Aggression and other disruptive behaviours linked to Alzheimer’s disease are notoriously difficult to treat, sometimes leading to patients being restrained or medically sedated, but some doctors are now investigating the potential for success with a new strategy: CBD oil. Family members of patients with dementia say CBD oil, short for Cannabidiol and derived from the cannabis plant, can make a world of difference. David Scholey’s yelling used to echo through the hallways of his Ontario long term care facility in Fenelon Falls, Ont. Ever since he tried CBD oil two months ago, the 76-year-old’s dementia-related disruptions have declined. www.ctvnews.ca/health/health-care-teams-turn-to-cbd-oil-to-treat-difficult-symptoms-of-dementia-1.4499752They've been using cannabis in Israeli nursing homes for quite a few years, now.

Wish they'd allowed that when my Mom was living at the memory care facility.

I was just talking with a coworker about asking my vet about CBD for my cat with dementia. cats can get dementia?
That might explain a lot.
Does it make them stand in the bathroom and howl like a banshee until someone comes in and picks them up and puts them on the counter top and turns on the water for them so they can drink out of the faucet?
Or pee in the heating registers?
Or is that just plain old craziness?

It's being recommended to me for my creaky knees but there's a lot of questions about the purity/potency of many products. I don't want to waste $$ on useless junk

How can you know you’re getting good quality CBD?

To get good quality CBD you want it from cannabis not hemp. I find it interesting that my own mother who gave me endless lectures when I switched from opioid drugs to pot for my pain/anxiety now wants to use it for joint pain in salve form.

Interesting. I was just in Kroger earlier and they have CBD oil there. I’m going to Walmart later so I’ll check to see if it’s from cannabis or hemp. Thanks.

My pharmacy carries it, its called Tasty Drops, he said the potency was consistent. It's an independent pharmacy. I used it for awhile I thought it was helping but not so sure and quit. I think my old cat had dementia too, she got to where she would stand and meow plus other issues. She wasn't really eating either but she was 21. Never thought of that for her. May try it for my old dog.

I remember reading about promising studies with marijuana and Alzheimer's nearly 20 years ago, and then...nothing until now. I'd wonder from time to time what became of that.
