I heard some talking heads discussing our current situation with China.
One said that Trump had made a huge strategic error with China, because he seems to think trade wars can have a winner, when, usually, trade wars have no winners. Right now, the economies of both countries are running into the rocks due to this trade war.
Secondly, he pointed out that Trump has to run for re-election in 2020, but the Chinese leader will hold his office for life, barring a coup. The Chinese leader can afford to play the long game, Trump cannot.
One of them had a theory that Trump is scrambling for a way out, and will end up settling with a bad deal in order to have some kind of deal in place prior to the 2020 election. If he does that, and the deal is a bad one for the already suffering farmers, that could kill his re-election bid.
I'm not a trade expert or a farmer, so I was wondering what the board thought, especially about the Chinese leader being able to sit and wait another year or so, to wait on the next POTUS to take office.

Well, there are still farmers who are going bankrupt supporting him. Can not figure out their thinking...shooting themselves in the foot so to speak.
I'm not a trade expert either, but I know at least one pecan farmer from Ga. is going to China to try to go around DT & his tariffs...don't know if he will be able to do anything or not.

Not an expert here either but the local papers keep saying soybean farmers are pissed. They don't want unreliable government checks they want to be able to do business as they always have.
Whether enough farmers here still support him enough to reelect him IDK.
Nebraska will vote for him even if he managed to bankrupt them it's a deep red state. It may actually break a seal if Nebraska turned blue.

I wish I could say with confidence that an ongoing trade war will hurt his re-election chances, but I just can't be so sure anymore. There are too many people that are still members of his cult, and with the electoral college, he may win again, even if his opponent gets 5-10 million more votes than Trump.
I've lost all faith in this country, I just can't afford to go anywhere else.

Not according to Weltz...according to worldwide research. www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/quality-of-life-rankings In any case, of course she can afford a house...just not in downtown Toronto or Vancouver. Are you saying that no Canadians own houses because they're not affordable? That's BS. You're so full of crap. More than 9.5 million of the 14.1 million households in Canada owned their home in 2016, representing a homeownership rate of 67.8%. The rate of homeownership has been relatively stable over the last decade. In 2006, the rate was 68.4% and in 2011 it was 69.0%. In contrast, over the period 1991 to 2006, the homeownership rate rose from 62.6% to 68.4%. www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/daily-quotidien/171025/dq171025c-eng.htm

Looks like more Canadians than Americans own their own home, so as usual, you have no idea what you're talking about. Must be the "alternate facts" I keep hearing about.

I could afford a house in Mexico for dirt cheap, but I wouldn't be able to find a job that would pay decent, and I am too young to retire.
Also, I would need to take my elderly mother with me. I'm definitely not in an easy position to just up and move.

Now you are asking us to believe them? Are you confusing CNBC with MSNBC? CNBC is a stock/business cable outlet, and yes, some of the staff scews to the left as they are always using NBC reporters in some reports daily, attacking the President but I use both FOX Business and CNBC for stock news. And for the record, I support President Trump, but do not blindly follow his message. The Democrats have forced many Americans to flee the party, and it only leaves one place to go. Quit blaming Trump and look inward at your democratic party and quit blindly kneeling down to their "dear leaders" of the party.

" I support President Trump, but do not blindly follow his message. " It seems even his own people are admitting the man lies...can we believe anything the man says,, just asking. ========================= I am wondering if these two officials are still employed?...just wondering. ============================= "President Donald Trump may have made up high-level phone calls on trade negotiations between the American and Chinese governments at the G7 summit last weekend to boost confidence in the market after days of financial upheaval. CNN reported that two administration officials said Trump had conflated comments from Chinese Vice Premier Liu He and cited them as phone conversations in a bid to calm jolted markets." www.yahoo.com/news/trump-may-made-high-level-205522763.html88yytr

This is actually some serious shit - Trump lied to the American people, claiming that he'd discussed resolving the trade war with China in order to calm the markets.
Serious impeachable shit, actually. 'Executive privilege' does not grant him the ability to spread bullshit to cover up his fuck up.
All he had to do was say "We're working hard to try to restart the trade talks' instead of 'we talked to them last week and they're ready to fix this' and he would have been fine. As usual, he couldn't bring himself to stick to the actual rather than spout the fantastical.
What's dangerous is that now, our allies and business leaders know they can't rely on anything the man says (as if there was much doubt before) because Trump says what will help him most, regardless of how accurate it is.

Just the sound of crickets coming from Republicans in Congress and here.

Just the sound of crickets coming from Republicans in Congress and here. Since Congress has given the president a pass on multiple other impeachable actions thus far, I didn't expect they would do or say anything about this. No one seems interested in holding this president accountable for anything he does.
I'm curious, though, if you're a big manufacturer of widgets and you heard Trump claiming he was negotiating an end to the trade war with China, and based on his assurances, you increased your widget production - would you be able to sue the administration for providing false information?
Probably Trump's lawyers would just whip out proof about all the previous hundreds of lies he's said to show that the CEO had no business trusting anything Trump said to be true, in the first place, I guess.

China might just be interested in this outcome. My point is, if you are wrong and Trump does not become the next POTUS, the 'long run' is about 16 months. They only have to sit and wait this out. However, Trump doesn't have that long. If he can't make one of his fabled 'fabulous deals' with China prior to the 2020 election, I think the China trade war hurts his re-election chances.
I think there is a good chance he folds and negotiates a bad trade deal with China, and tries to sell it as a good one, just to make sure he comes up with some kind of deal prior to the election.
