Okay, maybe it is a rightwing conspiracy............or not.......from released FBI interview records.
Nellie Ohr wrote a Steele Dossier. Steele may have been a part of it, but Nellie wrote a dossier on Manafort and may have used Steele's name. Steele has now met with the FBI trying to backtrack his involment of the dossier.
It seems Glen Simpson (REMEMBER HIM?) had an article in the WSJ  twelve years ago in  2007 involving Russia, Manafort, and others which named the same characters as in the now Steele Dossier.
How could this article not been found by anyone in the last three years>
After the FBI said after they deemed Steele as a unreliable source Bruce Ohr kept in contact using Steele behind the scenes via what's up app.

You catch this? Glenn Simpson was talking directly to Victoria Nuland at the State Dept. during the 2016 campaign, tying Hillary Clinton closer to the conspiracy,according to just-released FBI agent Joseph Pientka's 302 summaries of interviews with Bruce Ohr uncovered by Judicial Watch.

This reminds me about the 'satanic panic' era when every kid who came to school with a Beetlejuice backpack must in league with the devil, and therefore should be hanged at dawn.

Nellie Ohr did NOT write the Steele Dossier. She passed along information that Steele was giving her to the FBI.

As for Ohr causing the FBI to issue a FISA warrant through false claims:

“These new Bruce Ohr FBI 302s show an unprecedented and irregular effort by the FBI, DOJ, and State Department to dig up dirt on President Trump using the conflicted Bruce Ohr, his wife, and the Clinton/DNC spies at Fusion GPS,” said Tom Fitton of Judicial Watch, the conservative group who obtained the records through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit. “The FISA courts weren’t informed of this corrupted process when they were asked to approve and reapprove extraordinary spy warrants targeting President Trump.”

However, the first interview with Ohr — at least in the files released Thursday — was more than a month after the FBI asked a judge to approve surveillance on Page on October 21, 2016.

That application makes clear that the FBI was already dealing with Steele directly and includes a cautionary footnote disclosing that “a U.S.-based law firm” hired Fusion’s owner Glenn Simpson to conduct research on Trump. (Neither Steele, Simpson or Trump were mentioned by name.)

I find it laugh out loud funny that the far right is tying itself into knots to try to link Obama and Clinton to a legal opposition research investigation initially started by a GOP primary opponent of Trump's, and then handed off to Hillary's campaign once the GOP primary was done, but at the same time thinks it's fine that Trump asked for Russia to find Hillary's lost emails for him at a rally - and within 24 hours of that rally, Russia had hacked into the Dem email system.

I know, I know "Obama/Hillary used the DOJ to illegally spy on the Trump campaign!"  - is the far right talking point, but how does that compare to Trump kicking out the head of the DOJ and replacing him with a Trump toady who lied about the Mueller report findings to try to lull the public into overlooking 10 clear instances of Trump obstruction spelled out in the report?
