Your liberal bias of "I am better than most voters especially Republican ones" is showing. Not any different than conservatives talking about all the people on welfare voting straight democrat to save their welfare checks without any idea of what is going on with politicians. It's my reason for using the term 'wizards of smart'. Blinded by ego is also a big part of it. Democrats just can't see past the next handout. We're helping people don'tcha know. Put up any map of the voting demographics. The liberal plantation is there for all to see. this is about as true as "Republicans can't see any colors other than white and green".

oh, and this "liberal plantation" trope has been an oxymoron since the Civil War.

Look at which states get the most food stamps and other federal handouts.
It's the deep red states being propped up by the taxes paid by the 'liberal' coasts.
I live in an extremely red, conservative and evangelical part of the US, where there is a lot of trash talking about 'those' people who live off food stamps, section 8, etc - and yet my little rural, 98% white county has the highest per capita use rate of food stamps, school lunch programs and head start programs.
Liberals may be more interested in looking out for their fellow Americans than conservatives, but conservatives don't hold back when it comes to using state and federal hand outs - they just do it while insisting it's 'owed' to them, and they aren't 'welfare queens.'
Ayn Rand was a welfare queen. no kidding. look it up.

"The left" as I stated, does not mean just presidents. In the United States after Reconstruction, the phrase "the Left" was used to describe those who supported trade unions, the civil rights movement and the anti-war movement. More recently in the United States, left-wing and right-wing have often been used as synonyms for Democratic and Republican,...en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left-wing_politics ... I have no issue with analysts on talk shows mouthing off. I have no issue with Party officials mouthing off. I have no issue with members of the House of Representatives mouthing off. US Senators I hold to higher standards. I have even higher expectations of a President. I think I know the answer, but do you mind saying WHY, bills?

US Senators I hold to higher standards. I have even higher expectations of a President. I think I know the answer, but do you mind saying WHY, bills? Analysts have no governmental power. Party officials are not governmental officials. Members of the House are representatives of "the people" of their district. If those people don't like them, they can be responsible for dumping them and electing someone they prefer. Senators are 1 of 100. I think they should represent the best for which our nation stands. The President of the United States of America is the face of our nation on the international scene. That person is someone who children should look up to and aspire to become. That person is someone who, through their example, inspire our citizens to be the best they can be. They are 1 of 1 but also, in the history of our nation, there has only been 45 human beings who have held that position. They are human just like the rest of us, but they choose and have been chosen to be something special. They should be something special.

She collected $11k in social security benefits. How does that make her a welfare queen (unless I am missing something that says she got food stamps, welfare benefits, section 8 housing, etc). We all pay into social security. I am also against a lot of liberal policies as I work hard to get ahead. If we become more of a socialist society with very high taxes and tons of benefits that take away the incentive to work, I will be chucking it and taking advantage and having a much easier life. If you can’t beat them, join them. I’m sure I’m not the only one with that attitude.

Consider that a hammer is only a minor improvement on the rock and humans have worked to develop more sophisticated tools. Of course those tools can require greater skill to use. But lacking any advanced skills, ... And there will be those who are impressed by the brute nature of such use. For far too long, the left has been used to southern gentlemen conservatives as politicians. Who they would mouth off to with zero respect, and get little response. Now, we have a mouthy New Yorker, with the Democratic party playbook in his back pocket, running his mouth like they do, as the Republican president. Good for him. The reason I considered voting for him, I was so tired of the gridlock the last 6 years of President Obama's term. Maybe he would be able to use his mouthy way. But you are right, nothing has really changed except conservatives turned into Democrats.

But you are right, nothing has really changed except conservatives turned into Democrats. I've thought about the gridlock problem recently as well. I remember a few decades ago when it was common for congressmen to 'work across the aisle.' Joe Liberman and John McCain did it all the time. Those compromised bills, amended to be palatable for both sides, seemed to get passed fairly regularly and without a lot of fuss.
Now, nothing gets done. Most of what Trump has done in office he's done by executive orders, since legislation is so hard to get passed now. Executive orders by one president can easily be reversed by the next. The only thing Trump has done that can't easily be undone is seating a bunch of conservative judges.
I'm not sure what has to happen to go back to the era when compromise was not only possible, it was something we aspired to. Now, both sides seem to only want to stand back and throw grenades at the other.
Obviously, having a less rancorous president would help, but won't be enough, I don't think. Not sure what it will take.

Actually, Step 1 is to get rid of Mitch McConnell. Trump will work with whoever to get something done that he can claim as a win. It is Mitch that has blocked everything. Once he is gone, we still have to go through a cultural change to encourage working together, but as long as we have a few key people there, it won't improve.

I keep hearing on here and TV how happy farmers are that Trump is taking such a hard line on trade. That's not what I read in the local papers. I read regularly about how Nebraska and Iowa are quite pissed off. They don't want hand outside which will likely end at some point. They want to be able to do their business like they have been. Clearly local sources are ran by liberal conspiracy theorists traveling both states to.find the handful of farmers who don't approve of Trump. Still not enough to turn Nebraska blue. They'd vote for Hilter with Satan as VP so long as the have an R behind their name. It could flip Iowa though if enough urban voters also get off their butts this time. I keep reading in local papers about how the Georgia farmers are still waiting on their money from hurricane Michael that went thru. It seems that this administration wouldn't release the funds. Supposedly earlier this year Congress finally passed a bill to get them their relief funds, but they still haven't gotten checks.
And this is being reported in conservative papers in a red state. Again, by the standards being set here, they are just waiting for their gov't handout & aren't helping themselves by pulling up their bootstraps & getting to it. (another disclaimer, *I* do NOT believe this to be true)
Does the Administration sign the checks? This is not a new law where the President signs the law into being. As most of us know the Federal givernment is veryslow when paying out funds from disasters when they have thousands of individual requests for benefits. Not making excuses, just how big government works.

"A few thousand?" Have you looked at the statistics or are you just stating what you hope is true?
My 98% white, very conservative rural county has more people per capita on food stamps and more kids on the free lunch program than the counties where the state's largest cities sit. And no, we are not near a military base, and senior citizens are not moving here by the millions. Just a poor rural area with few jobs, one that struggles to attract business.
There are plenty of poor rural white areas sucking up lots of government benefits. Most of the rural South looks like that. They get overlooked by the GOP because they tend to vote Republican, and Republicans can't possibly be part of the problems - just the freeloading Dems.

So where is the money for these social programs with "tons of benefits" coming from? The social programs fairy, I imagine. Certainly not the taxpayers, as they lounge around all day, according to you.

I wasn't being honest. I consider an absolute statement about parties an impossibility. My answer to VB that you're quoting, goes one step farther back.

... I have a niece who has a masters in education, ... ... You should familiarize yourself with our governing system. And what is your education/job experience that explains this little turd comment?I know it's not your premise that job/education has anything to do with it. The little turd posts it was answering, doesn't need that level of reference. This from my previous post is still applying. (this bolded) "The Bolded was hilarious.
I have a niece who has a masters in education, and after years in a classroom, she thought she could talk to everyone like her students.
I guess she was thinking she could direct the conversation of adults like a schoolroom.
Too funny."

I am much saddened to learn that perhaps only a few hundred of approximately 768,496 people living beneath the poverty level in Kentucky (one of those flyover states) are taking advantage of the government dime. Perhaps they have thriving 'cash only' economy? Perhaps they are finding some way to feed/clothe/provide healthcare to their impoverished old, disabled, and children (who didn't win the lotto when it came to parents or who suffered the misfortune of having a parent die) without the 'government dime'. Kentucky is the 5th poorest state. 4.468 million (2018) Kentucky population www.richmondregister.com/news/kentucky-poverty-rate-improving-still-among-worst-though/article_71a9218b-3928-5ae7-b5e9-ce138c96678d.htmlAccording to data released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau, 17.2 percent of Kentuckians lived in poverty in 2017, an improvement over the 18.5 percent state poverty rate in 2016. But that rate still leaves Kentucky the fifth poorest state in the United States. Who knew so few people who actually NEED the government dime bother to accept it (and then whine about other people who more than likely need it - do take it).

So Republicans in red states who are on welfare (GOP terms) are just "getting back their own money". But anyone taking welfare in a Blue state are leeches on the system.
talk about spin.
Not from me. (bolded) I only talk about handout programs in the general term, that they should only be used as a last resort, temporary safety net. Politics doesn't matter, unless it's used in a vote buying approach. Verifying the actual need is my main concern. You might want to re-read my post and what it said.

The Government shouldn't be forcing people to contribute money to something that the government then gives out to other people. Even with social security - people may get more money out of SS than they put into it. Especially those who live a really long time OR who are disabled OR who die and have young children (and a widowed spouse). I (and my mom) benefited from this as my dad died when I was 11yos. I strongly suspect we got more "benefit" then my dad paid into the system. I could cut Rand some slack - if she did not recieve more $$ than she put in to SS. IF she got more than she paid into it... well, then, she's a Welfare Queen.

that is what dj talks about.
you talk about "a few thousand people in flyover states". dj talks about tens of millions of people in all (50) states.
could you at least TRY to be truthful once in a while when talking about me?

Except I will rally against a lot of things but in the end, if the very progressive agenda is passed I will take advantage of everything and anything I can. Call it my own protest. I already paid for my own college and a good chunk of my daughters (that not covered by scholarships or her loans - which she has already paid 90% of them off). If they want to make that free for others (or waive all student loan debt), I will have paid for my own and now taxes will be used to pay for others that do not want to pay for their own. I will be sure to make sure I get what I can out of the system. I'm honestly at the point where I just don't care anymore. if the left wants to turn this into a nation of takers, I'm all in. And I call lots of people "welfare queens", without regard for the color of their skin. If you have kids that you cannot support and you live on welfare, you are a welfare queen. Or are you saying that only black women live on welfare? Because I was raised by a welfare queen...and she was white!

So, are you claiming that people in the Nordic countries, people in Canada, and people in other first world countries don't work because the incentive isn't there? So where is the money for these social programs with "tons of benefits" coming from? The social programs fairy, I imagine. Certainly not the taxpayers, as they lounge around all day, according to you. I am not speaking for anyone other than me. I am saying that if my incentive to work is taken away (If I can live a nice life on the back of the taxpayers) then I will not be working any longer. I am not self-motivated. My motivation comes from wanting a nice life. If everyone is getting everything for free, fuck it, I'm out.

I'm against national health insurance. But if the will of the people is to go that route, I will take full advantage of it. I work for health insurance and to pad my retirement. If that will now be covered by the taxpayers, I will be quitting and letting the rest of the suckers pay for me. Of course, they could change the tax code to make it so that I would still have decent income not shielded by depreciation, but if not, I will have very good cashflow but low income...think of the government bennies I could get! All joking aside...I think I will vote for the most progressive, ridiculous policies because it will only benefit me in the end.

Yeh, dj talks about a few thousand in flyover states as living on the government dime while we see tens of thousands doing it in the major metropolitan city areas, as well he neglects the fact that senoir citizens by the millions have movd to warmer climes in these states affecting the government payout numbers as well as all the military bases with their payrolls focused in backwater areas. no, dj talks about the fact that more white people are on welfare than people of color. dj talks about the fact that the blue states contribute more to the system than the red states. dj talks about people who made a career about not sucking on guv-teat sucking from guv-teat. dj talks about certain individuals bilking contractors out of millions through the federal bankruptcy court, but deriding millions who get food assistance because of the fact that their wages have not kept up with COL since 1973.
that is what dj talks about.
you talk about "a few thousand people in flyover states". dj talks about tens of millions of people in all (50) states.
could you at least TRY to be truthful once in a while when talking about me?
I hate when people throw around the "more white people" do whatever....because unless you break it down to % of population, it is a ridiculous thing to say. I see things like "60% of whites do this so they are worse", while ignoring the fact that whites make up close to 80% of the population (or at least they did...that is dropping each year).

she also collected medicare, which she also paid into.
my point is this: this term is used almost exclusively to refer to people of color. edit: and, secondarily, Rand railed against the guv-teat for half a century. that makes her UNIQUELY hypocritical taking EVEN A DIME from it.
#racist
So health insurance and education are going to create a nation of takers that will never work again? I'm really not understanding where you are coming from on this. If we get universal healthcare, I won't quit my job because I will still have a mortgage and bills to pay. But I will definitely give more thought to working for myself, and not being tied to a giant corporation any longer. I don't see why that is so bad.
Sure, you will be able to quit working because you have assets that will help you live without a regular job, but most people don't have that. You've obviously worked hard for what you have, and if universal healthcare allows you to finally quit the rat race instead of continuing to keep paying for others, I would think that would make you happy. I'm just confused.
Universal healthcare will give a lot of higher income people the ability to retire early. I certainly don't want to work for another 25 years!
