I get it. None of the feminists on here can admit that most men got screwed when it came to getting drafted in the Vietnam war while women were safe from the draft. When your hatred of men is so deep that you can’t even admit when they were negatively impacted by sexism...got it most men got screwed when it came to being drafted.
but the all male draft is fatally patriarchal.
They totally got screwed. Thank you for acknowledging that. And a draft is absolutely patriarchal. In today's world men no longer feel like the protectors and women no longer want men to protect them. My two daughters are safe from any kind of draft or serving in the military so it isn't my fight. I can't imagine a society where men want their daughters to go off to war but that is where we are.

Actually it strikes me that your internalised misogyny makes you incapable of allowing discussion of sexism against women to take place. You don't even acknowledge it when it happens to you. I didn't bring up the Vietnam war but responded to it when others (perhaps even you) said it was a privilege for men to get drafted. At least dj was honest enough to say men got screwed. Funny enough, a raging feminazi agreed with him but when I say it I am internalizing misogyny...and yes, I get that it is sexist to not allow women to get drafted but that doesn't mean that the men that got drafted that didn't want to go and then died (or came back so fucked up) didn't get screwed. I know the history of sexism. I know that sexism in some form will always exist (going both ways, btw). But refusing to acknowledge when females benefit is ridiculous, as well. In one breath we want equality, in another breath we still want to be paid to sit home for a year for each child we have. In one breath we want equality, but then we want men to support us so we can sit home and not work. In one breath we want equality, but then we choose family friendly careers that pay less and then go after the man for child support, alimony, his pension/401k plan and anything else we can get our hands on. I got divorced and my ex has not paid one cent to me. It would never occur to me to go after someone for money or assets. I am truly a strong, independent women who does not need a man for anything. My favorite is when "strong, feminist women" suck at the teat of their husband/ex-husband...give me a break. Call me a misogynist all you want...I'm calling hypocrite for every feminist that relies on a man for support. 1) Familial leave is available to either mother, father, or they can split it. 2) Who the hell wants men to support them, so they're entirely dependent on a man, 100%? I sure don't. 3) I got no child support, alimony or any assets like pension plans. That being said are you opposed to men paying child support for children they helped create? Really? You say we hate men, but you sound like you really hate women.

Since women have fought for and won the right to fight at the frontline, a future draft may well include females. I assume that your special needs daughter would be safe either way, but that may not be true anymore for your other daughter. I just hope we won't need another draft ever again as I want all sons and daughters to be safe.

Not every man.... Those who did not have wealthy, influential families who could obtain dr reports claiming minor issues (like bone sours) - I get it. None of the feminists on here can admit that most men got screwed when it came to getting drafted in the Vietnam war while women were safe from the draft. When your hatred of men is so deep that you can’t even admit when they were negatively impacted by sexism...got it I wouldn't say 'men' were screwed, I'd say 'poor men' were screwed in the draft. Totally screwed.
Kids from wealthy families could get a cushy job in the Coast Guard (that he didn't show up half the time for) like Bush Jr, or get a doctor to write a fake letter about fake bone spurs. Plenty of ways for well connected, wealthy parents to shield their sons from the draft. Bill Clinton wasn't from a wealthy family but managed to stay in college with a scholarship to avoid serving.
For poor males, a disproportionate number of them being non-white males, there was no legal way to avoid getting drafted.
I'm glad they did away with the draft, but I think we need to create a new law that all military age children and grandchildren of congressmen and the president (males and females) are obligated to serve in active duty positions whenever we have a war. I think that would make our politicians think very seriously before they launched another one.

small correction. W got a cushy spot with TANG (Texas Air National Guard). he then proceeded to go AWOL, for which, he got precisely ZERO consequences. when Rather called him out for it, the W campaign managed to get him fired for it.

a Since there is no draft these days we're equal at this time. I was speaking to the dying issue, not the drafting issue. Except this thread was about inequality towards women in 1971. There was also inequality towards men Not in the workplace, there wasn't. Not in the banking world, getting credit, getting a loan, That is the topic of this thread. You attempted to derail it with the draft. Women weren't drafted in 1971 because we lived in a paternalistic society. The same paternalistic society deemed women to frail to work more than 2 hrs of overtime/day. So the men I worked with could work as many hours of overtime, but, by law, I was limited to 2 hrs. The same paternalistic society said it was OK to test prospective employees for pregnancy and to fire them if they got pregnant. Too bad you were born in 1971, You'd have LOVED firing pregnant women then....

So I’m 100% that this would not impact my children.

I’m not against reasonable child support. I’m against women looking at a man like the lottery in the event of divorce. And I see it all the time. Women brag about what they got. Same women yammering about being a feminist. Perhaps I thought a feminist stood for a strong woman who could take care of herself...guess that’s why I’m not a feminist?

We want women to have choices. That includes the choice to be a stay at home mom if that is what works best for her & her family. Or to have the choice to shatter the glass ceiling in their career. It's about having the freedom to make that decision for themselves.
I'm still surprised that the people who are the most judgemental against SAHMs are conservatives. The same "family values" conservatives. So which way do they want it?
