Florida state lawmakers believe they have a solution for skyrocketing prescription drug bills: importing lower-cost medications from Canada. Republican lawmakers, led by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, recently voted to pass a proposal to import cheaper, price-controlled drugs from Canada as a way to help its growing population of seniors who can’t afford medications. The plan, which was a key plank of DeSantis’ legislative agenda, still needs to be approved by the federal Health and Human Services Department before it can be implemented. U.S. President Donald Trump, who promised that the Republicans would be “the party of great health care,” supports the proposal. www.ctvnews.ca/world/importing-prescription-drugs-from-canada-could-get-green-light-in-florida-1.4419251Too funny! What's next? Sending patients to hospitals in Canada?

I remember a couple decades ago, when I was living in northern Ohio, there were buses that would pick up retired people and take them on a day trip over to Canada so they could get their prescriptions filled there. They saved so much money it was well worth the price of the bus trip to get there and back. At the time, I remember Big Pharma was trying to make a law that said Americans couldn't go to Canada to get their meds because Canada doesn't come under the FDA regs and therefore 'those' drug could be 'dangerous.'
I think they had the same bus caravans in New York at the time.
The US is so much under the thumb of Big Pharma they're the only first world country that doesn't have limitations on the cost of drugs sold here. Too much Pharma lobby money thrown at our politicians. At the same time, all this advertising on TV for new drugs for restless legs or growing eyelashes longer.... that doesn't go on in most other countries, either.

The money Pharma spends on lobbying makes the NRA look like couch cushion money.

Why import drugs from Canada, why don't they change our laws with regard to negotiating drug prices & with the intent of lowering prices for all consumers.

Do they think we make our drugs in a bathtub in some dirty basement? Our standards are even higher than yours! What's interesting is that they passed this law, without asking us if we're OK with emptying our drug larders for the benefit of Americans. And you're right. Drug advertising in the USA costs something like eleven times as much as Research and Development. Other countries do not allow direct-to-consumer advertising. It's one of the reasons your drug prices are so outrageously high. SOMEBODY has to pay for it, and it's you.

Canadian shelves ‘would run dry’ if U.S. imports drugs Importing prescription drugs from Canada has long been seen as an easy solution to skyrocketing drug prices for U.S. patients. But now that President Donald Trump and Democrats are pushing to make those cross-border sales legal, Canadian health experts are issuing a dire warning: It could destroy Canada's drug market. Attempting to fill the United States' needs with pharmaceuticals from its much smaller northern neighbor could sap supplies in Canada, creating shortages and driving up prices in a government-run health system that itself is struggling to make drugs affordable, opponents of the import proposals say. And the result, they say, would be little if any relief for high prices in the United States. “The Canadian shelves would run dry,” said Steve Morgan, a Canadian health economist who has advised the government on pricing reform. www.politico.com/story/2019/02/21/canada-prescription-drugs-1188578So,it will cause drug shortages and higher prices for us. Thanks so much for that. There are ten times more of you, and you take a LOT of drugs. Why can't you just lower the price of your own drugs?

Because free trade, unless we shouldn't, but no regulation, unless we should, and nationalism only when we want it. Politics makes zero sense, because people are idiots. They will create an import policy that is unhelpful, and then take credit, until it doesn't work, and then they will blame each other. Heaven forbid they just do something useful

Send me some, I'm going on a cruise this fall and found out on the last one that I'm not built for sea travel.
I'll swap you some RC cola, some moon pies, a gun with the serial number filed off and Donald Trump for them.
