods all day.

Amazing how many of us brush against fame.
It is kind of a surreal experience to watch your lab partner from HS chemistry class compete in the Olympics. And later watch them doing color commentary on Wide World of Sports. Especially since we come from a county of 3,000 people, and a high school graduating class of 69 kids.

I have a cousin who has done animation for Nickelodeon and MTV, that's about it for people with cool jobs in proximity to me.

I have no clue. Reading this thread makes me realize I have no clue what anyone I went to school with is doing, has done or even alive. I never kept up with anyone in high school or the few years in college. Now I guess if one's name popped up prominently somewhere with a picture I might be able to contribute to this thread. But so far it's a no go with the brush with fame.
I do have some autographs of famous people I got as a kid at fairs, triple A ball park and a few concerts. Do they count??

I went to school with members of a well known band within a specific genre that's been playing together for about 20 years now. I looked them up recently and they're still putting out albums, winning awards and one of the few bands in that genre that was nominated for a Billboard music award in the last year or two. Saw one of them randomly about 2 years ago as at least some of them still live in our city and he looked pretty haggard. I'm sure the lifestyle has something to do with it but I don't know if I'd consider looking like that at our age fun. In my 20's for sure but in my late 30's being on the road and touring doesn't sound appealing.
In the mid to late 2000's a buddy of mine worked for a company that was contracted from or a small offshoot of one of the major production companies. He used to run press junkets for various movies and he would hire his friends for the day to work them in hotels where they rented rooms, the actors/actresses were sitting in the rooms and one at a time the interviewers got about 5 minutes with them. Worked on three different junkets and met multiple people who were all pretty nice or at least not bothered when they had to interact with us. I was always in one room for most of the time but we could see on screens the other rooms where other actors/actresses were getting interviewed. I enjoyed making spare cash and doing something different outside of my regular job. The company he worked for ended up going under, getting bought out or something along those lines when the great recession hit and he didn't end up getting back into the industry.

I've never rubbed elbows with anyone of any fame, big time or small time.
But I do like my job and what I do.

I want to hold newborn babies at the hospital. How do I get paid for that? When my son was in NICU, older ladies were there as volunteers to hold the babies when parents were away (those that could be held, anyway). Not paid for it, but it's possible! This was at Doernbecher in Portland.

I've never met anyone remotely famous. A former client was a buddy of Bruce Springsteen. My niece's first novel is being published in the spring, so maybe I will be related to a best selling author

On one's back? Err...I was gonna suggest flatbacking. Dang. I might have been sitting on a gold mine Had some larger-than-life kinds of jobs, though, and sometimes wonder was that really me? I mean, I'm just an ordinary, regular mortal. How on earth did I rise to such heights? I was first in my class sort of. First in the bottom third of a class consisting of 99 students. With the exception of appearing on Donahue back in the day, really never did anything notable my ownself. Nobody in my high school class did anything notable, either. A cousin was a state senator in Oregon. Another cousin was a Green Party vice-presidential candidate a few years back. Have a few illustrious ancestors but that was a long time ago at the turn of the 20th century. The long and the short of it is that the best and only fun job I ever had? Being a cleaning fairy. I would not joke about such a thing. I purely loved being a cleaning fairy because my clients were so grateful and appreciative. Funny, they always apologized for having dirty/messy houses. Um. That's why they needed a cleaning fairy. It was also very lucrative.

Forgot! A cousin who's a stuntman. Really. The Medallion, Spider-Man 2, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Night at the Museum 2, Ant-Man, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Avatar. And he's Dante in the Devil May Cry video games. Most recent stunts in the new Star Wars the Rise of Skywalker, which will be released soon. Now that might be a fun job except for getting hurt from time to time. He just turned 44.

A friend's sibling is a set designer.
I don't think anyone from my graduating class has done anything particularly noteable. The Grumpy Cat family went there at some point.
