Am I the only one who doesn't want to wear clothes 30+ times? I mean, most of my everyday wardrobe I do, but it depresses me wearing the same clothes every week for half the year, let alone season after season.

Right now I'm wearing a casual summer top which I remember wearing in Norway - in 1994. I gained weight after that and this top, along with some other favorite clothes, were put in a box in the back of my closet for that day when I would lose weight and be able to wear it again. And I did!!! So I am. I'm wearing a T-shirt which says "Montreal International Jazz Festival 1980."

I get tired of wearing the same clothes to work all the time. I've been shopping a lot lately for new work clothes so that finding something I want to wear is easier in the morning. I really hate having to dress up for work everyday (except Friday), even though the requirement isn't all that dressy. I just got back from a shopping trip with my DH. I barely found anything that I liked and looked good on me. I did get a sweater on clearance at Old Navy for $4. At that price, I'll take disposable.

www.newsweek.com/2016/09/09/old-clothes-fashion-waste-crisis-494824.htmlWhen natural fibers, like cotton, linen and silk, or semi-synthetic fibers created from plant-based cellulose, like rayon, Tencel and modal, are buried in a landfill, in one sense they act like food waste, producing the potent greenhouse gas methane as they degrade. But unlike banana peels, you can't compost old clothes, even if they're made of natural materials. "Natural fibers go through a lot of unnatural processes on their way to becoming clothing," says Jason Kibbey, CEO of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition. "They've been bleached, dyed, printed on, scoured in chemical baths." Those chemicals can leach from the textiles and—in improperly sealed landfills—into groundwater. Burning the items in incinerators can release those toxins into the air. Meanwhile, synthetic fibers, like polyester, nylon and acrylic, have the same environmental drawbacks, and because they are essentially a type of plastic made from petroleum, they will take hundreds of years, if not a thousand, to biodegrade. Despite these ugly statistics, Americans are blithely trashing more clothes than ever. In less than 20 years, the volume of clothing Americans toss each year has doubled from 7 million to 14 million tons, or an astounding 80 pounds per person. The EPA estimates that diverting all of those often-toxic trashed textiles into a recycling program would be the environmental equivalent of taking 7.3 million cars and their carbon dioxide emissions off the road.

Buy good-quality clothing you'll wear for a long time. Fast fashion is poisoning the environment.

I'm another person with no fashion sense and I really don't care if I wear the same thing every day as long as it's clean. The clothes I wear don't depress me (except when they no longer fit).

Like I said one day, I counted at least 120 tops upstairs, probably 60 pair of jeans up here, then there are all the clothes racks in the basement for all of us. I went down and got 3 sleeveless tops, they still had price tags on them to wear its so hot. I haven't really been clothes shopping since Macys left. Last year and year before I picked up clothing at Pennys, some of the sports wear items, but now I don't really like their stuff either. Retail has lost a lot of my dollars which isn't a bad thing. I don't need to buy or actually sew anything for some time to come. I will be making me some pajamas though. As long as I don't gain, I'm ok, can always make smaller, bigger, not very likely. And DD has a lot too, as does hubs, so we are good.

The only time wearing something over and over again depresses me is when it’s something I shouldn’t have bought in the first place or when I outgrow something.

I would say at least 95%, I keep a very lean wardrobe that I rotate every 4 years.

I dropped 47 pounds since last Thanksgiving. I am a packrat though, so I still have the clothes from 10 years ago that fit.

I wear t-shirts and shorts/leggings most every day. The t-shirt I have on has some holes in it and is at least 10 years old. I have 5 or 6 others as well.
But, I am painting my house so this batch of old knock-around-the-house shirts will be turned into rags by the time I am ready to move in the spring.
My shorts were purchased last fall on the men's clearance rack at WalMart and I paid $2 for them. I bought 5 pairs and they have held up really well.
One of the nice things about not caring about fashion and working from home is I can live with a few t-shirts and some shorts/pants. I have a couple "nicer" outfits I wear when I leave home.
I'd estimate I spend about $50 a year on clothing and that includes shoes. When the money just isn't in your budget, you use what you have until it wears out.

Having added a new part-time job has allowed me to wear MORE of my clothes nowadays. In most cases, I'm too large for WHBM clothes or, in the case of the color items that fit, I could wear for only the short period that color was being featured in store. At the new job, my clothes just need to *look* like they came from the store so that gives me many more options. I got rid of most of my black clothes because, other than trousers, I hate wearing black, especially near my face. It's so dreary. I much prefer jewel tones: emerald, ruby, sapphire...

The people at the gym probably think I never wash my shorts because I have 2 pairs each of 2 styles and that's what I wear when I work out. Every day. With one of the freebie T-shirts. Why would I need to go out and buy LuLemon just to look good in the gym?

Yes, I think I do wear items at least 30 times but I also go through and purge stuff once or twice a year. Generally, most of what gets purged is at least 3 years old. I usually shop 2 times per year (once in the fall and once in the spring). Holding onto stuff for a while keeps a lot of clothes in rotation so I don't feel like I am wearing the same thing over and over.
I do have a couple of dresses in my closet that are around 15 years old. One is a Hawaiian dress. It probably hasn't even been worn 10 times. Off hand, I know I wore it twice in South Padre (two different trips), once in Hawaii, and on a Caribbean Cruise. Seems like I recall maybe wearing it to a party many moons ago that was beach themed. Every time I wear it I get compliments. It is extremely cute but really only works for certain places or events. It is pretty classic in that it doesn't seem to go out of fashion because it is so "specialized" (for lack of a better word). I don't see me purging it from my closet any time soon. My guess is that it will go with me on my next trip to Hawaii.

I retired this spring so the khaki pants and long or short sleeve blouses worn to work haven't seen much daylight. I have a small wardrobe so things get worn often. As it's summer my bathing suits get the most wear for training in the 50m outdoor pool and relaxing at the neighbors "pool club"(above ground pool). I buy them from swimoutlet.com and as I swim a lot of my suits wear out within 9 months or so. 3 training suits and 2 regular suits. I have a 3 pairs of goretex like shorts for working outside and then 4 pairs of khaki Ann Taylor and Talbot's shorts for leaving the house. and one Adidas skort....quite fun. Probably about 12 sleeveless and t shirts and that does it. For riding I've been wearing Levi's instead of my riding tights. I have two collared/sleeved shirts to wear for riding so I'm a bit protected from the sun. These are getting a lot of wear as they always have.

I have plenty of variety because I buy well-made clothes and keep them till they are no longer wearable. I've also stayed the same size over the years. Last week I went to a funeral. I wore a black blazer that I'd had made to measure during my working years. It's a work of art- lightweight Australian wool with a wonderful silky texture, fits perfectly. I realized I'd also worn it to my mother's funeral and to DH's, but it's a pleasure to put on. Sometimes something sits in the back of the closet for a few years and then I bring it back into my wardrobe again. Not depressing at all.

I would say my bottoms easily get worn 30 times. I like more variety in tops so those may not be worn 30 times. Some of my dresses for work probably are not worn 30 times.
DH's stuff is easily worn 30 times. He wears the same thing to work year round. If it's super cold he might throw a sweater over it.

Is it 30 times for each garment total? My seasonal stuff may not get worn 30 times each season before tie weather changes on me but I would say the majority of my clothes have been worn 30 times total with the exception of a dress I save for special occassions. No way am I getting rid of it because it fits me like a second skin and the coloring is perfect for me. I found it for $5 at Goodwill and it doesn't take up a lot of space. Marie Kondo can pry it from my cold dead hands.

Lands' End has great long sleeve swim tees that have sun protection in them. You can wear them for any outdoor sport and stay protected.

She won't have time to come after your dress since she is trying to convince me to pare down my books to no more than 20 And I keep thinking of asking her per shelf/pile right? Can't get there per room in this lifetime (except maybe the bathrooms since they are so small)

You're not supposed to have more than 20 books? I have more cookbooks alone than that!

You're not supposed to have more than 20 books? I have more cookbooks alone than that! Since I live alone and don't need a bar, I had a bookcase build under there for my cookbooks. I have been collecting since I was 12yo and now have at least 8 full shelves of cookbooks. I will have to pare that down somewhat. I have so many bookcases that my total number of books undoubtedly tops 1000 (or more who knows since I double stack my shelves)

I am getting rid of most of my Beatles books. The boxes are now in the garage. I have to go through them and take the ones I don't want to Goodwill.
