Back to ex-Presidential behavior, on a James Gordon clip, James said Trump had extended Secret Service protection to his kids before he left DC. I don't really understand what that means. On a related note, it should become policy that his secret service detail does not stay at his properties.

I think what it means is usually Secret Service protection for not the ex-President's nuclear family stops after the person is no longer President. In other words, Ivanka & Jared, Eric & his wife, Don Jr, Tiffany should have lost Secret Service protection effective Noon 1/20. Trump did something to make sure that did not happen.

Can he arbitrarily do that? Isn't that laid out in your constitution or some law or something?

When I saw it, my thought was that she changed into a loose, flowy dress and low shoes because she can finally take off the more formal DC clothes and enjoy living in a place we’re most people just get to vacation. I think she’s just very pleased not to be First Lady anymore. I don’t care what party you’re in, you’re going to get a lot of snarky shit. The worst part was that she never signed up for it. "... for better or worse ..." Yeah but twelve years ago when they got married, would you have guessed Trump could one day be president? Me neither - and I’m guessing Melania didn’t either.

He signed an executive order that all his kids and three people who served at the WH would continue to get secret service coverage at tax payer expense. Normally only the president, his spouse and any kinds under 16 get that coverage. Can’t remember if it was for six months or a year. Other presidents have done that for collage age kids but not for three grown ass kids with spouses and kids of their own - and who travel a lot. That will cost the taxpayers some bucks.

Interesting article from a little over a year ago. www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/trump-s-wedding-melania-was-15-years-ago-it-explains-ncna112023615 years ago today, a “magical merger” took place which, with the wisdom of hindsight, helps explain much of our current cultural moment in 2020. It was a celebration of excess and elitism — and included a guest list of so many who wouldn’t be caught in the same room with Trump today. But many people in that room of reportedly 450 helped enable the rise of Trump, even if they didn’t realize quite how high he would go. Looking back at the guest list provides some interesting insight — both for those who hate Trump, and those who love him.

I don't think this says anything at all about Melania as a person, its just a strange thing for her to wear. Maybe she's using it as a statement of something, but who the hell knows what?

"... for better or worse ..." Yeah but twelve years ago when they got married, would you have guessed Trump could one day be president? Me neither - and I’m guessing Melania didn’t either. I wouldn't have guessed he would have succeeded, but she's been up close and personal with him for awhile. I think because she has resting unhappy face many assume things including she's going to divorce the money train. He didn't make the splash he did in 2015, but he did flirt with the Presidency before so it would have been reasonable for her to expect he would try again. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_career_of_Donald_TrumpIn 1999, Trump filed an exploratory committee to seek the nomination of the Reform Party for the 2000 presidential election.[6][7] A July 1999 poll matching him against likely Republican nominee George W. Bush and likely Democratic nominee Al Gore showed Trump with seven percent support.[8] Trump eventually dropped out of the race, but still went on to win the Reform Party primaries in California and Michigan.[7][9] After his run, he left the party due to the involvement of David Duke, Pat Buchanan, and Lenora Fulani.[6] He also considered running for president in 2004.[10] In 2008, he endorsed Republican John McCain for president.[11]
2012 presidential speculation
Trump speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference, February 2011
Trump publicly speculated about running for president in the 2012 election, and made his first speaking appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in February 2011. The speech is credited for helping kick-start his political career within the Republican Party.[12]
On May 16, 2011, Trump announced he would not run for president in the 2012 election.[13] In February 2012, Trump endorsed Mitt Romney for president.[14]
Trump's presidential ambitions were generally not taken seriously at the time.

Deutchebank is considering seizing Trump properties, plus he has another 400 million in personal loans coming due in the next few years. She may not be a politically-canny person but I think she’s a money-canny person.

I think she's money canny as you put it, but won't all those outstanding debts be used to reduce a settlement? I don't think she'll divorce him since he always seems to bounce back, but the future is TBD. If she files for divorce he will take it personally and it will be ugly. She just watched her husband put Pence's life at risk for not following his wishes and doing something illegal. I'd be afraid to divorce him now. He'd be especially vicious and public.

When I first saw the dress, it looked like a sweater dress. It looks heavy. Watching her walk, it doesn't seem "flowy" as I would think a Florida vacation dress would dictate. Apparently the dress was "wool silk" - I am not sure how heavy, or light, or flowy or strict that is.
As far as secret service....I am cool with all of those assholes being protected and here is why....They are leaving as "controversial" figures. Their legacy is carrying a lot of baggage, and we all feel free to criticize them openly, as we should. If any one of them gets assassinated (or even beat up) it will be a huge thing. It will be in the news. The event will be held against every non-Trumper forever, and no matter how many times it will be condemned, it will be marketed as a happy moment for anyone that didn't like Trump. They will become martyrs. It will increase the devotion among fans, but leave their detractors in a place of having to deal with a tricky minefield to speak critically of his administration. I want that whole family to fade out naturally, and safe from physical harm. No good can come from violence against them, and I am okay with the taxpayers footing that bill for six months. (After that, they can fundraiser from their people to pay for protection).

But like I said, don't have them staying at any Trump properties.
Is it only for six months?

Yes. If they want continued protection after that, Biden would have to sign off.

That’s true When he found out Marla was having sex with one of the security guys he not only bounced her out of the house right away, he’s kind of ignored their daughter, too. I guess I had assumed a divorce would look at his current financial status and award Melania a slice of it, based on the prenup - but if she holds out for several years, and his business sinks under the weight of his debts, would there be anything for her to claim? I guess I don’t know how the bankruptcy and divorce laws work enough to know who would get first dibs on greatly reduced marital assets. And I would imagine Trump would employ the best divorce lawyers to make sure she walks away with the least amount possible - maybe she is better off waiting it out.

I suspect they haven't shared a bedroom in a decade. I suspect they spent little private time together in the past (as in maybe lived in the same house but didn't really talk to one another/avoided one another - which should be easy to do in large house/penthouse/what ever). I suspect Melania spent more time in whatever accomodations her parents were housed in. I doubt she and trump spent much private time together while trump was President. With that kind of history - I would speculate that Melania (and her parents) can tough out the upcoming few years until trump ages into being less active or becomes ill. It appears he's very over weight and he's 74. I doubt he's gonna be 'sharp as a tack' at 84. I think rather than divorce Melania will just wait for nature to take it's course. She doesn't have to spend much time with him. I wouldn't be surprised if she has her own 'money' (or maybe it's in her parent's names?) that's separate from trump's - so even if trump crashes and burns - she and her parents will be comfortable. It appears she has her own lawyers and is money savvy.

Hell, I can't stand being around EX2 once a year, and it has been 30 years since we divorced. Can you imagine sticking it out with him, then finding out in the end, he was penniless, or owed money? That would REALLY suck!

Looks like Melania may need to have her financial house in order sooner rather than later. The rats are deserting the Club: Former President Donald Trump's return to his glitzy Florida golf resort - Mar-a-Lago - has reportedly not been met with fanfare by the club's wealthy members.
Mar-a-Lago's mood is "dispirited," and people are canceling their memberships, the author of a book on the resort told MSNBC.
"I've talked to a bunch of people the last couple of days," Laurence Leamer told the cable channel. "A lot of people have quit Mar-a-Lago."
Can't really blame them. Why would you pay $200K a year to finance his impeachment defense, his kids' real estate buying spree and Baron's private school?
Don Jr. and the GF are buying two side-by-side homes about five miles from me, in an exclusive gated community. Neighbors there not happy, either. Six kids between them (five his, one hers) and a looming investigation involving him and the capitol riots and fraudulent real estate deals, plus an investigation of her sexually harassing former coworkers at Fox News. I hope the lot of them are dragged to court, kicking and screaming the whole way. The only real estate that should be waiting for them is a set of jail cells in a single wing. Now there is something I could support -- naming a jail after the family. A new version of Trump Tower, if you will. Trump Tower -- The High-Security Sequel.

According to their own reporting that clan is stinking rich so they can well afford to pay for their own security tbemselves.

Side by side houses? Seems a little "Big Love" to me.

Side by side houses? Seems a little "Big Love" to me. I had not thought of it that way....Jr's ex lives in a country club community nearby, so I doubt she'd move in next door. Maybe one house for the lovebirds and one for the kiddoes? Also possible that both houses are tear-downs and they build one big hideous structure. Because, yanno, two egos that big need a whole lotta space.
