I would keep it until repairs start to add up or until it's on it's last legs. I drove my 2004 until August 2017 when the transmission started to go and the car would lull before accelerating after shifting into second gear. My mechanic drained the oil and said the good news is there's metal shavings and not chunks but until he opened the transmission up he wouldn't know the extent of the damage. Cost to repair or replace the transmission were both more than the car was worth in running condition so it was time to get a new to me car.
