All of which makes his "chosen one" moment totally in keeping with who he is. Trump knows it will make good TV. He knows people will run with it. That his supporters will laugh and cheer and that his enemies will be triggered. It's a provocative move -- and Trump loves provocation. link

We've transitioned from "Biff's World" in Back to the Future II into a Stephen King novel. Stephen King's Needful Things. I feel like more Gerald's Game. The monster in the corner is real and has been real the entire time. We're all handcuffed to the bed & we're going to have to save ourselves. No one can hear us screaming.
Besides, I like Needful Things too much. It's one of the books I reread every year.

Look at what he’s distracting from: he wants to detain migrants and refugees INDEFINITELY. if he gets away with it, it won't end there. which is why everyone left of center should have an escape plan.
I agree in theory. But practically - what about all the people who can't leave? What about the people already in those camps?

Wooooo Hooooo you all are going to be so happy when he gets re-elected. There will be a sense of closure for me that will come from the 2020 election. I think that an unknown quantity was elected by the American voters in 2016. President Trump is now a known quantity. If he is reelected, I will know what my country wants in a president. And that is a good thing moving forward.

I saw the actual video clip this evening. Yes, bad reference of the "Chosen one" if your religious which we know the op is not so why freaking care? And to the reference he is referring he was the one that had to do the fight with China because no freaking President in thirty years had the courage to stop China's pillaging of the world through stealing business and government secrets around the world and flood the world with cheap merchandise with virtual actual slave labor, and destroying other country's ability to produce anything at a competitive price.
P.S. 280 MORE WEEKS TO GO!

You got to give Trump some credit. He stopped press conferences where the liberal members ask questions to disgrace him (remember the fake Russia collusion?) and use the cameras to promote their own personna as the cameras turn and pick up the reporter's face, etc. Think Acosta of CNN as a reference. Now he does it as he approaches the helicoptor, takes the question, and the reporter's face is never shown and does not take any follow up question from the reporter so that person can promote his/her agenda. This works great for his base as it keeps him on top of the argument, and is not afraid to call out their hatred of him. He has turned the table entirely around even if 50% of America does not like him. Whether posters here are willing to admit it, the President is now getting his message out to America and the national media cannot stop it, unless they no longer are there to report it....... The democrats have been basically on defense most of this year as their Russian collusion was being seen for what it was. A coup. Trump, even this week has been the center of attention while the democrats running for President are barely getting any attention these days.

No, but then I prefer my President not to be a demented ass-clown; sadly, I don't always get what I want.
However, I've also long since given up on the notion that they (media, Democratic leadership, just about any Republican) are going to treat him like what he is, so I've mostly stopped paying attention. To continue to engage with him on his terms, as though he is anything other than deeply non-normative, is a losing strategy.
Much like internet trolls, he thrives on engagement and reaction; I refuse to give it to him. If only I could block him as easily.

I still say Needful Things. He's a smooth liar and he "has what you need". Then malignantly tears the country apart, by pitting people against each other.

The antichrist. He gets in 4 more years our democracy is done. And I imagine there will be Russian or N Korean troops marching in the streets to bring order to this country that only he can give to us. And then he will declare himself great leader for life.
N Korea puts families in prison for 3 generations, likely what he wants to do with illegals, a new slave labor class for his use.
When will a resistance finally arise? You won't be free to post on the net what we are saying now. Likely all free speech will be repressed and folks will be imprisoned.
Be afraid, be very afraid.

My husband just cannot believe what is happening, neither of us can. He said for a president to even voice keeping people in basically "jail" indefinitely is beyond anything he can believe. Neither of us can believe that the people of this country are not up in arms over it and all the idiotic stuff this guy is doing. We are beyond appalled at what he is doing. We both think the republican party has sold out. I think the Russians have compromised the whole bunch in congress. How in gods name could they be lock step with this idiot and mcconnell. We are in dire straits and how can we get out of it. I thought our constitution would protect us from such as this. But I guess it did not foresee a president that is power hungry and crazy and a leader of the senate that would sell out. Who knew this could or would happen? We really thought our leaders were patriots, who knew this could happen?

Do you think a president of a democracy who only has the support of about 40% of the voters should be openly antagonistic towards the 60% who do not support him?
Because to me, his name calling and denigration of the people who don't support him is something a dictator does, not the president of a freedom loving democracy.
Also, I would point out that while Trump appears to believe all publicity is good publicity, that is not actually true. When you stand in front of the cameras and lie repeatedly, point after point after point, and insist that Jewish people who don't support you are disloyal to the country (something your staff tried to walk back for you earlier in the day) that does get out to the people, but is not well received by the majority of the people.
There is a large percentage of American voters who wish Trump would just shut the fuck up, stay out of the spotlight, work for the betterment of the country (and not just himself) and make some small effort to be dignified and presidential.

Wooooo Hooooo you all are going to be so happy when he gets re-elected. You know, for someone who spends a whole lot of time hopping mad about police overreach, you are really into the guy who is working to turn America into even more of a police state. It is, frankly, one of the most startling examples of cognitive dissonance I've ever seen displayed.

The police gunning down unarmed people, would disappear over night. But for some reason the General population is Ok with the police shooting people that have little or nothing! Thank you for pointing this out. Here is your link: thehill.com/opinion/campaign/458173-10-declassified-russia-collusion-revelations-that-could-rock-washington-this Here is my link: thehill.com/homenews/administration/458191-trump-job-approval-dips-poll"]Trump job approval dips in new poll Here is something near the top of your linked article: By John Solomon, opinion contributor — 08/20/19 07:00 PM EDT The views expressed by contributors are their own and not the view of The Hill Here is what appears in the same area in my linked article: By Morgan Gstalter - 08/21/19 07:37 AM EDT Many web sites and even broadcast media offer both "news" and "opinion"/"commentary". The cable Fox channel is a great example. So yes, when anyone posts opinion pieces from any source it is ...., well, it is opinion or perhaps propaganda. When anyone posts news articles from any source it is ..., well, a news article.

Right. I agree with you about the problems with police overreach and the current state of increasing militarization and zero accountability. So do many people. Most of them on the left. Yet you continue to support Trump, who has shown that he's willing to increase the militarization, blindly support police at the expense of individual liberties, and create entire shadow police forces with no accountability or oversight in the form of border patrol and ICE. If you can explain to me how that ISNT an example of cognitive dissonance, I'd appreciate it.
