You can buy all kinds of Disney junk way cheaper in the souvenir stores. I will spend, but I'm also frugal about things like that. We never had a Disney trip break us up. Now I did spend almost $1000 to park my motorhome for a month just a few miles from Disney, always well worth it.

An important thing to consider: the weather. We went to DW in January about 6 years ago and the Orlando area was hit with a polar vortex — wind chills in the single digits. We’re native New Englanders and we froze our asses off. It totally sucked and my kids had were in their late teens. We had a multi-day pass. Used it the one day and left and went to Key West. The kids have had no interest to go back. I imagine Weather like that would suck with a 3 year old. Go when she’s older. Good point - January and February are hit and miss. I have been once in December. We went for 10 days over Christmas. Weather was great for 8 days and freezing for 2. I have been three times in January. Once it was in the 90s. Once it was in the 70s. Once it was in the 40s (that was in 2018 when it was the polar vortex in PA and temps were like -15). That time was no fun. I have been once in February. It was in the 70s, the last day was in the 60s and windy. What can I say? I like Disney.

We went this year, itt will probably be the only time. Ages were just turned 6 and about to turn 9. It worked out well. The 6y/o was just tall enough to ride everything. The measured her 3x before getting on Rockin' Rollercoaster. She also was still into princesses, so there was that. We didn't do any character meals but got pics with Elsa, Anna, Belle, Mickey, Minnie and Donald. We did each park one day. Even at those ages they were done by 4pm and just wanted to go back to the hotel and hit the pool. I flew southwest and brought a suitcase full of food, even ice packs and lunch box coolers. That was honestly the best decision I made. I mostly enjoyed the time it saved us. It we hadn't flown southwest I would have opted to get a grocery delivery.

My daughter is a big fan of Minnie and Mickey, she just loves them. So for her third birthday in a January we are thinking about taking her to Disney World. Would like ideas on how to keep expenses in check. It seems with passes and other things you can easily double your costs and are they necessary? At first we were thinking 1 week but decided maybe 3 days / 2 nights will be enough for her. She only cares about Minnie and Mickey, just getting into the Frozen characters... so as long as she gets to see them she will be happy. So her birthday is on 01/15 so thinking the weekend before or the weekend after (MLK day) or during the week and actually celebrates her birthday there. Trying to book everything this month and be done with it. All ideas are welcomed. Adding my $0.02 here: We took our kid to a resort with characters when she was 2.5-ish. All the characters in costume FREAKED HER OUT. She would stare at them from across the room, they would come say hi, she would start screaming "DONT TOUCH ME ELMO!!!!!!!" and crying hysterically. Wait. Wait at least a year. Everyone will have a better time if you wait. Your kid isn’t the first one! One of my visits, there was a toddler screaming loudly that she wanted to go home, they were scared of one of the characters. This was about 30 min after the park opened and mom was desperately trying to salvage something of this expensive park ticket. Kid was having nothing to do with it and could not be consoled, so the last vision I had of them was them walking towards the exit.

🤣 I'm loving everyone talk about how cold it's been down here. Usually we're called wimps and told to shut up when we're complaining about the cold!
It is temperamental in the winter. You never know if it'll be 90 or 30. And it can swing widely in a few days too.

We went end of November early December last year. Some of our group went early and it was 75 80. We had a couple 50 degree days. Then it was 80 again. It varies.
