Well, isn't this special? Tennessee preacher-cop calls for execution of LGBTQ people Authorities in Tennessee are reviewing all pending cases involving a Knox County Sheriff's Office detective after he gave a sermon at his church that called for the government to execute members of the LGBTQ community. "They are worthy of death," Grayson Fritts said in a June 2 sermon at All Scripture Baptist Church, a small church in Knoxville that he leads. www.cnn.com/2019/06/14/us/tennessee-preacher-cop-lgbtq/index.html

We have quite a few ministers and other 'religious' residents in Tennessee with unique ideas of what is best for the world.

And of course, the words of their god as they understand those words are the only true and right words. Sounds like this pistol-packing preacher oughta lose his pulpit and his license as an officer. Can't change his tiny little mind about what he believes, but he should not be allowed to legally bear arms, so that he might actually carry out his beliefs, becoming judge, jury and executioner of those who have no beef with him, do not know him and have nothing to do with him, but whose only "crime" is there mere existence in a world where they live differently from him.
Damned shame the likes of him made it through the interview and testing process and got a badge. Dopes like this are dangerous on the streets. What if he decides to put his almighty beliefs into action, and kills someone who he thinks looks or sounds or acts queer or trans, only to be wrong? And what if that person is the son, daughter or other relation of someone who sat in those pews, listening to that hate-filled diatribe he delivered on June 2nd? How does Fritts even face himself in the mirror every day, as an officer sworn to uphold the law and protect citizens, when he believes a substantial sector of the citizens should be wiped off the face of the earth?

He reminds me of the Buford Pusser character from Smokey and the Bandit, only his patrol car spits Hell's flames, he's got horns, a pitchfork and he's carrying a lead Bible in one hand and his police-issued revolver in the other.

Wonder if his views would change if one of his children came out as gay? I know a lot of other parents have changed their minds over the years when it's in their own home.
Or maybe he would be like many others in the south...kick them out of his house, cut all ties with them.....
Sure glad I'm no longer religious...and things like this is one of the many reasons why!

Or maybe he would be like many others in the south...kick them out of his house, cut all ties with them..... Sure glad I'm no longer religious...and things like this is one of the many reasons why! I appreciate strong religious beliefs, even the ones I don't agree with. I especially appreciate those who have solid ties with their religious institutions. I also respect those who have chosen to step away and live spiritually, but not religiously. I think it takes all kinds, and the world is better for the variety. But this nutbutt isn't religious in the standard, classic sense. He is off the deep end, writing his own rules and has the firepower at hand to possibly enforce his beliefs. He makes the bonafide religious folks look bad. His type of evil is especially deadly, because he believes he's right and he has the means to take his sick sense of sincerity to the next level. I look at this in the bigger context of the overall disintegration of societal civility in the last few years. This month is also the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, which started the LBGTQ rights movement in this country. I am all for freedom of speech (I am a freelance writer, and could not do what I do without it), but I abhor the intolerant place we are as a country.

From the link in the OP: "A small church The church Fritts leads operates out of a storefront in Knoxville. WATE attended a service on June 12 and reported 16 people attended." Has a very small congregation. Very small. In eastern Tennessee (and Kentucky), some of these small congregations use rattlesnakes in their services. Strange folks indeed. Having said that, ... Grayson Fritts won't be fired because of fear of free-speech lawsuits, Knox sheriff saysStory Highlights The Knox County sheriff says he's worried about lawsuits if he fires an anti-LGBTQ detective. The detective delivered a sermon calling for the killing of LGBTQ community members. Sheriff Tom Spangler is allowing him to take an early buyout offer. The buyout was asked for and approved before the controversy erupted, Spangler says. link

I’m pretty sure that “true” Christians are familiar with the Ten Commandments (I.e., Thou shall not kill), and that the only true judge of a person’s sins — IF one sincerely believes that homosexuality is a sin — is God himself.
But, heck, those are just details... 😏
I fear this guy — or one of his followers — will follow through.

I think this is unlikely. Some of them might try, but I would expect them to become distracted fighting among themselves over whose magic words are more pleasing to their imaginary friend. Posturing and making threats makes them feel powerful, and they think it pleases their deity.

Posturing and making threats makes them feel powerful, and they think it pleases their deity. Anyone picking on a perceived minority feels better about themselves; it lifts them up in their own misguided eyes and pushes that minority down even further. What these alleged Christians does not yet know, but will learn is that the LGBTQ community does not see itself as a minority capable of standing for persecution. I think the backlash will be swift and, as dannylion points out, the resulting fight among "Christians" will be anything but civil. It may make certain splinter groups, like this preacher's, more dangerous and likely to take to physical violence, however. And it's that lone wolf gunman that worries me.
