El Paso hospital patients declined to meet DT

A spokesperson for University Medical Center in El Paso, Texas, said none of the eight patients currently being treated for injuries from last weekend's mass shooting agreed to meet with President Trump during his visit Wednesday, according to The Washington Post.



"This is a very sensitive time in their lives. Some of them said they didn't want to meet with the president, some of them didn't want any visitors," UMC spokesman Ryan Mielke told the newspaper, although he added that two already-discharged victims returned to the hospital to meet with Trump.



The White House has touted what it said was a warm reception for the president Wednesday in both El Paso and Dayton, Ohio, the sites of a pair of mass shootings last weekend that left more than 30 dead and dozens injured.



"The love, respect & enthusiasm were there for all to see," Trump tweeted Wednesday evening. He said "the Fake News worked overtime trying to disparage me and the two trips."

well, yeah, of course, but I don't think I could lift him.   Especially after being shot.    But I'm sure I could make myself vomit on command in this case.

I did read that ICE was present at the scene and there were some allegations of them "checking papers" but I don't know if that's true.  I could see them being there for crowd control/first responder help.  If they were checking papers, they are subhuman.

Snopes looked into the claim ICE was at the Walmart in El Paso checking papers and stated it was not true. Horrible if ICE actually would have done it.

ETA: ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) were at the Walmart but their agents were aiding the police. But no checking of papers.

I am under the opinion that ICE and the CBP were involved during the opening 'minutes' of the shootings and the pandemonium at the scene. I don't believe they were involved once the pros like the FBI arrived.

ICE and CPB often help here with emergencies and traffic incidents that have nothing to do with them.  They often help with crowd control, directing traffic and first aid.   They also provide backup when someone gets unruly and there aren't enough troopers/sheriffs immediately in the area.    I don't see anything wrong with them stepping in to help.  

**However, I live in a rural area where there a limited paid local police, most of the firefighters and EMT's are volunteer, and there is a huge geographical area for the state police and sheriffs to cover.  YMMV.

so how did a little girl become a victim?

It's also been pointed out that of the 9 victims still in the hospital in El Paso, NONE agreed to meet with him.  So the 2 that did meet with him had already been released from the hospital, they were brought back in, dressed up in hospital gowns for his photo op/campaign video shoot.

Trump said he wasn't allowing any media in with him because it was 'all about the victims.'

Evidently, it was all having the WH photographer snap staged photos with appropriately grateful victims.
