Psst, I assumed she's exaggerating for effect. When we're talking 100K for a butt ugly SUV, who the hell knows if it's true or not. Let's get something straight: if someone told me they spend $100k+ for THAT vehicle I would assume that they would be exaggerating for effect - and not being subtle about it either. Shows you how much I know and/or care about cars (not a WOW to be had)

Lol, when I was pregnant, my fingers swelled, so I bought a fake 1.5 ct wedding ring made of silver on one of the shopping channels. It was really pretty, but cost only $100. I got a lot of compliments on that/people eyeing it.
That's about it. I'm pretty unimpressive, I guess.

I sometimes get compliments on my hair and very infrequently on how I dress. Most of the time I wear jeans and a t-shirt, but when I dress up people notice.

Thinking about this....... I can’t come up with anything. I live in a middle unit townhome and drive an accord. The only premium things I buy are electronics and unless you’re a super techie you likely wouldn’t know what I have is premium.
I buy a lot of premium experiences and go in style to sporting events but I don’t have any social media but LinkedIn so unless I’m taking someone they wouldn’t know.
It pisses my mom off I could afford premium things but give her nothing to brag about in pictures or online.

Shows you how much I know and/or care about cars (not a WOW to be had) I recall hearing a story about a kid that got picked up by the NBA (or maybe NFL). He was offered league minimum, no guarantee. I think minimum was $250k at the time. He bought an Escalade, tricked it out and it ended up being some huge amount of money - like 150 or 175 or something. He got cut or hurt super early in the season and ended up homeless and had to declare BK to get out from the loan. Don't get me wrong, if I was given a ton of money when I was 20, I would have been a total idiot. But that is a special kind of stupid.

I get wows about the crabapple tree and other flowers I planted in my front yard. Don’t know if those entirely qualify as material objects.

I got nothing. I lead a dull and boring life. Ok, I guess my 72 year old working stove/oven gets some "wows" when a guest sees the thing for the first time.

I get occasional wows about my yard. And I expect some wows about my sunflowers. Sometimes, I gets wows about my cats. I've also gotten compliments on my cute shoes from Etsy.

That is a car related WOW, but only in the sense of "OUCH!!!"

Hi, my name is Cookies and I follow cats on Instagram. Gonna follow this sweetie pie, too! I have a 19-year-old cat and a three-legged cat. Both get wows.

I have a rope bed my great grand uncles made for my grandma when she got married, out of a cherry tree from their farm. It's a quaint little bed, halfway in size between a single and a full size (had to get a customized mattress), people like the ropes and they like the story.
Not a lot of opportunities to show people a bed, though, so outside of my in-laws and some of DS's friends (who slept on it) I can't recall showing it to anyone - so not a lot of 'wow's going on at my place.

What do you have that others are impressed by? I get compliments on my wedding ring occasionally. Other than that I can’t think of anything. DH has an El Camino. People talk to him on a daily about it. Interested in what YM has (material wise) that makes them say wow. I get compliments on the 5 carat nose stud I wear while driving my Bugatti La Voiture Noire and throwing rare $10,000 bills to shoppers on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. They all love me.

Our admin assistant drove a brand new G-Wagon. By her own admission she was the lowest paid employee at our little firm, but her husband was *very* successful in commercial real estate development. We had some guys from a partner company come to our office one day, from a rural area in Texas. At the end of the day, one of them asked "Whose Mercedes is that in the parking lot?" We told him it was our front office assistant, and he was dumbfounded. We explained that her husband was loaded, which definitely helped explain the situation, and he said "OK, I just had to ask who's driving the car that costs more than my house." Don't forget, there's also the 6-wheel AMG G-Wagon that cost $500K+ when they made them from 2013-2015

When people find out I have four kids, with 14 years between the youngest and oldest, they go "Wow!" too. I had a lot of fun with it, when I could. Because it screams, old, middle aged fugly couple still getting some. And it's amazing all the sorts of people that feel awkward when they think about it. It also screams poor person behavior. Which doesn't exactly match with our other choices...So that makes people stop and scratch their heads to. I have gotten complements on my wedding ring.

I had a Mercedes smaller SUV. I think the G wagons are ugly and over priced. I now drive a Land Rover. Not for status but it was a great deal and all wheel drive.
As for compliments, the one that means the most to me, is how polite and nice my teenage children are.
I don't care about the wow factor, don't wear the jewelry I own, dress for the occasion but not flashy.
I have been blessed in my life and am grateful. My one WOW to me is I flew to/from Chicago to Cali on a private jet. That was a bucket list for me!

I get compliments on my hair and my eyebrows.
My hair is black and curly, but it's a very soft curl and it doesn't frizz or look messy as long as I put some leave-in conditioner. All I have to do is shampoo, put the leave in conditioner, massage it a little bit with my fingers and done.
My eyebrows are big and have a nice arch. All I do is trim them so they look presentable, and then use a soft pencil to delineate them. I get frequent compliments on them also.
Other "Wow"s I get are not related to any physical attributes; my CPA license, my job, my education, my 5-weeks vacation in the middle of winter when I got back home and is summer there, and I come back with a beautiful tan.
My cooking skills regularly earn me several Wows. There's almost no traditional food from my country in the area where I live. But I have learned to cook many, many dishes. I can do meals, pastries, desserts, cookies, treats, etc. People from my community are impressed. I love cooking so I watch some YouTube videos from my favorite cooks from back home. Some dishes take me a couple of trials until I master them.
Everybody at work is impressed with my traditional alfajores de maizena cookies. I put the recipe here in a thread for the holidays. My coworkers, manager, and higher-ups love them and look forward to enjoying them. These cookies make people happy and everybody has a big smile when I bring them. They have earned me a lot of goodwill at work.

I've gotten 4 compliments on my hair today. Which is weird because all I did was french braid it then wind the braid into a bun. Apparently there are a lot of ladies in this department who can't braid hair. I can do a simple braid. I cannot french braid my hair. Seriously, I can't hook my bra strap without putting it on backwards and twisting it around. No way could I pull off French braiding blind and backwards.

I managed to french braid my hair a few times back when I was a teenager and had longer, nicer hair, and more free time. Then I taught my mom how to do it for me, as I simply don't have enough hands.

I get a wow for my hand painted galaxy jacket. I created it myself after seeing a YouTube video.
I take good care of it but it will eventually wear out. I'm on the look out in thrift stores for a similar shade and structure jacket. I got another one I did with black denim but it's not as good in my opinion. I still get compliments from others.

I get wows for my vacations. I post pictures on FB and get the likes on there but people also comment on it in person. People on here take more impressive trips than I have but it's unique in my circles. I love being able to say "GW and I really enjoyed the Andy Warhol exhibit at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo"

I've had a lot of practice with braiding, I guess, between my hair and the girls'. I even taught DH how to French braid so he could do the girls' hair.
The other day day I was bored in a conference so I taught myself how to do a 4 and 5 strand braid with pipe cleaners. I put a little 5-strand braid in B's hair I was pretty proud of that!

Why does having children spaced far apart scream "poor people behavior"? I don't get it.

It's not that the kids are spaced apart, it's the fact that we have four kids. It's been well documented through studies, anecdotally, etc that families with means are choosing to have 1-2 kids max. Goodness, Paul Ryan came out and said that families in his SES needed to be like him and have three kids. Even at the Catholic school my kids go to, I would say only 10% of the families have three or more kids, if that.
The at-risk families I worked with...I would say a third of them had 2 kids, a third had 3, and the rest had more than 4.
