In general, I have noticed a lot more aggressive drivers on the road the past couple of years. I thought it was just because we have so many Californians moving here Personally, it seems like everyone is extremely impatient these days.
Californians, especially from LA and the Bay Area seem to be more aggressive because they are used to driving much closer together and at higher speeds. Took a couple of years after we moved to northern NV for me to quit driving like it’s LA. When I moved from suburban Chicago to LA, I was surprised to find LA drivers were very courteous and capable. If you want to change lanes, all you have to do is signal and the person in the adjacent lane will make room. Not much room, but enough. With the speed and congestion, LA drivers might be the best drivers in the country. I saw a driver who didn’t know where their exit was cross three lanes of bumper to bumper 70 mph traffic in less than 100 yards and nobody hit them. There was a lot of swearing in my car, and I’m sure many others. But that drivers avoided a massive pile up tells you how much attention they were paying and that they have some well developed spatial awareness and car handling skills.

I honestly don't pay attention, particularly if there are two lanes.
However, I recently read a Facebook rant about someone going the speed limit instead of "the traffic flow." Really? You are supposed to speed ?

The only reason I pay attention to tailgaters is because I have been hit from behind twice over a period of years. Someone riding my ass makes me nervous. I will get out of their way if possible by changing lanes. But there are some areas here that you can have 5 fire trucks, three ambulances and a Presidential Parade coming and you have nowhere to pull over in three lanes of bumper to bumper traffic!!

I don't pay attention to the car behind me in general.
The problem is that the tailgaters are getting so aggressive that they are bumper to bumper to me and all I can see in the rear mirror is their car, and even their face.
Or is nighttime and they put the high beams on and I have to move the mirror because they are blinding me.
I don't change lanes. I'm in the right lane; they should change lanes if they want to go faster. The only thing I do is leave a bigger space with the car in front. If they hit me, I don't want to be responsible for hitting someone else. It's very annoying and it makes me nervous. I feel like they are playing with fire, and putting me at risk for absolutely no reason.

It's not that people think you're at fault, or that people don't recognize the tailgater SHOULD go around. If you feel unsafe, you can only control what YOU do. If you're just annoyed, then you're just annoyed. It's probably not worth getting off the road to avoid someone who is annoying you. But if you honestly believe you're being put "at risk", of course you should get off the road. If someone points a gun at you for no reason, of course they are in the wrong. That doesn't change that you should take some actions to keep yourself as safe as possible. Even if those actions inconvenience you and SHOULDN'T be necessary if people were behaving appropriately...but it's not worth taking some moral stand if you think your'e actually in serious harm.

I would rather avoid them instead of getting pissed off and white knuckle driving. I say let them tailgate the person in front of me when I get out of their way. I've never had to actually get off the road though. I just change lanes if possible. I have no morals if I'm in danger

Mostly I'm annoyed because someone else is creating a risky situation that's completely avoidable. Hence the word rant in the title. It would be a cold day in hell when I drive off the road to accommodate a tailgating bully, considering I'm always in the right lane and they have the left lane to pass. If I ever get hit from behind, and I truly hope it never happens, I'm not the one at fault and I'll make sure the tailgater has to deal with all the consequences of their actions

[br Is this one of the parkedys? Drivers on the parkways are batshit crazy — the speeds they go in some of those curves. 😱. And God forbid if you don’t also have a lead foot... I don't have a lead foot. But like I said repeatedly, I'm on the right lane all the time. The left lane is for the crazies and bullies, I understand that and never go there.
that's a perfectly sane and reasonable observation.

I don't drive much on the expressway anymore, but the wife says the new thing is to use your windshield washer fluid (and lots of it), so that it sprays on the car behind...

Whenever someone is tailgating me, I always wonder, do they want to race or are they just a shitty driver? I laugh when they can't tailgate me through the corners though...
