Ok. So someone broke a tv a few weeks ago meaning we were down one. Meaning the one we tend to move around from upstairs to bedrooms etc. when a group of kids is over. So... my bright idea was replace mine with a bigger one and give them my old one for that purpose.
It was kind of a whim, so i didn't measure what we have. I was thinking it might be 40 based on the ones at target, but honestly its so old that the frame is like 1 1/2 - 2 inches around and the screen was probably not even 40...
So i opted for a 50 inch. I immediately got rid of the judder/motion smoothing crap, BUT... i am getting a headache and a little queasy watching this thing. Has anyone else adjusted to a new tv... is it possible that i just need to get used to it?
We also always watch with closed caption and weird as it may seem, on the older, smaller screen i could take in the whole pic and words as one, but its almost like i have to focus on the words or on the picture now... ugh. Why did i think bigger would be better...
Advice? Ideas? Own tv issues?

I just went from a 9 year old 42" to a 55 ". I haven't had an issues in the 6 hours since I put it up. Don't use captions though.

It makes sense about the captions. There is more screen surface for your eyes to scan. I forget how big DHs TV is, 55 I think. I hate it, and at first I found the huge screen very unsettling. It helped me a little to increase the caption font size. Really I prefer my 32” to DHs.

Yeah, we get mocked for how small our television is, so I can't help you.

Yeah, we get mocked for how small our television is, so I can't help you. Sigh. I think I should have stayed small. These people look life size. That can’t be right? There has been no official tv upstairs or downstairs. We have the old one and then had one people would basically move when it was needed. I could always put this nice one downstairs and reclaim my old one. You couldn’t move this one around though? I would maybe have to get yet another one? How many TVs do people own?

The distance from which you view the screen in relationship to its size is significant. link

We have two, one in our bedroom and one in the living room. The living room is 55. Upstairs is 40 I think?

Anyone else out there who does NOT have a TV in the bedroom? We don't. We have one television in our house and one television in our camping trailer.

Anyone else out there who does NOT have a TV in the bedroom? I have a 42" in the bedroom and a 61" in the livingroom, but I almost never use the bedroom one. It was the guest bedroom TV until recently when we took everything out of the basement to prep for flooding. The one in my livingroom is my happy place. We have a huge sectional and surround sound in there, so it's where I kick back to watch movies.

My mom has more TVs than anyone I know. Every bedroom (5 bedroom house) the living room, the family room, the shop, the camper.... They can't live without FOX news going non-stop wherever they are.

We don’t have a tv in our bedroom. We have 5 tv’s in our house, 1 in my office which is for our security cameras and is 19 in, 1 in the guest room for the grandkids to watch, 1 in the living room, and 2 in the family room, although one of those will be switched out for the one in my office.
We refuse to put one in our bedroom.

We have too many TV's, but only 3 in use. (Several old ones were in our basement. We may have gotten rid of a few of those now-- I don't remember exactly how many.) The kids watch them, but we barely do. I've gotten out of the habit, but we have more viewing options now, so my DH will turn it on every other day or so.

Anyone else out there who does NOT have a TV in the bedroom? TD didn’t, until I moved in. TD has a 55” when I moved in, so put my 42” onto the bedroom wall. It gets turned on about once/mo. When I lived alone, I did have a TV in my bedroom too. Mainly because I would listen to the news and weather report while getting ready for work. After I had surgery, I used to watch a lot of 2 am TV because my sleep was so disrupted.

Anyone else out there who does NOT have a TV in the bedroom? I have one, but about the only time it comes on is when I’m folding laundry. So about once a month or so 😉

No TV in the bedroom. We only had one TV until recently and the second TV only gets used when my husband rides the exercise bike.

The one in the den/library is enough as it were. No tv in the kitchen or living room or bedroom.

One 26" tv in the living room . That's enough for me. And the only electronics that make it into my bedroom is my phone when my friend and neighbor is not feeling well. Just in case she needs help in the middle of the night.
Not counting my alarm clock..

I have a 40" or so in the living room. I mostly listen to music on it.
I have a much smaller one in the bedroom--24" or so. I have had a tv in my bedroom since I started working.
They are mostly background noise.
I don't take the phone to my bedroom unless I think dad may need help. At least he would call and I know I would hear it ring.
My sister got a text at 1:26 am informing her that cousin's husband died. Phone was in bedroom in case of dad but she did not hear the text.

I could not fall asleep if I didn't have a TV in the bedroom. I turn it on, set the sleep timer and usually asleep before the first commercial comes on. If I wake up during the night turn TV on, set sleep timer and fall back to sleep. Strange, I know!! One reason I never travel with someone who can't afford their own hotel room
And I have a TV in living room. It's a 40" (I think) and one in bedroom is smaller 32" it may have to do double duty one day as PC monitor but so far monitor is hanging tough!!

We have a 55 inch TV in the living room, and it’s the only one in the house. Well, wait, we have a 32 inch TV in it’s box under the bed that we obviously don’t use. My DH would LOVE to set that one up in the bedroom, but I’m a firm nope on that. Between the light and noise, I’d never get any sleep. And, contrary to what DH says, he sleeps MUCH better since we quit having a TV on all night long.

We have a 47" tv in the living room, which is our only TV. Our house has small rooms and it is hard to get a good distance away from the tv, so that was the largest size we could use for comfortable viewing.
If you don't get used to it and if it is too late to return it for a smaller size, you should probably swap the big one to the downstairs and bring the small one back up to your room.

My parents have 4 TVs, maybe 5. I can't recall if there's one in the guest room, I think there is. Otherwise, it's kitchen, living room, bedroom and Mom's makeup closet. The makeup closet one runs off the same feed as the bedroom one, I believe. We have 4 at my house, at least 2 were free.

We are down to 3 tv's - there used to be one in the kitchen but now that we've remodeled there isn't a good spot for it. I don't mind not watching TV in there as I tend to listen to the radio (I love my siriusxm app) and my DH now watches netflix on his ipad. We have TV's in the bedroom, living room and rec room. The rec room one is 55", but we sit about 8' away from it. Sometimes I used the closed caption as my DH likes to listen to music when I watch TV. At 8', its not too bad but I think I did mess with the font size to make it bigger. I rarely use the one in the bedroom, but my DH likes to watch it to go to sleep. It would probably help his sleep if he didn't. Our other 2 TV's are relatively small. I don't need to be immersed in my TV - I'm not at the movies. When I bought the new one for the bedroom I actually had to search around for recommendations on size - there are definitely variations among the websites. The "older" recommendations tend to point to smaller tv's. The newer ones all suggest giant sizes.

About a year ago I purchased a 55 inch for the living room and moved my 9-year old 42 inch into the bedroom. The new TV is Ultra HD and it took some getting used to...it was almost like people were standing in my living room.
I watch some foreign shows with closed caption and there are a few that are hard for me to both take in the words and see what is happening on the screen. I started putting German shows into English dubbing because it seemed like they were talking so fast. I could read all the words but then would miss what was happening on the screen. Just curious...why do you keep closed caption on all the time?

Just curious...why do you keep closed caption on all the time? A lot of people do that, including my son. He says he misses things in the dialogue sometimes without it (hey, maybe I need to include close captions in my conversations with him!) It used to drive me nuts having words on the screen, but now I occasionally find myself not bothering to go in and shut it off on Netflix (it always defaults to his settings).
