2 Ontario, Quebec water parks change rule, allow women to go topless Two popular water parks in Ontario and Quebec have quietly changed the rules when it comes to what women can wear, or in this case, not wear when on the premises. Women — and men, for that matter — are now allowed to go topless at both the Village Vacances Valcartier (VVV) near Quebec City and the Calypso Theme Waterpark in eastern Ontario. globalnews.ca/news/5659518/ontario-quebec-water-park-topless-rule-change/

There's not a whole lot of issues that I get worked up about, but this one really bugs me. I hike a lot. It's frigging hot out. And I see all these men going shirtless. I'm just as hot and sweaty as they are, but I have two additional layers on (sports bra and tank). Would I go topless if I could? Probably not, and mostly because I don't like attracting attention to myself. If other women were topless though? Yeah, I probably would, at lease in certain situations. But I don't like that I don't have the option if I do want to go topless. I absolutely believe that either everyone should be able to go topless or no one can. No more of this "men have decided women's breasts are only for sexual use, so they aren't allowed to be shown in public" crap.

I'm 66 and fluctuate between an A cup and a B cup. "The girls" have almost zero sag. I found out around age 50 that if I went for more than an hour or two without a bra, I started getting pains in the sides of my breasts- as if the ligaments holding them up were being stretched. So, now if I'm upright I'm wearing a bra. I don't want to look like those women in National Geographic who have never worn bras.
Anyway- I'd certainly sunbathe topless on a nude beach (with lots of sunscreen). I would not emulate the woman I once saw on a beach n Barcelona, playing ping-pong topless. Ouch.

I used to wear a sheer bra under my tee shirt while playing golf and attracted the WRONG attention.
I would not go topless. I'm of the age where I'd dress behind the shower curtain, so I didn't scare the young women on what was coming their way even though they say never happen to them!

If men who are a way bigger cup size than me can go topless and not be considered lewd then I should be able to.

But what your chest looks like shouldn't matter. Do you think men care that women REALLY DO NOT want to see their old saggy man-boobs? They can go shirtless regardless.

On an intellectual level I get this. As a male who came through puberty in the Playboy era, I am thinking, "Oh goody, another opportunity to get beat up because of the way I was socialized as young boy."

You mean....someone might see boobs? Those things that everyone has? That is atrocious. We can't let people see boobs, well at least not lady boobs. Man boobs are different because they never lactate. So, I guess we are talking only about a random body part that one half of the humans who have ever walked the earth since the beginning of time have. Also, we shouldn't talk about periods. That is a rare thing, it only happens to half of the people who have ever walked the earth 500 times or so in their life. They should keep that private.

... Also, we shouldn't talk about periods. ... What are situations in which you feel this is a topic that is reasonable to talk about that you feel constrained from talking about it?

My boobs will never, ever see the sun.
I am fair and my arms and legs will tan lightly. But my boobs have never seen the sun, and the one time I considered going topless on a beach in Greece, I passed a woman whose boobs were burnt a bright red. It looked painful enough that....nope, top is going to stay on.
Then about 8 years ago, my research meeting was in Miami. I put on my suit, which was cut lower than any other I have owned in my life. I was on the beach 20 minutes and the area that had never seen sun was painfully red. I had to grit my teeth to wear a bra, and the minute I got out of the meeting, the bra got ditched. It should not be painful to wear clothes!
Not worth it for me, but I will be seeing it in Turkey next week.

The novelty wears off pretty quickly. Look at Europe. Nobody cares any more. Topless women on beaches, in pools, in ads on the bus, etc. In any case, did you ever swim topless? It feels DIVINE! Zero gravity on your boobies.

Meh, my insatiable children who nursed for 2 years each ruined my breasts. I've considered a breast lift, but I'm afraid of tempting fate with an elective surgery done under general anesthesia...
So, I'll keep wearing my underwire tankini tops. The rest of you are free to roam the earth unencumbered.

Well, I'm not a young woman. My breasts are no longer beautiful. If you don't like their appearance, don't look. I'm not going to bind myself in hot fabric and underwires for your benefit.

I find this a post that suggests the following questions: What is it that makes breasts "beautiful"? Is there a proper role for gender in making that determination? If someone does find particular breasts beautiful, is it okay for them to look at them?

Why are we even discussing what women's breasts look like? Who cares? Go to any pool or beach - most men aren't wearing a shirt, they come in all shapes and sizes, and no one gives it another thought. My issue really is that it should be equal - either everyone has the option or no one does. Pants, I feel like you'd have some thoughts on this subject.

If my breasts offend you, too freaking bad. I like having the option to sunbathe or swim topless.

What is it that makes breasts "beautiful"?
Youth, generally. The even skin tones and the general fitness associated with youth also contribute to the beauty. I'm sure that the self-confidence that comes with knowing that you are considered beautiful adds to the attractiveness. Someone who isn't a youthful beauty can still amaze if they carry themselves with enough confidence.
Is there a proper role for gender in making that determination?
Did I mention gender? Shirtless guys can also take my breath away, although I'm embarrassed to admit how strongly my taste skews bishi. Young people are beautiful to look at. Notice how I didn't say anything about what can come out of their mouths or how they treat others?
If someone does find particular breasts beautiful, is it okay for them to look at them? Only discretely. Have I ever mentioned how painful the sideways scope can be while wearing multi-focal lenses for the first time? It was so painful and the pain so impossible to disguise, that I may have stopped looking altogether.
FWIW, I'm absolutely shocked by how much what fascinates me on the beach has changed as I grew older. As a kid, I was fascinated by scars and tattoos and completely indifferent to the shape of someone's body or their unmarked skin. Sometimes I wish that I regain that outlook.
I fear that I will regret this post.

Oops. I was clear as mud. My need for underwrites is for comfort, not fashion. I don’t find swinging breasts comfortable. So, I’ll wear a top to keep them still. As I said, others are free to fly unemcumbered.

I think it is rude for those really ugly men to have their shirts off.

My thoughts are that making laws/rules that apply differently to one sex than the other are blatantly, inherently discriminatory and thus illegal. It's not complicated! However the the only place I'd ever want to go topless is a pool or beach. Because hiking tits out sounds like a jiggly nightmare to me. But, I would fight for your right to do so if you so choose!

No more of this "men have decided women's breasts are only for sexual use, so they aren't allowed to be shown in public" crap. Yep, same for everyone is fair in my eyes, too. When DS2 and 4 were in XC, on really nice days some of the guys had a saying, "Sun's out, guns out" and most would do their canal run w/o shirts. Some of the girls would want to skip their t-shirts and run with their sports bras (so not even topless like the guys). Coach objected, and insisted the guys couldn't go shirtless, wasn't appropriate, EVERYONE had to wear a shirt. But the shirt rule never came about until the girls actually considered running with a sports bra exposed. A subset of the boys still felt they should be able to run shirtless, and would ditch their shirts once they were out of sight of campus. Coach threatened them with vests he said they should wear if they removed shirts on a run. Those guys just didn't get the equality issue. They are used to running w/o shirts, they should always be able to do it, but never consider that the girls don't have that option.

Now, would I go topless on the beach or at a water park?
Personally, never, I'm super fair skinned and burn easily. I've also apparently become allergic to the sun - I get itchy, red, blotchy, swollen skin after a time in the sun, wherever I'm exposed. I can develop a bit of tolerance to the sun, a tiny bit at a time, but it fades quickly, so every year I have to limit my sun exposure as soon as I begin to feel itchy (even just on my always exposed face when shoveling snow in March!). Switching from long sleeves to short sleeves in early summer takes time to adjust to. Scoop necks expose more new skin, etc. Using sunscreen blocks the effect, but invariably I miss some tiny patches that I only notice once the allergy kicks in.
So, exposing never before exposed new skin to the sun? Nope, I'd last 5 minutes, tops. I wear long sleeved rash guards to swim in.
A related issue that bugs me to no end is the recent backlash against breastfeeding. The people who want breastfeeding moms to hide away (especially in bathrooms!) while feeding their babies are ridiculous. That's what breasts are intended for, it's not indecent. Some "clothed" people are more exposed than most breastfeeding moms who can keep covered, but even if a mom has no problem being uncovered, so what? We ALL know what a breast looks like. Feeding a baby is normal. Get over it.

I always think of my niece when the topic of breastfeeding comes up. One time at a family gathering she just took off her shirt in front of everyone to breastfeed her daughter. My MIL was a little shocked “you just let them hang out there?!” She said “yep, that’s what they are for”. Still makes me laugh, she was right and she didn’t care what anyone else thought...

Never had an issue with topless women in European countries since the late 70's. The US is behind the times with breasts.
