WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House is acknowledging that President Donald Trump asked Ukraine’s leader to investigate his country’s role in meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign.
Acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said Thursday that Trump held up military assistance to Ukraine in part because of concern about corruption in that country. He said they also wanted Ukraine’s cooperation in investigating whether Democratic National Committee’s email servers were in Ukraine. They also were looking at levels of assistance European nations were providing to Ukraine, he said.
Mulvaney denies there was a quid pro quo and says “we do that all the time with foreign policy.”
He pointed to the example of the administration holding up aid to Central American countries to force them to change their policies on immigration.
Trump ultimately released nearly $400 million in military and other aid to Ukraine
That's the whole article from AP.
We do it to benefit the country. We do not do it to benefit the President or some other office holder. Makes me wonder what Mulvaney has done wrong to even compare them.

Interesting. Thanks for the last link. That would help explain some of those images on the news. It looked like the worst planned departure done by the military.

Anyone read the Admiral McRaven opinion piece today? OPINION Our Republic Is Under Attack From the PresidentIf President Trump doesn’t demonstrate the leadership that America needs, then it is time for a new person in the Oval Office. By William H. McRaven Admiral McRaven is a former commander of the United States Special Operations Command.Last week I attended two memorable events that reminded me why we care so very much about this nation and also why our future may be in peril. The first was a change of command ceremony for a storied Army unit in which one general officer passed authority to another. The second event was an annual gala for the Office of Strategic Services (O.S.S.) Society that recognizes past and present members of the intelligence and Special Operations community for their heroism and sacrifice to the nation. What struck me was the stark contrast between the words and deeds heralded at those events — and the words and deeds emanating from the White House. On the parade field at Fort Bragg, N.C., where tens of thousands of soldiers have marched either preparing to go to war or returning from it, the two generals, highly decorated, impeccably dressed, cleareyed and strong of character, were humbled by the moment. They understood the awesome responsibility that the nation had placed on their shoulders. They understood that they had an obligation to serve their soldiers and their soldiers’ families. They believed in the American values for which they had been fighting for the past three decades. They had faith that these values were worth sacrificing everything for — including, if necessary, their lives. Complete article here: Our Republic Is Under Attack From the President

If you can't rely on Fox to cheerlead for the Trumpettes, who can you count on?
Mulvaney is toast. Trump aides are already looking for a replacement. You have to be better at lying through your teeth if you want to work for Trump.

I have to admit, I didn't know how low the Republican party would go until yesterday. I am surprised they would join the Trump reality show.

More private server usage being investigated.
The National Archives and Records Administration has launched an investigation into Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross’ use of private email for official business, according to a letter made public this week.
The inquiry was triggered by an unflattering profile of Ross last month in the Washington Post, which cited government-related emails the watchdog group Democracy Forward received from Ross’ private account. The group obtained the messages through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit.
“The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) has become aware of a potential unauthorized disposition of U.S. Department of Commerce records,” Archives official Laurence Brewer wrote in an Oct. 9 letter to Jennifer Jessup, who serves as Commerce’s Chief Information Officer.
from further in the article.
However, as many as eight current and former senior Trump administration officials have been reported to use their personal email to conduct official business at least occasionally, including President Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who serve as senior White House advisers. Ivanka Trump dismissed the reports, saying there was “no equivalency” between her conduct and Clinton’s.

Oregon Rep. Greg Walden to retire in latest sign of GOP doubts about retaking House Rep. Greg Walden, the top Republican on the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee, will retire at the end of this Congress, the veteran lawmaker announced Monday.
The 62-year-old Walden, who was first elected in 1998, said he was confident he'd win reelection but decided instead to end his congressional career in Jan. 2021.

It is really sad to see so many people willing to overturn an election and remove a president from office based entirely on an anonymous complaint from an anonymous government functionary whom they want to testify behind closed doors. Sorry, but that's not how it works. If you want the American people to support President Trump's impeachment and removal from office- you're going to do it right out in the open with a vote of the people's elected representatives. I totally agree that it would be really sad if this were happening. It isn't, but it would be sad. Now here in the real world, any Articles of Impeachment will have to pass a public vote and if passed will result in a public trial and vote. remove a president from office based entirely on an anonymous complaint from an anonymous government functionary whom they want to testify behind closed doors.
That appears to be happening now. I thought there was something about getting to face the accuser.

Seriously? Countless people corroborating in depositions. And once again, the House investigates and essentially brings the indictment... the SENATE holds the trial.

Ahhh excuse me "Old"....I am getting the feeling your just here to ...a bit of trolling. As it has been explained here as well in the media..."whistle blowers" are not , as u put it . just functionaries, but essential for our government to run smoothly and honestly...and are expected to be anominouse..forever..or at least till they retired or leave gov't employment....I am thinking of "Deep Throat" as a prime example...There is even laws passed to protect them.. As I understand it..a whistle blower who has information that they feel shows someone or persons shows wrong doing regarding the government turns this information over to officials who's job is to investigate wrong doing and THEY, not the whistleblower, determine if there is a basis to go further or to just ignore and drop the charge..The whistle blower does not determine ANYTHING...SQUAT...NOTHING. If any one should be questioned, it would be those who did the investigating , the determinating of possible wrong doing. Capice

Tomorrow's witness, Lt. Colonel Alexander Vindman, is rumored to be another coffin nail. His opening statement was released earlier tonight. And he was on the calls, no hearsay, no 2nd hand account, he was on the calls.
Colonel Alexander Vindman joined the U.S. military, fought in the Iraq war, got blown up by a roadside bomb, earned a Purple Heart, and then continued serving in the military after he got blown up by a bomb.
Donald Trump dodged military service by faking bone spurs.
