trump Administration Weakens Protections for Endangered SpeciesWASHINGTON — The Trump administration on Monday announced that it would change the way the Endangered Species Act is applied, significantly weakening the nation’s bedrock conservation law credited with rescuing the bald eagle, the grizzly bear and the American alligator from extinction. The changes could clear the way for new mining, oil and gas drilling, and development in areas where protected species live. The new rules will make it harder to consider the effects of climate change on wildlife when deciding whether a given species warrants protection. They would most likely shrink critical habitats and, for the first time, allow economic factors to be taken into account when making determinations. “The best way to uphold the Endangered Species Act is to do everything we can to ensure it remains effective in achieving its ultimate goal — recovery of our rarest species,” Interior Secretary David Bernhardt said in a statement Monday. “The Act’s effectiveness rests on clear, consistent and efficient implementation.” Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said in a statement the finalized revisions “fit squarely within the president’s mandate of easing the regulatory burden on the American public, without sacrificing our species’ protection and recovery goals.” Environmental groups denounced the changes as a disaster for imperiled wildlife at a time when the United Nations has warned that human pressures are poised to drive one million species into extinction and that protecting land and biodiversity is critical to keep greenhouse gas emissions in check. Trump Administration Weakens Protections for Endangered SpeciesBig business wins again. Sad day for the U.S.

"trump Administration Weakens Protections for Endangered Species"
Are you surprised? I'm not. He's the asshole who made elephant trophies legal again. He hates the environment and hates wildlife. Wildlife has no money.

Heartily wishing WORM could be put on the endangered species list. Whiny Old Racist Moron? If so I see no reason to add WORM to the endangered species list → they are crawling out from under the rocks they have been hiding under at an accelerating rate of speed. I fear there are more than enough of them to last this world multiple life times...

Of course he did. What the hell else are you going to shoot with your AR15s that you bought without a background check?

Let's weaken all protections for DT & his entire family...see how well that goes?
And while I'm at it...why hasn't any of DT's places been raided by ICE...like places where his company has construction going on?

Compare this to Australia - For much of that time, the penguins lived among the residents of a housing development, mostly modest vacation homes, in tight proximity to cars and pets, as well as ravenous foxes. The penguins’ numbers fell precipitously. But in 1985, the state government took an extraordinary step: It decided to buy every piece of property on the Summerland Peninsula and return the land to the penguins. The process was completed in 2010.The birds are now thriving. There are about 31,000 breeding penguins on the peninsula, up from 12,000 in the 1980s. Phillip Island Nature Parks is the most popular wildlife tourist destination in the state of Victoria, drawing 740,000 visitors in 2018.
