I haven't bought cantaloupe since the scare years ago with listeria or whatever it was. Fortunately my son manages a few in his little garden so I get them. Not many since they don't do well here but he feels sorry for me and tries his best to get a few in the ground to grow.
I've never been much on precut/prepackaged stuff anyway since figure they have to be treated extra with something to keep them "fresh" longer but that's just me. But everything is a crap shoot nowadays anyway where food supply is concerned

With the price Whole Foods charges, you would think they would do the pre-cut thing at store level.
Our local market does it in house for about $.20 a lb more than WMT charges......

I can't see paying extra to have them cut it up. But my wife doesn't like watermelon like I do so I may buy the cut half or quarter, but not pieces.

If you buy whole melons or fruits and veggies & berries too....use homemade veggie wash on them before cutting, processing or using. I use the recipe that has both vinegar & baking soda in it...it foams...and it will get most things off all these including mold spores that make berries especially, go bad so quick. All my melons get a vinegar water rinse before I cut them...that gets stuff off the rind before the knife can carry it thru. All my greens go into a sink full of vinegar/water and soak for awhile...that gets nearly everything off them too. We just can't get the stuff out of the inside that gets absorbed by mostly fruits while they are growing...especially things like apples & peaches...and celery.
