The hell with Easter baskets. Cut and slice up your pastor. Ohio church issues apology after pastor tells kids to cut and spit on him for Easter lessonA church in Ohio apologized this week for what it called an “inappropriate” Easter lesson about the crucifixion of Jesus after an associate pastor told students to spit on him and cut him. In footage obtained by NBC News, Jaddeus Dempsey, an associate pastor at at Impact City Church in Pataskala, could be seen urging students to cut him with a steak knife and slap him as part of their youth group session on Monday. “He was like, I don’t want you to go crazy with it,” Ai’Janae Parker, 12, recalled hearing Dempsey tell her and other students during the lesson, “but I do want you to slice it down my back and make me bleed.” Complete article here: Ohio church issues apology after pastor tells kids to cut and spit on him for Easter lesson

The most disturbing thing about that story was that someone thought that guy should be around kids.

I look forward to Cinco de Mayo when the pastor tells the kids he's a piñata.

AW Shucks, the church issued an apology so that makes every thing hunky dory. That's the American Way isn't it. Of course my mind went straight to S&M - and not Metallica's CD

I look forward to Cinco de Mayo when the pastor tells the kids he's a piñata. Or Flag Day when he invites Donald Trump to molest him. I mean HUG him.

Did not understand it. She stopped once she was in high school. I do understand why she did it today. I will be seeing that friend two weeks from today. 50th high school reunion. Should be interesting.

What can you expect? Easter has never made a lick of sense. It's just an excuse for adults to get bloody and feel holy about it.

It makes perfect sense. Jesus comes out of his tomb, and if he sees his shadow, it's six more weeks of winter!

That would be a dandy replacement for Easter as we know it. Or we could just stick to the candy and eggs version that seems to have some sort of toehold. Anything is better than a holiday that tries to tell kids that Christ died on Friday and three days later, on Sunday, was missing from the tomb. I've hated that story ever since I learned how to count. And I'm pulling my punches on all of the violence and corruption that we seem to have to praise because it led to the miracle. This story makes no sense and seems to unleash communal violence on a regular basis.
Every Easter, I have only one hope -- that someone will invite me to a Seder instead. The exodus story makes so much more sense than the story that my people have tried to replace it with.

I used to make Seder dinners. Empty seat, bitter herbs, the whole shebang. My husband was Jewish. We celebrated everything..... Christmas, Easter, Hanukkah, Passover, all of the holidays, even Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights.

Christ died on Friday and three days later, on Sunday, was missing from the tomb.
Actually it wasn't three days later ………. is was on the third day
Day of Crucifixion (1), day between (2), day of Resurrection (3)
To me celebrating Easter is like celebrating Christmas ………. we are not celebrating a day, but an event.
That pastor was wrong, wrong, wrong. That is not the way to teach children about the horrors of that type of death.

Should be interesting. Never knew a cutter personally. Had a friend who had a friend!! The only thing I remember about it was that the cutter cut herself. She didn't ask others to cut her. At least my friend never said anything about being asked to cut her. The preacher was asking others to cut him. I would think the only lesson there is to "teach" the kids know how the offenders would feel not how Jesus felt unless the preacher thought he was Jesus. I am probably misreading the whole thing but it boggles my beady little brain.
