Moon, they did not have to go, It is put your money where your mouth, is,, if you don't want to , no overtime pay No, they didn't *have* to go. But it should have never have been a choice they had to make in the first place. It is never right for an employer to hold wages hostage over politics. I could see them saying they'd pay OT for anyone wanting to go as an incentive, as long as they didn't penalize those who didn't want to. And yes, withholding what they would have been entitled to on a normal day just because they don't attend a rally is holding wages hostage, in my opinion. I was thinking the same thing...forgetting the over time bonus...workers not attending , if I read the article correctly, would lose a days pay...by staying away...which is not fair and to say it's a training day, with a few meetings but then making workers stay to hear a speech...political...not right. Not paying the overtime if workers leave before the Donald arriving , fine...but not to pay the normal days wages...wrong.

I don’t think non-management employees should have to attend or be put in a worse financial position or be forced to take a PTO day not to attend.
I have been invited with other management to meet with a local congressperson a couple times when they came for a tour and to discuss the industry. At my level at the company, that was something I knew I was signing up for. Non-management employees were invited to hear the congressperson speak but they didn’t have to attend, a lot did because it got them out of a couple hours of work.

I want to know how that isn't totally illegal. That has ZERO to do with their job. It's all kinds of fucked up. Our CEO told all the Business Unit General Managers that they should consider having a mandatory day of service where everyone as a team goes and volunteers at some local organization. He thinks it would make the company look good. My GM asked what I thought and I kinda had this reaction. What a bunch of bullshit. Can I call in sick that day? The CEO has already announced his retirement, so I'm hoping this is forgotten before he goes. I'm all for offsite team building and training, but I don't want to go down to the salvation army and fold nasty donated clothing with my co-workers (or whatever.) Maybe we could find a large-animal rescue organization and do heavy grounds keeping and pick up mounds of poop. And get paid for it? No thank you.

I just got back from the Montreal Pride parade. There were tens of thousands of union workers marching in it, from the Casino workers to Via Rail to firefighters, to Coast Guard, to nurses to cops. They weren't threatened with wages being withheld if they didn't march. They did it because they believe in the cause. THAT'S what's called "putting your money where your mouth is."

Maybe we could find a large-animal rescue organization and do heavy grounds keeping and pick up mounds of poop. And get paid for it? No thank you. A few years back, I had a conversation with an HR director regarding the task his Memphis based direct report employees would be doing on the company's community outreach Day of Caring day. His direct reports would be cleaning out a home that was filthy, including shit dripping down the basement walls from a broken toilet in the main floor. All of the director's direct reports in Memphis were salaried except one. She was hourly. If any of the salaried employees decided not to clean the house they would still be paid for the day as there was work in the office they could do. But the hourly employee would not be paid if she decided she did not want to clean up a mess because there would have been no work for her to do back at the office with everyone else gone. So the hourly employee cleaned up shit off the basement walls. As I was covering for the HR rep assigned to the HR division that day, I told the director not include the hourly employee again in these outings especially if the employee balks at the assignment planned for the Day of Caring. And if she balked, find some work for her to do back at the office.

you mean the kind of respect that Trump has literally never voiced? Oh, so you have no respect for the Office Of The President? If you actually follow the words, the claim is that Trump has never demonstrated respect for the Office Of The President. Sure seems to be true. He has profaned it more than anyone in our history.

Respect is EARNED. trump has never come close to earning it. How do you respect a man who
mocks the disabled lies constantly stirs up racism and aligns himself with white nationalists insults those who don't agree with him and, in general, acts like a toddler thinks it's ok to grab women's crotches has spent 278 presidents' worth of salaries on golf www.politicususa.com/2019/08/17/cost-of-trump-golf-trips.html
And that's just the beginning of the ways he has earned DISrespect.
