Voted! I actually ran across fluid painting a few weeks ago and really love the way it looks. I was thinking about trying it but I'm not artsy and I'll probably never have time. I'm totally going to watch your fb page for pieces that I like. Thanks. Warning! It's addicting... I watched videos for about 2 months while I was out of town with my son before I bought some cheap paint and canvas boards to try it. It's been a rabbit hole ever since then. And, since it's harder to sell paintings and there are tons of uses for acrylic paint skins, I ended up in that rabbit hole as well. lol A lot of the paint pouring folks waste a ton of paint. So from day one I have kept all my waste paint as skins and use them for jewelry and other projects. The markup if you buy wholesale findings is fantastic and I wanted less expensive options for the site. I have about 60 finished jewelry pieces I need to photograph and put on my website. I have some clock faces (records) ready for resin. I'm still writing for a living, so I fill my off work time with painting and the new business. It's fun and I am hoping to stop writing as much and be able to do more art. Content writing doesn't pay very well, so it doesn't take much to start replacing that income.

If you want to work the finding love angle, more power to you. It might just convince him to get on that bus. Personally, I think he needs some straight talk about employment and medical issues and disability from folks who have no need to sugar-coat it much more than he needs snuggles, but if it takes romance-talk to get him on the road, I say "do it! "
Even if he sets off in search of a wife and comes back realizing that he will be damn lucky to be working at the age of 45. he'll be better off for the experience. There are just so many things in life that are best learned from peers.
I must have not been clear, I'm not in any way pushing the love angle. His main reason for wanting to attend is access to world-class doctors who actually know something about dwarf people. He also has never been around other little people in real life and has wanted to for a long time. We have had a lot of conversations about AI and future job prospects. I write content for a living. It will be replaced by AI. My other son is working for a grocery store stocking shelves. Another job that will be replaced by AI. One of the reasons I moved to art and away from content is it's a physical thing I can always sell in person, though I prefer online. I could start my own content agency or pick up private clients, but eventually that work will go away replaced by AI. It's already capable of writing blog posts. My son is planning to attend the university in the city he is now living in and become a teacher. He is 4 classes from an AA degree and has guaranteed entry into the university because of where he did that work. His plan is to start back at school in the fall. It's challenging because he works full time and isn't driving. When he's tired he has seizures. So, it's not a typical "suck it up and be tired for a couple years" situation. I did find it interesting many of the LPs in LPA were very well paid professionals. Perhaps because it was the SF Bay Area chapter, but I expected more people on disability, etc... and it was nearly always the complete opposite.

Forgive me for typing thoughtlessly. I wasn't even thinking of the seizures when I spoke of needing to know a lot more about disability. I was thinking about the myriad of musculoskeletal and thoracic issues that contribute to LP leaving the workforce well before retirement age.

Once he gets a university degree, he might want to consider applying for a job in Montreal. Montreal is a global AI powerhouse. A big plus would be healthcare he doesn't have to pay for out of pocket. His health issues won't bankrupt him. www.forbes.com/sites/peterhigh/2017/11/06/why-montreal-has-emerged-as-an-artificial-intelligence-powerhouse/#1703a88b23bd

Forgive me for typing thoughtlessly. I wasn't even thinking of the seizures when I spoke of needing to know a lot more about disability. I was thinking about the myriad of musculoskeletal and thoracic issues that contribute to LP leaving the workforce well before retirement age. Until the seizures, my son had been very fortunate health-wise. In fact, just before they started he was telling me how lucky he was that he hasn't had any of the typical dwarfism-related issues. He says he won't say that again. My son isn't built like people with achondroplasia or other forms of dwarfism one sees on TV, etc... I believe he may be pseudo-achon. When he was young his legs were bowed and he had the spinal curve, but it all straightened out as he aged. However, during all the MRI's he had for the seizure issue, we found out he has no temporal lobes in his brain. We wonder if that might be some association to his seizures and/or dwarfism. I assume any geneticist with extensive dwarfism experience would know. Since his father was disabled in his early 30s, my son understands it's important to get in as many high-paying years into the SSDI system as possible just in case something happens. There is a very big difference between SSDI and SSI. But, everyone's hope is he will be one of those LPs who works well into retirement age.

My son has continued to have more seizures but they haven't been as bad as before. He's frustrated because his employer told him every time he has one he has to go home for the rest of the day... He worked less than an hour the other day and they sent him home. It cost him more to commute than he made. Ug. The good news is he now knows they are trying to find a reason to get rid of him and it motivated him to look for a better job. We think he may have found one. If they hire him, it will be $2 more per hour plus a lot of overtime, and it's in the evenings when it's best for his health issues. It's at a clothing manufacturers warehouse and would mean he won't have to deal with customers and the seizures wouldn't matter because all that happens is he momentarily can't move or talk. When you work the drive thru that's kinda a problem... at a desk packing orders not so much. We are all hoping he gets the job. He knows a couple people who work there and they are both recommending him. I find out on the 20th if I was one of the winners of the art contest. I don't typically win anything, but I thought there's 102 awards and someone has to win. I've been listing things on my new website and have been selling jewelry. Ironically, all of my sales to date have been to locals and via Facebook, though I didn't know the buyers. Kinda fun. If you want to see what I do, I am facebook.com/mountainshadowart and mountainshadowart.com

If you want to see what I do, I am facebook.com/mountainshadowart and mountainshadowart.com Your jewelry is BEAUTIFUL! If I can make a suggestion, though, I think it's underpriced. The items you have for $15, IMO, should be closer to $25. I'd be interested in what others think. I'd hate to see you lose sales if you raised prices, so don't do it based only on my opinion. Is this comparable to what you see at craft fairs and etsy?

Is this comparable to what you see at craft fairs and etsy? Thank you. Prices are all over the place, but $10-$20 is standard. My barrier for charging higher prices is I am selling exclusively online so people can't hold the piece in their hands. It makes it harder to sell to first-time customers. On the business end, it cost me less than $1 per piece in materials to make jewelry items and I can make a large batch in a few hours total time. I went with my own site because sites like Etsy end up taking about 15% of your sales price in fees and are flooded with sellers. I have plans to approach a few of the local tourist spots selling locals' art and try to make some wholesale deals. I've found others who make similar pieces who do this and that's how they make the bulk of their income. I really love the rectangle pieces without any bezels and plan to make those in the future. Wholesale buyers could easily sell those for $20 each in a store. Once my site has a bigger following on FB, I may increase the price of those. For the holidays, I have plans for a large batch of the 2 sided glass ornaments made with painted, large 3" cabs on each side. Those will sell for $25-35 each because just the glass will be about $4 per ornament. There's a specialty catalog I think the ornaments and pendants would sell well in. I have plans to send them one of the best of each and try to make a deal for the 2020 season. I'd do it for this year, but I'd be totally screwed if they said yes, send us 500 and I suddenly need to cough up the cash to import 1000 glass cabs... lol Thanks for the feedback. I do appreciate it. This has been a really fun adventure.
