My dad was updating his will after he'd bought a house. He was sitting at the table with my grandpa who asked what he was doing. Dad told him. Grandpa's response was wills were for sick people. Dad told him he could get run over by a bus tomorrow.
And I guess in grandpa's eyes people with stage 3b lung cancer didn't qualify as sick. It was a mess after he died trying to find everything. My accounting tax professor had a phrase for it called waiting by the mailbox.
Grandma is much better. Both my dad and uncle have power of attorney. They are on her bank accounts and the deed to the house. Her will is written. I should probably check into what I can do with the stock. Not sure if you can make that transfer on death.
