Some cities have been telling illegals that ICE can't break your door down and come into your house, so if you stay inside and don't answer the door, they can't pick you up.

So I guess they're stockpiling things and hiding a day early.

Which makes me wonder why Trump announced he would do it at all, unless this is just a big publicity stunt on Trump's part.

It's most definitely a publicity stunt IMO.

I know a restaurant owner who hired a search firm to hire immigrants to work in his business.  The business was very popular.  Then ICE showed up.  He was beside himself because he trusted the search firm but was on the hook for hiring illegals.  I never heard how it worked out for him.  I do know the restaurant now only does catering.  He opened a beer and brats place across the street from his hamburger bar.
