I haven't posted about my son in a while. He went 5 months without a seizure, then had another one night at work. He had another the other day. The neurologist said he can still drive, though he hasn't since this started. It appears he will have this going forward until some more understanding comes around about non-epileptic seizures. There is some very recent research that this type of seizures are caused by an overactive connection in a certain part of the brain. Thankfully, (well, not exactly thankfully people are ill...) many vets coming home from the Middle East have developed the same type of seizures and it is being pretty heavily studied right now. This means my son may someday have treatment available. He's still living alone down south and enjoying it. He's currently trying to find a way to go to the national Little People convention. This year it's close to home in San Francisco, and attending would get him in with a geneticist and neurologist who could give an opinion on both is dwarfism type and perhaps the seizures. I have been learning how to work with paint now for a while and have started a business. I make fluid acrylic paintings and jewelry items from the waste paint. I post what I make on FB at facebook.com/mountainshadowart and have a website at mountainshadowart.com that is awaiting inventory at the moment. I applied for a $500 artist award today with one of the big art supply sellers and would appreciate a vote if anyone is so inclined. If awarded, I will use the cash entirely on their site and empty out my current wish list of supplies so I can create more art and generate more income. I've found art to be very therapeutic since I have a groin injury and haven't been able to hike and rockhound in over a year... Here's the link to my submission: cont.st/ivLffFkcI?g=1

Done. Cool art! How's the kid doing on the trip bit? Is he willing to ask for a boost just like you have? I'm sure that if he asks in the right place, he might get a similar response. Sadly, I have no idea where that right place to ask might be, but I'm sure that it exists. How much lodging does he need? Transport seems to be the easy part here.

I really like the look of the fractals, very cool. Thank you. They are typically made with high-flow acrylic paints. Those suckers are expensive, so I tried some regular acrylic mixed with alcohol. The alcohol pulls out the pigments and forms the fractals on the base paint. I've been trying to figure out how to make a massive rainbow one on a 12"x12" tile. I do them on records as well. People say they look like bacteria in a petri dish. Perhaps I need to tape the science market after they are cured and covered in resin. lol

This is beautiful! Thank you. This is the lower corner of a canvas panel where the cross shape is in the center. It just finished curing. I've been trying to decide if I should varnish it or pour resin over it.

Thank you. Part of his therapy is independence. So, I pointed out the conference was in SF, sent him the website, and told him if he wants to go then he has to do all the legwork and pay for it. We we have a family friend who lives in SF. I connected them and he asked to stay. So, he has his room covered. And, in SF that would have been the biggest cost by far. She is only a cable car away, so that's a fun thing he will get to experience. He can take the Greyhound bus to get there and since he takes the bus a lot now he's fine with that and the cost is reasonable. Billy Barty and others have left large sums of money to LPA to help other people attend events and see doctors. It always seemed like one of those things they actually have issues getting people to ask about when we attended events in the past. So, it mentions in their paperwork that if this is your first year wanting to attend a national event and costs are an issue to ask about a scholarship. He'd missed the deadline, so I suggested he call and explain his situation and ask. And, if the idea of charity bothers him, then he should make it a point to pay it forward at some time in the future when he can afford it. He called yesterday and it sounds like they may waive the conference fee for him. He paid to join LPA and didn't realize it was another couple hundred bucks for the conference itself. His birthday is a few weeks before the event. I offered some cash for that and so did my mom, so if he saves a few dollars between now and then and is careful about what he spends on the trip, I think it's 100% doable. He's 25. He wants to get married. He wants to have kids. And, I think he's finally realized it might be an opportunity to be around people who won't immediately judge him and maybe he can find a woman.

I actually ran across fluid painting a few weeks ago and really love the way it looks. I was thinking about trying it but I'm not artsy and I'll probably never have time. I'm totally going to watch your fb page for pieces that I like.

If you want to work the finding love angle, more power to you. It might just convince him to get on that bus. Personally, I think he needs some straight talk about employment and medical issues and disability from folks who have no need to sugar-coat it much more than he needs snuggles, but if it takes romance-talk to get him on the road, I say "do it! "
Even if he sets off in search of a wife and comes back realizing that he will be damn lucky to be working at the age of 45. he'll be better off for the experience. There are just so many things in life that are best learned from peers.
