Keeping with the movement, since we want to discourage any thing in history, related to slavery,
Along with the removal of any thing Confederate, let's start removing flags out of the museums,
Start purging our entire pre slavery history including the Presidents that owned and or used slaves,, let's rip down the part or the White House that was built by slaves.. We should all feel better now that we have remove all the history and everything associated with it from everywhere!! Political Correctness, at it's best Just think when little Johnnie pulls out his electronic device, He will get a 404 message Not Found,, History,,, it was over rated anyway.

While I agree that the public reaction to the release of this commercial product was over the top, the above reaction to the decision to not sell them is equally overly dramatic.

In a fitting gesture maybe Colin Kaepernich, could produce a video of him pulling down an America flag, then using his feet , while wearing Nike shoes, scrub the flag into the dirt,, Especially on the fourth of July!

Nothing says patriotism like walking on the flag. (Yes I know the flag is on the back of the sneaker's heel. And I don't look at the heels of people's shoes.)

Nike thought they could make some money on a shoe showing a flag and ran with it. Until they changed their mind. Too bad every clothing/shoe manufacturer does not have to pay a "patent fee" to the government for the use of the flag on every piece of attire.

The "Betsy Ross Flag" is a national symbol and a treasured icon. To me it has nothing more to do with slavery than one of Paul Revere's silver candle holders. Sorry Colin, you utterly lost me here. On the other hand, I agree that it is disgraceful to put the flag on a shoe. There is apparently a weak but growing adoption of the Betsy Ross flag by some white supremacist and anti-government militia groups. Is it common, and are most people aware of it? Probably not. Should it matter? Well, I am of the opinion that the flag or its likeness should never be used for clothing or other commercial uses anyway, so.... If Nike was intent on using the flag on their 4th-of-July-themed shoe, why not the current one which would be absent any racist implications? Or are they cognizant of not using the real flag image commercially? Bad choice all around, to me.

Seriously, who do you think is a more lucrative Nike customer, those that like that flag or those that are offended by it's connection to slavery? This is a smart business decision for Nike.

I thought all the conservatives were anti Nike anyway. Why does it matter what they are selling? You're not buying it anyway. Or are you saying that slavery should be celebrated instead of discouraged?

And for those who will boycott Nike sneakers (and other gear) and buy Converse sneakers instead, think twice: Nike owns Converse.

Regardless, this emblem had to do with the Revolution and what Colonialists were trying to do at the time. Overthrow British rule and become a new Nation. Why are people so afraid to regain control of the emblem from right wingers and keep it as a National symbol? Why just relinquish the original flag to them?

Or are you saying that slavery should be celebrated instead of discouraged? You and many others here have no real conception of actual conservatives, do you? I would venture a guess that the average liberal has a far better conception of the average conservative than the reverse. I don't hold the same thought about left-wingers or even progressives, but those who can properly be described as liberals are nothing like most conservatives portray them to be. DJ for one bends over backwards to try to understand not only what you are thinking but how you got there. I myself hold a number of traditionally conservative beliefs, and always define my criticisms in terms of "far-right" or "social" conservatives who violate my two main issues: individual liberties and equal treatment under the law. We are not alone. There are others here as well who have a good understanding of conservatism. I can name some prominent conservative posters here who have likely never posted anything true about liberals in their entire posting career. One in particular.

Incidently, if anyone studied history, Betsy Ross was a Quaker. Guess what the Quakers were totally, absolutely 100% guarenteed against and fought to abolish? Kind of ironic isn't it?

TY Regardless Quakers were and are known for denouncing slavey as well as fighting wars, and I do not know of any writings she did renouncing these great ideals. Kind of ironoic Kap, America's new "Captain America" glossed over these facts about Betsy and her creation. I prefer we recapture her flag image from the racists and restore it to it's proper glory belonging to America, and not a small group of idiots. That said, I do prefer it not be on a pair of shoes, but that is my problem.

The only people who claim Betsy Ross created the first American flag were/are her family members. Most historians dismiss the claim. The Truth About Betsy Ross

Can you find any sign that she wrote anything saying anything about anything? I can't. I did find: In 1776, at the start of the American Revolution, John (her husband) was killed by a gunpowder explosion while on militia duty at the Philadelphia waterfront. link So her husband wasn't against fighting. Granted doesn't prove her thoughts on anything any more than the fact that you don't know of any writings that say what she believed.

I always thought widows stayed widows back then. Not her! She buried three of em. Looks like she did own a fabric and flag making shop. Not out of the ordinary that politicians talked to her about a flag back then. The colonies were a small clanish group back then, and unlike corporations today, they did not outsource the flag making industry.
