DH took his under-900-mile VW in AGAIN because (1) the passenger side door lock quit working when they replaced the window gasket last month and (2) the driver side window is making a weird squeal when raised and lowered. He called to check on the progress and they had to order a part. He told the tech that the car has to be ready by 2 pm tomorrow because he has an appointment. The tech asked, "What's your appointment?" DH, bless his little heart, actually told the fool it was none of his business. We find all too often that service personnel have an incredible bias against seniors and display a strong attitude that "y'all have nothing to do". Our FORMER plumber actually gave me that excuse when he no-showed a 4-hour window, "Well, I know you're retired." You should see the Google review he got!
Appointment are appointments and time is time. The older I get, the more valuable mine is to me whether I get a paycheck or not.

I feel your pain. I actually had a service person tell me he wanted to speak to my husband. I told him he was dead. And no I am divorced but I made him feel like dirt and I enjoyed it. Also told him I would find someone else. He tried to make amends - not going to happen.

I am the person the car service people have to deal with. They treat me unprofessionally, they don't get our business ever again. If I have to hire service people to come do work at the house, they treat me disrespectfully, they will not be invited back. Life is too short, and there are too many people out there willing to do the work on time for a fair price. Nobody has to put up with bad behavior from service people. I would lose my job immediately if I treated a client poorly whether they deserved it or not. You just don't do that.

I get that a lot as well, because I run errands in the mid-afternoon, during my lunch hour. People see my mostly-silver hair and assume I am retired and have all the time in the world. I walked out of a very good gourmet grocery store for good yesterday because of a lack of customer service -- apparently, I had all day to wait for someone to come and help me with something. I like their products, but I am never going back. I get patronized a lot by people who assume older women are feeble, weak, hard of hearing and stupid. Got news for you, kiddo....this old lady has 16 triathlons, over 100 road races, 40 swim meets (so far) and works out 6 days a week. She also takes care of her own car and lawn work. Challenge me and my attitude will be up your ass. I don't turn the other cheek any more....I give yours a whuppin'.
