I keep getting a ready warning that YMAM is not a secure website (even though I am logged in). (This is obviously aside from the general advice to not post personal info on message boards.)
I also get frequent suspicious pop ups when I visit YMAM ("You've won a $1,000 Walmart gift card, just click here" kind of stuff).
Anyone else?
Any way to fix both issues or is it a Proboards problem?

Is this on your phone? I get the pop ups on my phone on a this site occasionally, but never a not secure website warning and never anything on my PC. I do get the not secure site warning on several other sites whenever I'm logged into McDonald's or Target WiFi though, not on data.

I'm on a laptop. See the internet address of the site at the very top? It says "not secure" right there.

I've gotten both "secure" and "not secure" messages regarding YMAM. Not sure which is correct. Hasn't stopped me from visiting here yet...

Any way to fix both issues or is it a Proboards problem? I get plenty of pop up ads on this site. I also once and a while get an all red screen warning, google alert even with a something like a horn, blasting away "your computer has been compromised AND ALL DATA has been compromised and to contact MSN SUPPORT". Sometimes it even temporarily locks my computer and I have to shut down and reboot, and everything is okay. I have noticed in the header when I get this, the website is not part of google or MSN.

Not that I care. I'd be a little more worried if it was a banking site or something.

Yeah, my line at the top said secure, until I pressed reply and the "secure" vanished.
I am not really concerned about security here either. I just don't want to download a virus to my computer. So I am somewhat. I have to remind myself to be careful about links.

LOL, I was just on the thread asking if you use cash or credit with your everyday purchases etc. Guess what popped up? An ad for a check printing company.

The PB login/ registration screens and anywhere you pay for anything are secure. Those are the places that *need* to be. The rest will be at some point, hopefully not too far in the future. It's one of the things the PB is working hard on.
As for pop ups - if it's a simple pop up where you are NOT redirected away from the site, use the report ad link at the right side of the menu bar.
If it's something that takes you away from the site, they have a system that will automatically remove those, but it may take a couple of hours.

In my address bar on a laptop using Firefox, it starts out not secure.
I got so many pop ups here that I use an ad blocker.
I get the you've won $1000 iPhone type pop ups on my phone.

TheOtherMe, it will show not secure unless you are on the login/registering page, or purchasing something.

It varies in the address bar depending if on mini iPad, iPad Pro, desk top or laptop. Don't access YMAM from phone so no clue. I only notice it a while back when iPad pro address bar was a funky color when "not secure" was up there. But it's not just YMAM - notice it on a few other sites. I don't order online so not a biggie just one of those things you start to notice popping up here and there on different "devices" Nothing consistent either.

I finally got myself an adware removal program. I've been too lazy to figure out what to remove manually or what software to use so I lived with the ad pop ups for I can't remember how long. 8 were removed from my computer. So far so good.

I believe chrome was trying to make users more aware of sites that are not secure by putting ominous signs and warnings up whenever you were on a "not secure" site.
It was affecting our patrons using the library website (especially on the public computers - our website is the default opening page). They would get a warning and freak out (because they don't have their own computers at home, and aren't tech savvy), thinking the library site was compromised. Not good PR. So we looked into what it takes to be "secure". It's essentially a certificate, that the browsers read and interpret as "secure". We could get one for free (non profit), but the catch was hosting. We were getting our hosting thru a local (who created the website for us initially), but it was shared hosting - she had several local businesses on her server space. A secure certificate could only be issued for a single website on a server. So we had to get hosting elsewhere to get a "secure" certificate. We really don't need security, we don't take any information from patrons on our site, it's more for giving them info (calendar, new books, etc.)
Ironically, I've noticed that our system website is not secure; that one should be, you can log in to renew, request items, change addresses, etc. I believe it is functionally secure, but doesn't have the certificate to "prove" it.
