Jason Kenney, of the United Conservative Party, has won the election. Is there any truth to the rumors that his crowds were shouting phrases such as "make Alberta great again!" and "build that pipe!"? Maybe they're taking lessons from "he who shall not be named" here in the USA. I'm hoping some of our posters from Canada will comment here.

I don't find it surprising.

"""The party would cut the carbon tax, withdraw from the federal Low Carbon Economy Leadership Fund and implement the Job Creation Tax Cut, which would drop the corporate tax rate from 12 per cent to eight per cent.
This, the UCP says, would result in slight revenue growth over four years, pulling the government's deficit up from a Stokes-projected $7.38 billion deficit in 2019/20 to an estimated $714 million surplus in 2022/23. Climate plan
Should the UCP be elected, the party promises to scrap the Alberta Climate Leadership Plan.
The United Conservatives noted in its platform that the world was "grappling with the tension" between needing a carbon-based energy industry and the "consensus that its emissions are directly contributing to climate change."
To address this, the UCP proposed a strategy that would see carbon emissions reduced at a lower rate than what has been promised by the NDP. """
At this point, Canada has 19 operating nuclear reactors. They provide 16.6% of Canada's power. Alberta has none. This might be a good opportunity for Kenney to build some reactors, get rid of a bunch of carbon producing oil/gas plants., avoid building new pipelines.

Canada is in some senses ideally suited to use nuclear power. the Uranium deposits in the Athabasca Basin are the lowest cost and highest yield Uranium operations in the Americas.

It wouldn't surprise me, though. Alberta is pretty conservative, with cowboys and rodeos. It had a conservative government for 40 years before Rachel Notley. It's almost as if it's a completely different country when compared to Quebec.
