It's not click-bait where you keep having to hit "Next".

And #7 was me about a year or two older.

My parents used the baby car seat in picture #8. It's a miracle our generation lived to be adults. My high school best friend's Mom used to blow cigarette smoke into the ears of her babies, because she believed it helped to prevent ear infections.

While not on a motorcycle but on the bicycle, seats like that can still be found all over the country. Often those bicycles also have a seat behind the rider for another kid. And bags with groceries hanging below the rear seat as well as from the handles. Quite a common sight still (yes I did that too - and my kids survived PHEW)

My mom blew smoke in my ear when I had an earache...not sure where the hell that tidbit of medical advice came from

Put me down as a bad parent for having a pic of kiddo from 1994 of him sitting on a bar. But in my defense, I was a bartender in the bar, hubby & I met in that bar, & the judge that married us owned the bar. And yeah, we had our shot gun wedding reception at the bar. No we didn't get married IN the bar, I had to draw a line somewhere. So the pic of kiddo on the bar came full circle...sorta....as a lame shot at defending it. lol
As to pic #4 there may be a picture of me, around age 4, with a bunch of Marines who had just came back from Viet Nam between tours. In the background of the picture is a table with my parents & more Marines breaking up a large brick of pot from Viet Nam. It was also taken ON base in 29 Palms.
But honest to god, my life is not nearly as trashy as all that makes it sound. LOL

I used to get it all the time when I was little. ETA: Not blowing smoke in my ears, but putting me next to my uncle that smoked.

Is the bar still there and do you still go to it? The bar was in Houston & I'm in Georgia now. It was a small neighborhood bar & I have no idea if it's still there.

First day of school 1969. Look at the short dress! (My cousin). I was in 1st grade, walk to school was 1/2 mile and had to cross a busy street. So my mom made me walk to school with neighbor boy who was in 2nd grade.

I grew up on a dairy farm. Was driving tractors by 1st grade, grain trucks between 2nd & 3rd grade. When I see kids that age in my school now all I can think is "my parents were crazy"

Irish, I also grew up on a dairy farm I was in charge of carrying the milk buckets to the milk house & pouring it into the separator....that separated the cream from the milk. Cream went into 5 gal. cans & milk went into 10 gal. milk cans. I then had to lift them into a livestock water tank in one end of the milk house where well water was pumped in 24/7 to cool the milk until the truck came to pick it up 3 times a week. That tank was about 4' tall & I wasn't much taller...but I sure was strong. I was also in charge of washing all the milking equipment, rinsing it off & then putting it thru a water based sanitizer & turn it upside down to all air dry until the next milking. This was twice a day and it started when I was about 6. Before that, as soon as I could hold a hoe...about age 4...I got to hoe garden every summer....pick strawberries, cherries, gooseberries, mulberries, tomatoes, green beans, corn and a few other things as they all got ready. Digging our 3/4 acre of potatoes was a family affair...an all day one. Dad didn't let me drive his new Oliver 77 tractor....but I did drive the car when I had to stretch a far piece to reach the pedals...once we had an automatic. He also taught me how to change a tire...a tire with a tube!
I lived & so did my son getting raised much the same way.

Kadee, yeah now our parents would be arrested for child endangerment! It was only in the first couple of years of milking that we did the cream separation, after that we sold all the milk, first in cans and then had a bulk tank. We were never a Grade A operation (piping system) so it was still a lot of manual work carrying the milk. Funny thing, we also had an Oliver 77 tractor! And yeah, lots of gardening, never did eat a store bought vegetable until i left home. With potatoes, we raised enough for what we needed. But one year, when dad was headed into town he asked mom if she needed anything and she said that it was time to get potatoes planted so could he buy some seed potatoes. Usually 20 lbs was about what we planted. He came back with 100 lbs bag of seed potatoes. My younger brother and I planted them all (it was an early spring) and then sold them starting in early June. We made a killing on them.

I was a bit stunned to see how small those desks were for first graders. The top of their desks were maybe knee high?

I went to kindergarten through 3rd grade in a school built in the late 1890's.
In kindergarten, we did have our own bathroom. There was also a 3 room play area. For whatever reason, I only remember the kitchen.
I distinctly remember that the door to the school building was too heavy for me when I was in kindergarten and I could not open it. One day, I got lost on the way to school. Most likely day dreaming. By the time I found my way to school, I was late and the doors were closed. The teacher found me crying outside when she went to let the kids out for recess. I was crying because I couldn't get the door open.

With my 1st DD, I had/used a carseat like in #17, that had the arms/hooks that went over the back of the seat and a little bar that went in front of the child.
They weren't really a safety thing. More of just a place for a child to sit so they could see out and you didn't have to hold them. Which was much safer, than holding them on your lap while you drive.
Back then, cars didn't have child safety locks, and seat belts were an added feature (cost extra). At about 18 months, my DD pulled on the door handle of the passenger side, just as I made a left turn. The door flew open and she went out, landing on her face, on the pavement. I stopped in the middle of the intersection so neither I, or anyone else, would run over her.
The first car I bought with child safety locks actually scared me. I remember telling the salesman, when he showed them to me, "Great. Now someone can kidnap me in my own car, and I won't be able to get out!" -I didn't have little kids (toddlers) anymore.
I still don't prefer electric door locks and windows. I wish I had manual door locks, windows and transmission.

My parents owned a bowling alley when I was born. The photos from when I was a baby and toddler are amazing in today's world. Beer and cigarettes. I'm told a babysitter gave me pepsi when I was an infant because I wouldn't stop crying. Guess it was better than hitting me. I was given Pepsi as a newborn by my uncle, to stop me from crying. He dipped his finger into his Pepsi, then put it in my mouth. Haha (I went home to my aunt and uncle's, from the hospital, not my parents house, when I was born. My mom had complications during my birth, so she had to stay in the hospital and my dad was a fireman, so he worked 24 hour shifts.)

I was older than a newborn and the babysitter was giving me the Pepsi straight from the bottle.
I hope your mom recovered from her complications. My mom also had complications but they kept me in the hospital as long as she was there. It was 10 days that we were there.
My parents didn't have a car. They didn't own a car until I was in 3rd grade. When mom was released, mom and I were taken to my parents' bowling alley because that is where dad needed to be. I never thought to ask her if she had to work that day.
Their apartment was about a block from the bowling alley. The bowling alley was under the movie theater and the apartment was over a photography studio, so lots of steps for mom when she was carrying me in her arms.

I'm also kind of surprised to find out I'm not the only one in the whole wide world that prefers manual locks and windows. -Heh.

He can be cheap at times so maybe he decided it was too expensive and told me they couldn't do it.
You would probably get along great with him. He would prefer to be living in the 60's. His hobby is restoring antique slot machines. His house is decorated in the past, except for the television and computer.

I don't want to live in the 60's. I just like my door to unlock/lock when I choose, to be able to roll down my window without having the car on and I like to shift, so I can go fast! zoom, zoom!

You would win on his slot machines. They all have coin in them because it's illegal to let people gamble at home.
My dad had a fantastic time playing his silver dollar machine. Then he realized, he didn't get to keep the winnings.

Plus, I played with the coins in the machine. Haha 😁

That's why there are coins at each machine. If the coins aa get used, he uses the key and takes coins out.
