I hope that you don't fight this, and that you can use whatever money to get from your mom's estate to become more comfortable. Personally I would start by buying a working computer/phone/printer and getting internet at home. You've been complaining about your job FOREVER. But without internet/a computer/ a smartphone I don't see much hope of you getting a better one. You won't ever move forward by checking your email at the library once a week. Also, try to find a doctor who can treat your sinus issues. With all your past issues with your employer, I'm amazed that you've been off sick for a month and haven't been fired, especially since you yourself state that this happens every year (albeit maybe not for a month). But seriously, just say THANK YOU to your sister for dealing with the estate, and make the money you inherit from your mom count.
All the best to you, and again, I'm very sorry for your loss. But you really need to use this as an opportunity to move forward rather than continue to lament a more glorious/lucrative past.

You're frustrated that you're not more in the loop with what is happening, but you also have a lot of reasons that you're difficult to communicate with. No phone, no email, off work because you're sick, and you've said you're usually sick this time of year. How much could you have taken on if you had been the executor? How often have you mailed her a letter to communicate? I'm sorry about your mom. I'd ask for the accounting, but settle as quickly as possible and try not to let this damage what is left of your family relationships. I hope the money helps set you up for a better future. I was quite easy to contact prior to all that. This has been in the offing now for almost 18 months. She told me in January of 2018 it would be at least a year, but I heard nothing until she needed me to do paperwork. That was her choice. She could have given me a heads up when she picked the date she wanted it to close as well, when she filed Mom's estate taxes. But she chose not to. Not sure why you care how I'd handle being executor, as it has been Mom's choice it would be her for more than a decade, maybe two. But if I get to do Dad's estate, yes, I will keep people better informed on the progress, because that's how I roll as a trained engineer who has worked in large corporations.

I have not checked out this web page. I found it in the Elk's Magazine article on estates. TrustInFamilies.com

I am stuck at my job, or more accurately stuck locally due to the condition of my vehicle. I will use the settlement to get me a used commuter vehicle and get a better job. If you saw my budget, you'd be amazed I accomplish what I do. The judge and the lawyer almost cried while granting me a BK years ago. My situation has improved some, but worsened in others, i.e. car is now 18+ yrs. old and not fully maintained due to $$. Driving to the library costs money so I don't do it that often generally. I can't afford the good doctors now, just like my housing is major league un-affordable, but none of the section 8 or affordable housing has come available yet. I had a good GP and an allergist years ago. This is my life while poor. I have only been out that long at this employer, mainly because they push everyone past their limits and refuse to hire per diems even though the front desk has been begging for months. This sadly is usual. It was never this bad at my better paid IT jobs, because I had money for healthcare and my employer didn't try to push me until I broke. Actually the problem for a change is not my current boss, but in the nursing dept I have been doing additional work for. They are slow to fire people, and there are far more worthy candidates than I. If they fired me, there are at least three people who would have to step up and fully do their job, and I don't see that happening . As it didn't happen in my absence. FWIW, the administrator said he was glad I was back.
