We'll figure it out, eventually. Like Winnie said, the Americans always do the right thing, after they've tried everything else. In the meantime, the world's gotta keep turning. If this marks a period of waning American military responsibility to "oversee" the world then trump may ultimately even be the catalyst for something good. (imagine THAT?) The correction will come. I hope it will be in 2020, but i won't predict either way. I do think the reaction to Trump is spawning what is to come. France and Canada are two of the countries I've considered bailing to because of universal healthcare, but Germany is cooler now than it ever was. So all three countries and Australia are on my list of countries I'd be willing to live in. The realigning of the world's military responsibility is a good thing. Now we need to follow it up with actually downsizing our military budget outlay to match the rest of the world. In YM Your Money board terms, the US spends a ridiculous amount on the military compared to their peers. This may also explain partly why other countries are able to pony up for universal healthcare and we have chosen not to.

Confidence is often misunderstood as a response to assistance/aid. I did say "long" before Trump in my original post. I was referencing your very short term attempt at describing acceleration (Trump) in my answer. Now your changing to a longer term in this post (Bush), and trying to apply my answer to it. Ludicrous indeed. Hardly. Confidence in the U.S. around the world declined under Bush. Confidence GREW under Obama. Confidence cratered under Trump. Those are facts. Bored with your topic switching. Have a great day.

I expected some lag time after we finally lost our foreign policy disaster called Obama. The effects are starting to be noticed. No surprise on the acceleration. actually, i think that Obama was really good on American foreign policy. i say "American" because there has been a seamlessness to American foreign policy since WW2 that defies parties. i actually HATE this about Obama, to be clear. but i see it for what it is.
the biggest failure of US foreign policy since Vietnam was the Iraq War. period. Obama had nothing to do with it.
Have to agree on the Iraq war. I called it the nonsense war.

yeah, "murica!!!! I'm horrified at the decline of our stature in the world. I'm not Being the worlds policeman has gotten too expensive. So is buying that vote of confidence, from other countries, with continual aid packages, unfair free trade agreements. I agree with opt4's realigning of military spending. A few more of the latest in nuclear weapons development, can eliminate 10x the cost in conventional forces. There's a certain cost effectiveness in nuclear threat, over the old way of standing armies. www.upi.com/Defense-News/2019/04/18/Pentagon-declines-to-disclose-US-nuclear-weapons-stockpile/1001555592186/

yeah, "murica!!!! I'm horrified at the decline of our stature in the world. Outgoing French ambassador compares Trump to Louis XIV: 'Unpredictable, uninformed'
The outgoing French ambassador to the U.S. compared President Trump’s administration to King Louis XIV’s court, calling Trump a “whimsical, unpredictable, uninformed” leader. Gérard Araud, who is retiring after a 37-year career, said trying to understand the Trump White House is like trying to understand the French monarch known as the Sun King during a new interview with The Guardian released Friday. “You have an old king, a bit whimsical, unpredictable, uninformed, but he wants to be the one deciding," Araud said. Araud said Trump, like Louis XIV, “doesn’t want to appear under any influence and he wants to show it." He went on to torch Trump’s unpredictability and foreign policy interests, saying the president has isolated itself from traditional allies. What is your basis for believing that your stature in the world is based on being "the world's policeman"? It started with Tallguys "confidence in the US" thing. He never explained what it meant. Confidence in what ? The next handout ? The next one sided trade agreement ? Worlds policeman as being an ally with you for protection, was just one of those three things I listed. Let's just say I don't worry to much about the US being defined by the outgoing French ambassador.
