Slow, they told us the first week would be the worst, lots of swelling, hard to sleep, rigid medication schedule. Hopefully things will start to level out. The good news is they took his wisdom teeth out at the same time so he doesn’t have to go through another surgery to remove those buggers.

Ice packs or bags of frozen peas will help with swelling
Drinking melted ice cream will help too.
Hope he heals quickly.

Sounds like your boy is doing well, tractor. Once he's by the first week it will get much better. If weight does become an issue, the docs have ways to deal with that. Just be sure to stay on top of the pain and don't wait until it hurts to treat it. Hugs to all!

For those that have asked, let me first say that it’s rather odd how something so stressful can quickly become normal, then after a few weeks, life goes on and you really don’t think about it anymore.
This is a long way to say my son is doing fine, we’re almost a month into the recovery phase and the swelling has finally gone down. He’s starting to get bored not being able to go play soccer with his friends, but the risk for additional damage is just too great at this point. His final planned checkup is in two weeks and our hope is he can start chewing again.
He desperately needs to fatten up, so he will soon be on a strict cheesecake and French fry diet until he gains about 20 lbs. 🙂

You can put just about any kind of soup through a blender and add heavy cream.

This may make you feel better. The captain of the Boston Bruins recently suffered from a broken jaw after taking a puck to the face. He can't eat or speak, but he's still probably playing hockey tonight..

What a relief to have this event almost over and feel it was a success. That makes me happy for you.
FYI I found the weight he lost. Please contact me by PM asap to arrange for its return. If this is done right away, no fees or changes for storage will be required. Thank you.

OK, not much of an update, he’s still doing well, but my main focus is now to get him to go outside, and possibly to interact with his friends. The weeks he has spent in his darkened room need to come to an end. I did run into a girl from his high school class yesterday and asked her to text him (they are friends) requesting that he take her to a movie or something. She said she would, it’s just not good to be in complete isolation all the time. He’s been sleeping in until 3:00 pm every day, then staying up until 3 in the morning playing video games (typical teenager, I know), but I’m beginning to wonder if the implanted fangs or something so that now he’s afraid of the light 🧛♂️

It can be really hard to make yourself rejoin society after keeping to yourself for a length of time, even if you want to. Can you have/make him pick up items at the grocery store, for dinner or something?

He made it outside yesterday to work on his Jeep. At least he got some fresh air. I’m out of town for a few days, but I’m going to try and get him moving again this weekend, I think more social interaction with his friends will speed up his recovery.
